Another of my favorites. This, from the John Jay Pittman Collection (Heritage called it AU/UNC). It is fully UNC in my opinion (with some weakness of strike on the obverse).
1773 8 Reales (original blazing UNC). They don't come much better than this (1st year of Portrait).
1791 Bolivia 8 Reales (very, very tough in the higher grades). Could go 58 or 61, depending on the grader and his mood that day. Struck on larger flans (1789-1792), hence the inherent reverse weakness.
<< <i>Gary, where have you been hiding these beauties!
It's very unusual to see a fully struck Potosi 8 Reales due to their strike weakness. Fantastic examples >>
Thanks Roman. I didn't want to start posting when I finally decided to stop lurking behind the shadows because; 1) I was too new here and didn't want to make a huge splash early on and 2) my photography skills were poor at best. This is just a fraction of my Potosi/Bolivia. I've been aggressive with this country since 2004 so I be 'showing off' for Bolivia bragging rights as soon as I retrieve the major portion of my collection (out on collateralized loan) in the ensuing months. In the meantime, there is still a bit more in my arsenal. BTW, I always love to see your stuff! Keep them coming!
1839 Bolivia 1/2 Scudo (from the Caballero de las Yndias auction, 8 April 2009, lot #28, Barcelona ((ex. Schulman sale 1963 lot #70)) ). Muchas gracias Senor Lustig!
My newp from the Bowers (Ponterio) Baltimore World auction and one of my two 1985 Mexico 1 Onza end roll toners (toning is real as I own the original roll).
1767 Bolivia (Potosi PTS) 2 Reales, nice VF and a very tough coin in this grade!
1985 Mexico 1 Onza (I'll let the pictures speak for themselves). Color is accurate but my editing of the picture is terrible.
Well... it's gotta be Thursday somewhere, right? I really like the provisional coins from Peru. This is the Heritage auction description: Provisional Government 8 Reales 1823JP, KM136, XF40 NGC, problem free and about as high grade as is available for this type.
Absolutely stunning Bill! If I wasn't so focused on Bolivia (although, I will eventually branch out to include the 1836-39 Bolivian-Peruvian Confederation pieces), I would be spending my shekels on this stuff as well.
1808 Bolivia (PTS) 8 Reales Proclamation from Potosi (El Cerro Rico, the mountain of Silver) for the new King, Ferdinand VII, NGC AU58, totally original!

Finally, as promised (I didn't want you guys to think that I was all talk and no show) BOLIVIA!!!
1730 Bolivia 8 Reales Cob (as struck)

1774 2 Reales Bolivia (AU)
1807 1/4 Reale (Quartillo) CH UNC (probably finest known of less than 10 or so extant pieces)

Just HAD to have one so you could play on the thread too- didn't you John?
The image isn't very good, copied from the seller's Ebay posting. But I really
do like the coin design; may look for a better one.
And I don't even HAVE it yet; just sent an offer of $32.00 that I think
will be accepted.
If not-well at least I got to play......
