Wow, tough crowd tonight ... must be whiskey night!
Scarsdale used the wrong "there" about 15 posts into the thread after the OP had already been dressed down for it. Guess I won't be listening to any coin advice there
OP said he saw the coin on "their" website, which also states:

(Oh look, they left off a period after the "S" used to abbreviate States, "there" goes "their" credibility too!)
If the OP asked for a discount, I would believe the burden would be on Miller's Mint to say, "We'll discount it if you pay with a check or money order."

It'd be up to Miller to prove in court that he's not worthy of the worst dealer award. There's no libel here. There are several dealers who could receive such an award and I agree with the poster that it appears that Miller is a contender for such an award.

Re: the Miller's, I recently called and believe I got "Hal" on the line. They had listed a key date commem in G4 (yep: Good 4) in their newps "Sampler." Turns out, it was a typo, supposed to be 64, not G4 and we had quite a hoot laughing at my silly quest for a Cinci in G4. He said I would be an old man still looking to find one (I'm already old at age 45), and if he had really had a G4, the price would have been a "million dollars!" Boy, we had another great laugh after that comment as well.

When selling to dealers (and collectors), I run into the $10-$25 counteroffers all the time (1-2% discount). I think the dealers almost always try this tact because they are used to sellers caving in and giving it to them. Ironic though when a dealer who plays this game pokes fun at the collector who tries the same thing. There are also times when selling that you are trying to unload something while trying to make something on it ($10). It's at that point when it can get "personal" when you get chiseled back that $10 or another $25 for a net loss.
<< <i>There is no excuse for treating a customer like that. If you dont like the offer, the dealer should polietly say no thank you, and decline. No need to talk crap. >>
I agree. Also, if you accept credit cards you have to have those costs built into your margins. And, it would be the dealers responsibility to mention in any negotiations the terms, ie: cash vs credit.
The OP may have gone a bit overboard with his title, but he was treated poorly and I appreciate him letting me know his experience. There are lessons to be learned for both collectors and dealers in this thread.

I started the above thread about 2 years ago describing my experience with a coin dealer. I did not "out" the dealer at that time. I'll let you guess and let's assume that the name of the person I was speaking to is "Hal".
I am not passing judgment on the OP's "case" as there (correct use of there) are issues on both sides. But this begins to look like a pattern of behavior to me that is not good for the dealer IMO. For one, I know for a fact that this dealer has lost any and all business from me and apparently from this thread, a few more.
I am not in the camp of: the customer is always right, because there are unreasonable customers. But to not address and/or ridicule reasonable buyer concerns and questions is uncalled for and not good for business IMO.

Edit: The coin I was trying to purchase was $1,100.
I dont see the problem with there comments hear, the original OP's. I think you no what Im talking about. I think your all being really mean to the OP. You should step back and look at this problem from there eyes. Its the OPs opinion on the matter, cut him some slack. I mean, why does everything have to bee an attack hear? Cant you'll just comment on his situation instead of you're feelings' if he is write or wrong? My opinion is that their should have ben a meeting of the mind's on the price of the coin, than they could discuss method of payment.

OK, So I just got off the phone with Joan from Millers Mint...
Im not even gonna go in to it.... but let's just say that there is a competely different tale told to me about what really happened.....
Long story short, The OP did not get the deal he wanted, and Harry feels that the coin is a very strong piece and in next greysheet will be up higher...
If the OP had bought it, he really would have gotten a great deal...(that is my 2c)
I'm not posting now blasting the OP, I understand he just did not get the deal he wanted and is upset/angrey , but I also think its highly unfair using OUR forum boards here to take a shot at a dealer who has a longterm stella rep in this business...
I also suggested to Joan to take a look at the post, however a lot of dealers just dont want to bother with all the nonsence that goes on here..
wonder why?
PS: they don't put customers on speakerphone at the store!

I agree with much of what was said above. But just because the coin dealer has a stellar rep in the coin business doesn't mean mistakes can't be made on their part. I'm not saying Miller's Mint was wrong in this case, but I'm saying they shouldn't automatically be right just because they have had a stellar rep in the coin business in the past.
The part about using our forum to take unfair shots at other people in the coin business I am in absolute agreeance with you on. Not saying that happened in this case, but in many of the topics on this board flame wars are rife.

The part about using our forum to take unfair shots at other people in the coin business I am in absolute agreeance with you on. Not saying that happened in this case, but in many of the topics on this board flame wars are rife.
I tend to agree with this statement. I think that it is fair to post a thread to warn the collecting public about an unscrupulous or overtly fraudulent dealer. I generally do not think it is appropriate to bag a dealer who does not have the ability to defend himself here, especially on a customer relations-related matter.
Customer service is a tricky thing, and in my experience, if there is an isolated problem, often the customer is partly to blame. If there is a repeated or systemic problem, this is another matter.

would it be possible to enter into evidence a picture of said coin that lead to the original negotiations ( or lack of )... maybe this coin has a curse on it and received it's rim bump during a previous negotiation of it's sale, maybe it was Custer's lucky pocket piece at little bighorn... In any event I would like to see " The Coin " ...
If you can't swim you better stay in the boat.......
Coin looks to me like it just might grade as the rim bump is light (per the photo). Looks AU too.
Edited to add: Looks like the PCGS price guide shows this one at about $550.00 in XF40 and $875. in AU55. Nice, original skin. I would think anything around $500. is a good deal on this CC Trade dollar.
Well you can always do what we do and that is when a person asks for your best price you immediately ask how they will be paying. At shows and for bullion it is automatically assumed cash or check
Yeah, the coin is probably an AU after looking at the pics, but that rim bump is GINORMOUS in my opinion. I don't think it would ever grade at PCGS or NGC.
