What a great thread. @Boosibri and others I am trying to resist buying a Cap and Rays type... but it's hard with the wonderful coins here.
Here is a coin with North and South America. This commem is just a really poorly made coin.... I think in one of the Bower's books on commems he says just buy one and move on, hard to find a really pretty one.
Here's a NEWP from Long Beach that just crossed at grade from NGC. Interesting backstory... 1898-Mo AM Mexico Peso (1949 Restrike). PCGS MS66 (6/2). In 1949, the Mexican mint at Mexico City and the US Mint at San Francisco restruck 1898-Mo pesos for use as a "trade dollar" in China. They are distinguishable from the original 1898-Mo pesos only by the position of the "o" in the mintmark and by the number of denticles around the rim. There is some debate whether the San Francisco coins ever made it out of San Francisco, which may leave the indistinguishable Mexico City coins as the only "restrike" examples available today.
My favourite Caballito. Very scarce "triple tongue" snake variety, catalogued as 1910-C2 in "Mexican Beauty/Belleza Mexicana" by Allan Schein. This coin is featured in the mentioned book on pages 19, 34, 37, 145 and 156.

Given it's rarity, I think it belongs here. Nothing like the amazing coin that precedes this one by @Boosibri but my contribution for the day.
@Boosibri , it is Richard Long's "GOLD COINS OF THE EARLY MEXICAN REPUBLIC 1823-1873". It is an excellent book with 2 defects. Number one, it is in desperate need to be updated as it was published in 2004 (so no eBay data for example). The other problem is that it does not define beforehand the terms scarce, rare, etc. So you really need to pay attention to the text on each coin to know what he means by the rarity of the given coin. For instance in this particular coin you can see that in 50 years, there have been 9 offerings between the normal date and the overdate (likely few times the same coins) so you can see that this is really a scarce issue. But it is a great reference and readily available.
Superb Gem. At the time of the purchase, top pop by NGC and highest Iturbide graded coin (no MS67 in any of his coins). This is the neck mark variety, also known by the eagle's crown pointing to the "R" variety. Truly rare at this level of preservation.
On its way to me. This Hidalgo Grande is a two-year type and the 1955 has a mintage far less than the 1956--584,500 coins versus 3.5 million, yet there is little market differentiation (and there are so many types from this era).
Comments?
Kind regards,
George
The 1955 Hildagio's are tough in high grade .
I have one that made PCGS 65

@bidask this one is already in another dealer's hands. Congratulations on the 65!
A couple hours late. Recent Heritage auction NEWP. Love my Mexican, but also have a 'thing' for Canadian silver dollars, especially the two King George V coins. Here is my 1935, next week will show the 1936.
Here I have a nice treat for the group with the description by Richard Long for the issue. Not likely to ever see another one like this, or not in the near future anyway.
This one's probably buried back in this thread somewhere. Re-imaged last week

I way splurged (for me) and also came away with the 1936 in PCGS MS66 OGH. Really nice coin too. I like the Canadian silver dollars and especially George V coinage. (Edit: Just noticed, post 500 -- woohoo!!!)
Ok, it is not Thursday but the place is very quiet.
From the sale's catalogue: "MEXICO. Empire of Iturbide. Silver Proclamation Medal, 1823. NGC MS-62. 40 mm. Grove-17a. Mexico City. Uniformed bust (sic) right; Reverse: Legend in six lines. Nearly all white with highly reflective fields. Sharp never-dropped rims. Nicely struck and lustrous. Quite attractive."
This medal was the praclamation of the Protomedicatus to the Emperor. Very rare.
Great medal @Abuelo Thank you for sharing it. I've been waiting to add Grove's references to my shelf because I'm afraid that will result in a new collecting direction for me, as i am quite fond of these proclamation pieces.
