Thanks Dan.
sure looks like it... you have eagle eyes.. . even my avatar eagle thought so ...lolololo
Question in my mind is:
is it a real 3 or is it a 8 with a die issue?
whichever it is, it is most certainly a conversation piece.
And it probably increases its value considerably. How much??? have no idea.
I'm in an art deco mood today. These Panamanian Balboas from 1931-1947 are hard to find in nice BU. This '34, minted at San Francisco, in PCGS 66 is currently 4/0.
@coffeyce - neat error. Looks like the die engraver had the small 1 5 2 8 punches out for the reverse legend and date, as well as large 1 9 0 2 and for some reason a large 8. Maybe he/she was confused about which legend they are punching in and started to do a large 1821, but then realized the mistake and changed the 8 to the 9. But then if the mistake was caught early, why was the last 1 in the date punched? If it was caught too late, why isn't there a trace of 2 under the 0?
Here's one I ended-up winning at Aureo last night. Even though it looks like there's some environmental staining on the reverse, I'm very curious to find out what's going with the first assayer initial.
I hope this is not too abominable for the forum. I have no idea where I got this one, but it intrigues me that the final A is hanging on. Mexico 20 centavos
An Argentine coin I am keeping in my collection. When we visited 18 years ago, one of the merchants didn't have any small denomination coins - so I got a piece of bubble gum instead.
Thank you very much. I was thinking that the Illustration number ended in a "7".
My copy of 'Chopmarks by Rose' is buried with a whole lot of other books. I am supremely disorganized and I don't know if it will ever get better.
This chopped 8 reales coin just turned up last week after five years AWOL because I was looking for another coin (which is still missing). But I found 160 troy ounces of silver while I was looking too. Happy happy, joy joy.
I am thinking about buying a condo unit across the street and having it totally 100% lined with book shelves before I move in. I might have to move to get better organized.

I posted this on the 'lightside" forum, in response to a question, but I should post it here too.
This is supposedly a plate coin from 'Chopmarks by Rose'. I've owned it about 15 years or so. It is slightly concave from the chops to the obverse:
Very neat coin BillDugan, any Rose coin is a treasure, especially the plate coins from his book. This one was used to illustrate a heavily chopped coin, beat into a "bowed" or dished shape.

I picked up one coin for my collection at FUN and NYINC. It's "only" an upgrade, but it's a good one.

Upgrade? What happened to the old one?

It does match the obverse illustrated as Fig. 17 on page 7.

Out of curiosity, how'd you acquire the coin?
eBay, about 15 years ago.
Right after 9/11/2001, there seemed to be a lot of 8 realms material on eBay at reasonable prices. That situation seemed to last about one year.
