Beautiful Costa Rican indeed. Good move cracking it out for the upgrade too. I think for a time ANACS tried so hard to get respect that they actually under graded many coins, you have to see them in hand though, as there are many stinkers as well, and yes - plenty are on the money.
<< <i>Nice! That is one sweet die crack on the 1813! >>
Thanks, Dan. It's the 3rd die crack in that location I've seen so far on different years (although all of them were on a Fernando VII draped coins). That 1813 is from MCC. I was worried about obverse hairlines, but very few on this example.
Speaking of die cracks, this is an interesting example. See how the obverse die crack through Carolus defines a boundary between how the luster reflects? It's similar but different to your 1813, where the portion to the left of the die crack is more softly struck (obverse and reverse) than the portion to the right.
Thanks, Z. This year is actually a strong possibility, unless I decide to go spear fishing somewhere south. What would help if there was a Big Data / Data Governance / Marketing Analytics conference in NYC at the same time
Here are a few raw pieces I picked-up in the recently closed auctions across the pond. I'm hoping the first one turns out to be the over-assayer variety for that year and the bottom one is MS without too many hairlines. Hard to tell from the image, since the light was bounced off the surface, but the description was S/C (vs S/C- that's often used by Herrero to identify low-grade MS).

<< <i>Oh my. Many of these coins have rays, my weakest spot!
Some are gold. That's bad for me too!
I will post my one Mexican Gold coin...hopefully it's not too close on the tails of my last post of this coin!
No rays on this coin, but I think the Aztec Calendar is mighty fine! >>
Gotta love those 20 peso's

So at todays prices, what might I expect to pay for one of these in a PCGS holder?

Here's a favorite of mine. Lady Liberty is graceful and beautiful on these Argentinian coins.
And no wonder, it was done by the very talented French sculptor and medal engraver Eugene Andre Oudine.

There were some new additions to Mexico 8 Reales sets by other registry participants, but I don't think they post on the forums all that much.
Perhaps OriginalDan have some eye-candy for us ???
