The Laker stuff is sweet Mike.

    Your collection is beyond cool.

  • Great Tomlinson and Nice Woodson on Topps Chrome . I would love to have Charles Woodson on his 1998 SP Authentic though . I got him years ago on his ultra and topps rookies when he first came to the Packers.

Fun stuff this week. The Kentucky Colonels 1974-75 Media Guide is coming out amazing. Going to hang on to it for an Artis Gilmore signing now I think. Not much room on the Bruins media guide either. Might just have to add Orr and call it a day (although I'd really like it to include Wayne Cashman).

    FOOTBALL
1955 Topps AA Frank Sinkwich (eBay purchase)
    1984 Topps Doug Betters
1971 Topps Cedrick Hardman (public signing in LA)

Always fun returning from the holidays to a bunch of mail. But I also did some autograph seeking while in Boston. Went to a Celtics game and managed to add Tommy Heinsohn on my 1976 champion Celtics media guide. I just need Charlie Scott and I'll call it complete-enough. Also went to Doug Keating's card show and had Johnny Bucyk sign a couple of cards. But here is the mail I returned to:

    BASEBALL
1990 Leaf Frank Thomas HOF RC (private signing)
1991 Fleer Update Ivan Rodriguez (private signing)
1988 Fleer Update John Smoltz HOF RC (private signing)
1962 Topps Dick Radatz RC (found at the card show in Mass - Red Sox HOFer)

    BASKETBALL
    1957 Topps Lennie Rosenbluth
1977 and 78 Topps Dave Cowens
2014 Prizm Johnny O'Bryant (actually bought a few packs - hadn't for quite some time)

    FOOTBALL
1964 Philadelphia John Mackey HOF RC (purchased from Mike Navarro)
2011 Topps Chrome JJ Watt RC (signing via Waukesha Sportscards)

    HOCKEY
1959 Topps Bronco Horvath (private signing)
2006 Upper Deck Young Guns Evgeni Malkin (private signing)
2007 Upper Deck Young Guns Patrick Kane (private signing)
1961 Topps Rod Gilbert HOF RC

    ADDITIONAL
1976 Celtics Media Guide - added Tommy Heinsohn
1990 WS baseball - Jose Rijo w/ MVP inscription via private signing

Well, I've just added one of the most prized items in my collection. I don't get to talk about it much but I'm an insane golf nerd. From previous posts you may remember I'm a big fan of the US Amateur. I was able to obtain the only known surviving flag to fly over a hole at the 1977 US Amateur at Aronimink (near Philly). It was won by John Fought who beat one past (Marvin Giles) and a one future two time (Jay Sigel) champion on the way to victory.

The club asked if I was interested in selling it. Mr Fought told me if I ever found another one that he'd like me to let him know. I politely declined. So after several emails where Mr Fought was very gracious with stories from the tournament, I reached out to the USGA for the official records from the event to find out his complete route to the title. I made a donation to Alzheimers Research as my way of thanking him and he signed it with the full inscription per my request. I can not wait to get this framed.

Great thanks to Casey for help with Mahovlich and Hawerchuk at the Toronto Show! Also, I can't WAIT to send the Wayne Maki to PSA. I believe it's legit and if so, might be the only one in existence. It was the reason I thought 1971 Topps wasn't completable. Knock on wood for me!

Man, Reed has a good lookin' sig. He's my aunt's brother, but they're estranged, so never had a chance at an auto. Good stuff, Mike!
  • You got Wayne Maki , probably the rarest of the 1971s for $200 , but love the Jacques Plante 1971 that you got , that was the one khw outbid me on and he got it slabbed and sold it.

Well, some pretty darn big ones here. Hall of Fame Sports did a small private signing with sandy and...well...I just had to. It's a PSA 4 crackout. VERY happy with it. Te Gus Johnson has also been on my must-have list for quite awhile, both for HOF Rookie and 1969 Topps sets. Anyway, Away we Moe...

The Koufax is tremendous, of course! Do I detect a football theme? Are you collecting super bowl MVPs?
  • Koufax charges a lot, but he doesn't do many signings at all , he might even do less signings than George Brett . You got Gus Johnson , What 1969's do you still need ?
  • VitoCo1972VitoCo1972 Posts: 6,128 ✭✭✭

<< <i>Koufax charges a lot, but he doesn't do many signings at all , he might even do less signings than George Brett . You got Gus Johnson , What 1969's do you still need ? >>

I bought joe's Adelman and Ron Williams from Carl. Need Wilt, Rodgers, Walker and Art Harris

Yes Dan. I decided to do Super Bowl MVP rookies when I picked up the manning. The Namath, Brady (for costs) and Harvey Martin (for scarcity) will be the toughest. I'm at 57% right now
  • Fantastic on the 1969s , I just sent Rick Adelman in Raiderguy's Blue Flip Special. Adelman was one of the few I actually had to buy. I got maybe 11 that cost me any money. I even got Willis Reed, Luke Jackson , and Billy Cunningham TTM. I saw a Harvey Martin rookie about a year ago on ebay. It was like $30 or $40 , it should be easy to come by for you . Namath is probably at least $700 and Brady SP and signing fee has to be $1,200 to $1,300 . I've never seen a 2000 SP Authentic Tom Brady Signed , that would be something. The Brady signing prices are insane.

Slow month since I've been ultra busy working but a few biggies in here. Unfortunately I was part of the whole Manny Ramirez debacle at the National. I'm fine with the WS MVP ball I got but the two team balls and the rookie card are garbage...at $100/signature. Awful.

  • Great stuff, as always, Mike. Your collection sets the standard.

The Manny situation is absurd. I'm the last person to have sympathy when someone complains about a free IP situation (plenty do; not you, of course), but when it is a PAID event, especially at that price point, there's no excuse. If you hate signing, don't. But, if you sign up and take people's money, deliver what you're being paid for. Shame on both Manny and the Promoter for not making this right.

<< <i>Been awhile. I think I'm most stoked about the Brisker. I bought it on eBay with just he and Charlie Scott on it...and insanely mailed it to Dan Issel! Just came back yesterday. If you don't know the Brisker story, please do yourself the favor and read about him. >>

    Wow, that's an incredible card!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

It's been so busy lately w/ movies that I haven't really had a chance to scan cards or media guides individually. I've really added some nice media guide signatures. I'll try to post some of that stuff soon. But for those who have ever lost something, you know the pain. And the 50 Greatest Litho I had lost when it was out to a signing was the worst thing ever. 36 signatures. I still search every major auction site for it. And thanks to those that send me links hoping they may have found it. I really appreciate it. But in the interim, my asinine addition to big projects took hold of me and I started another one. This is the much larger one. I think it's 27x40. And I've now passed the halfway mark (26 signatures) and figured I should post it. Sadly, two guys have passed since my last one (Sharman and Moses Malone). But when I frame it eventually, I can add index cards of theirs to the Pistol Pete's of the world. Never give up! HA

Someone asked how I frame my stuff so I took a quick picture. This thread contains progress on most of these media guides. I have like 12 more that I'm working on in addition to the 6 I already have framed. Idea is to continue the theme with the inside frame being a team color but the matte being white and the outside frame being black. I plan to do big lithos (NBA 50 and 72 Canada) the same way w index cards cut out inside the mattes. I think I'll be doing golf flags the same way so that all sports frames have some common piece with an accent that makes them different per piece.
