That's a pretty dramatic recut date on the 1849 Costa Rica 1 Real! I know that there are lots of die varieties for the issue, but I have no idea which ones are rare.

I brought up these pictures because they caught my interest also. Looking in Krause, it doesn't seem to be a very rare coin, but like most of my interests in coin collecting, I look for what piques my interest, like this coin. Thanks for showing it.
My other newp from the ANA show. Kingdom of Portugal 960 reis counterstamp on a Potosi 8 reales. These were issued in 1808 for circulation in the Minas Gerais Capitania, one of Brazil's main gold mining regions. According to writeup at the Banco Central do Brasil website, they were issued in conjunction with the prohibition of using gold dust for financial transactions to counter embezzlement from the mines. At 960 reis, they were inflated above the bullion value of 750-800 reis in order to generate revenue for the crown. The counterstamped 8 reales issues were superseded by the full overstrikes starting in 1810.
I know it's not Thursday.....but couldn't resist since it has been a while.
Something I enjoy with many of the examples are the various device punch styles, or lack thereof (take a look at how they made the letter H) along with the breakdown of dies. Also, notice on my 1773 how the bases of the "Pillars" do not connect with the shield....maybe I'll nickname the 1773 reverse as "The Floating Pillars variety" unless someone already published something beforehand.
Persuing choice countermarked coinage on 2 reales.

Here is an example with an unknown stamp (Mo 1/2 reale) to me. If there is anyone who may have an idea or can decipher this I would love to know.

Ah, cool. I seldom have too much to contribute to this thread, but just realized my Guatemala newp fits. Can't remember if I previously posted any of my Liteside US stuff, either (which has all no doubt been seen in my Box of 20 thread already, but here it goes again).
Sure is some beautiful pieces Lordmarcovan. A really nice assortment with a lot of beauty!

Really nice. I've had a couple nice counterstamps like these on colonial portrait reales and they are always a joy to look at. Shows how much the reales were apart of the coinage landscape in our country's early years
Thanks Oldlinecoins, there is something amazing about counter-marked coins. I love the 2 Reales and bust quarters.
Here is the 1781 Mo 1/2 reale I purchased from CRO some time back. It's not countermarked but it's nice never-the-less.

I think I may be slightly partial to the Bolivia piece. They both have a nice undertone, but maybe it's the design I'm going after??? Nice coins.

I believ it is in fact also the finest known 4R from any mint of any year
It is certainly a beautiful coin, and definitely sold cheaply at the Rudman sale (so much so that I was tempted to bid on it), but your statement is absolutely false.

Also, do you remember this one? It's been 8 years since you've tipped me off about it. I've had it in my collection ever since

BS collector, Please tell me more about that 1849 AMERICA Central piece. Looks very interesting....
It's a Real from Costa Rica they were issued in 1849 & 1850. Sorry but that's
all I know about it.
That's a great looking Real, Brett! I'm also unfamiliar with that design - is it Madonna?

Roman, I don't think it's Madonna but I could be wrong.
Yes I remember that 8R you got it from Jean Elsen.

The Costa Rican references refer to her as an indigenous woman. KM, just a woman. Anyway, t's not Ms. Ciccone.
