If my memory serves me correctly, these were minted using the same equipment (and edging dies) as the previous colonial portraits - hence the same edge design (and opposing design overlaps).

The more I see of some of the South American coins the more I appreciate the classic designs and art work. If I can ever get the grand kids' Canada registry sets finished I'm going to start collecting some of them- particularly Cuba, Peru and Chile.

I don't know. The coin was in an album as I understand it. Raymond Wayte albums particularly deliver pretty much this same pattern of color over the years.
