Sweet Brown Sugar is better known by his more popular ring name Koko B. Ware. His real name is James Ware. Another HOF rookie card from the 82 and 83 Wrestling All Star sets. This one was signed in May at Oneida Casino in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A hard to find form of his signature, as he usually signs Koko B. Ware. Sweet Brown Sugar was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.

Always excited to add a Notre Dame legend and future NFL HOF'er to the mix. I've already got a couple autographed Bettis rookie cards, but there's always room for another. Not often that I post additions of guys I've played pickup basketball with, but I dropped in a few on The Bus during my days at Notre Dame.

Big Ben has been a two time Super Bowl winning QB and has had a great start to his on field career. Off the field has been another story, but my collection doesn't have unnecessary conduct standards like some of the halls of fame.

This guy has been a finalist the past couple of years for the Pro Football Hall of Fame but hasn't gotten in yet. Didn't just play, but was a good contributor for 5 Super Bowl winning teams. Gets a bad rap sometimes for his actions, but he's alright in my book. When I was on the board of the local Salvation Army, Charles did a fundraiser for us and was a good guy. This card was signed 3 days ago in Vegas.

This guy had to swallow one of the most bitter pills in Presidential election history. So close to being the leader of the free world, but yet, so far away, and will probably be remembered 200 years from now as only a footnote. Served two terms as Vice President during the Clinton Presidency.

A very nice addition that I picked up from the WrestlingCardKing. Dubbed "The World's Most Dangerous Man", Ken Shamrock is a UFC Hall of Famer. Outstanding condition, 1995 Japanese BBM Wrestling rookie card. It's tough to get a non manufactured autograph card graded a PSA 10 for the card grade due to the number of different things that can happen to a card in the course of getting it signed. Tremendous card of this MMA beast.

It's been a nice weekend for pickups. Another guy that's not a HOF'er, but was one of the most highly collected players in the 80's during my formative years of collecting. A popular Yankee, and a good, solid ballplayer. Tremendous minor league card of "Donnie Baseball". I picked up the whole team set, with 18 cards signed, in order to get this one.

1981 Nashville Sounds Team Issue Don Mattingly

Nice pickups Mikey! I like the Haley, he should be in the hall I think. Guy was a major force on 5 Super Bowl teams.

That Skowron is an awesome card bud. I met him a few times & he's got some great stories and is a total gentleman.

You never really see that Mattingly card signed either so that was a good pickup. Do you now have every Mattingly signed RC now?
I think Donnie Baseball was one of the best overall players I've ever seen & if it wasn't for his busted back, he def would be in Cooperstown.

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the Navarro household & the message board family!

  • Very Nice card. I bought authenticated OMLB for about $22. Mattingly is still a hero for any New york Gen Y-er. Donnie Baseball's stuff has come down way to low for a Great Yankee and one of 1980's greatest players. Donnie Baseball is right up there with Mike Schmidt, George Brett, and Nolan Ryan as one of my favorites.

Thanks guys, just got home from the Rangers game. Had a day off from work today and got to spend the day and night with my wife and kiddos. Rangers blasted Baltimore, had steaks at home and cheese fries at the game, and got to see a world class fireworks show. Pretty dang good night.

I posted a thread last week when I thought this was just a Ty Cobb signed photo. I received it today, and I believe it's a severely trimmed 1910 M113 Ty Cobb. This is as close as I'm ever going to come to having a Ty Cobb signed 'rookie", so it's going to fill the hole in my signed rookie card collection. Cobb signed early cards are outrageously expensive. A T206 red portrait autographed Cobb sold for $27,600 last Oct/Nov, and a T202 signed Cobb sold for over $17,000 with juice in January, 2009. I can't afford that, and those aren't even rookies either. Even if I could afford that, I don't know if I could let go of that type of coin for a trading card, therefore, this one will do.

Cobb was my favorite old school player when I was younger, as his Tigers used to have spring training for a few years down here in my hometown of Waxahachie, TX, and I learned about that as one of my earliest "research projects" , as an elementary school kid, involved the history of my hometown. I used to be an avid reader and always enjoyed reading books and pieces about Cobb.

This picture is the perfect epitome of Cobb and his traits. Very intense stare, precision grip on the bat, and intense focus. I also believe this image was shot by renowned photographer Charles Conlon. Has a nice, vintage fountain pen signature as well. The fountain pen leads me to hope that it was signed during his playing days, but really no way to know that for sure. Full letter of authentication from James Spence Authentication. Great piece of the Georgia Peach. This is now my favorite item in my collection.

Another member of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players list. Got this signed at a recent private signing here in Texas. Olajuwon has earleir Star Co. issues, but this one is typically considered his mainstream "rookie". I'll get a Star one too before it's done, just couldn't find a reasonably priced one to send to the signing.

This next addition kind of has a personal touch to me. Paul Richards was born in my hometown of Waxahachie, TX and spent his life here as well when he wasn't traveling for baseball. When I was growing up and playing in the 70's and 80's, it was not unusual to see him out at the local fields watching us. During American Legion ball and freshman ball of high school, he used to come out and hang out at the park every day. Unfortunately, us kids didn't take advantage of the advice and stories that he was willing to offer. We were always in too much of a hurry to go hang out with our girlfriends or thought we knew it all already. I'd love to go back in time now and have the opportunity to hear his stories in depth of his days in baseball as a player, manager, and executive. Paul died after my freshman year of high school.

Our local ballpark has been named after him for as long as I remember. It's a great high school facility better than many small college fields I've seen, and was also the host of the Detroit Tigers and Ty Cobb back in the early 1900's when it was known as Jungle Park. I also eat quite frequently at a local restaurant that is in the house he was born in. (great food by the way, it's called Catfish Plantation, try it out if you are ever down this way)

While this card is not in the greatest of condition, it's one that I'm happy to add to my collection as he was a good guy and a friend of my community.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty psyched about the Tysons. I used to love to watch all few minutes of his fights, LOL. He was no nonsense back then, just come in in black trunks, and whip some backside. Those opponents were so intimidated by him that they had lost before they even entered the ring. Kinda wish that Buster had never taken him to task that night overseas and he might have ended up differently in the long run. Who knows? For a period of time though, he was most certainly, "The Baddest Man on the Planet", in the ring.

I think all of the Tyson's turned out awesome considering he is known to literally just scribble his name. The funny part about the whole experience is that everyone in line thought I was nuts spending $600 to get 5 postage cent sized cards signed. I had one person ask me if I was sure thats what I wanted to spend my money on to get signed. Little do they know that little card would probably fetch at least 5-7x what there 11x14 would sell for on eBay.

Fun pickup of "T'he Joker". This card was in the 4th set of Batman cards (I believe) released during the rookie season of 1966. Cesar passed away in the early 90's, so it's not the easiest thing to find these autographed. I wasn't born until a few years after the shows release, but I used to love watching reruns of "Batman" as a child. "Batman", "Leave it to Beaver", "The Munsters", all great shows.
