Thanks Roman. I got blown out of the water last night during Session 1 of the Heritage World auction on the 1841 Bolivia 8 Escudo. I bowed out at 8K. It sold for 13K (plus juice). During Millenia, it sold for 9K plus juice. Moon money, if you ask me but I saved myself a bundle for next time
The one bid I had in for the Session 1 ended-up being $200 short. Was gunning strong (or at least I thought it strong) for that 1826 Zacatecas 8R I was wondering if you were bidding on that coin, for it surely has "Roman-appeal". For a raw coin, it went for fairly strong money.
I got this raw at a Santa Clara CA show not too long ago. I liked the look of it. This is my first forum photo. I'm still developing my picture taking skills. And I only have a point and shoot camera for now.
Sorry about the blank post. My first post on this forum. This thread of "Thursday North/South American Coins" really caught my eye. Now I just need to figure out how to post images so I can participate
Hey Roman, what can I say. Great minds think alike. Here's another one in NGC MS62. If I look real hard, while standing on my head with one eye closed, I can see on the obverse at 11 o'clock, what looks like a misplaced 0. What do you all think? Or am I cracked just like the die?
Hmm, there's definitely something there. I don't think it's a 0 since the letter style doesn't fit. Also, it appears to be raised - something on the die itself.
<< <i>They look really nice, Roman. I'm trying to see the different die pairs that you mention, but I'm a NEWB to these things. Help a brother out.
rwyarmch, all I can say is WOW! Where do you find these things? >>
Bill, you can see small differences in both coins, especially when you look at the location of legend next to the main elements. For example, look at the last A in GRATIA in relationship to the portrait, or the mintmark in relationship to the left pillar.

What do you think this is? Not a clash (doesn't look like anything on the other side) I think a strike thru. Maybe a pop can top got stuck in the die
I really like the die clashes on this NGC MS62 example.
Here are a couple of 1808 raw AU pieces that will be going to the slab factory next. Looks to be 2 different die pairs, as well.
