I agree also - it was a tough loss, but only one game. No need to freak out.
Tito managed the game very poorly last night, however. Sending Beckett out there in the 5th inning when he clearly had nothing was a bad move, and I'm not crazy about keeping Drew on the bench (even against the lefty Kazmir) when Ellsbury is ice cold. And when Timlin came in, I knew the game was lost. He is like the Red Sox human white flag.
<< <i>The time to pick apart your team is AFTER a series loss. NOT AFTER one loss within a series. Be thankful this is a best of seven ..... >>
Grady Francoma has been mismanaging pitchers for quite some time...Beckett ESPECIALLY (see Angels game #3). RSN picks a team apart during a game, even if winning by seven with two outs in the ninth...
I figured It'd be best to delete my comment for the goodness of this thread. It's not a Sox bashing thread, but a thread for Sox fans to come together and talk about their team. My bad if I offended anyone with my comments, because this wasn't the place to make them. Sorry guys
Im getting sick and tired of everyone complaining about us "waving our success" in everyones faces! Gimme a break! We are ecstatic about breaking a freakin 80 year old curse and finally getting the monkey off our back, Yankee fans for YEARS upon YEARS have been blasting us with their never ending run of World Series wins, playoff appearances ect.. ect.. We have been doing it for what? the past few years? Ofcourse we were sick of it when Yankee fans were doing it! We had EVERY REASON TO HATE IT! We were not champions and we certainly were never "Lovable losers" Yankee fans loved laughing at us, and guess what? We are laughing now and enjoying our "Run of fun" NOT ONE SOX FAN will ever say we have any compassion for the Yankees and dont expect any from them either.
It is what it is- always has been and always will be. It is in our blood just as much as it is in Yankee fans blood. If ya dont want to hear it then get the hell out of any Red Sox related thread.

Paul, EVERYONE is NOT complaining about this. ENJOY YOUR PLAYOFFS
I was trying to get you guys to fired up a bit more in a fashion wear you EXPECT to win. My bad. If you guys want to rip on every little happening in a game you lose then GO FOR IT.
The Rays are a tough club, no doubt about it. They had our number tonight, we simply couldn't get the clutch hits from the big bats to make it a game. Where has Ortiz, Varitek and Drew gone? Simply cannot leave men in scoring position and continue to pop out or ground out. The oppostion obviously had no problem getting homers and hits...gotta be the pitching.
There will always be those that like to jump into the thread and critique posts where they think they can get a rise out of RSN. Of course their teams are long gone out of the playoffs and they have a hard time dealing with what we write and the fact that the Yankees and Mets really sucked this year. We have at least made it to the Division Playoffs. Personally I am sick of these people that claim to be "sports", when in fact they are nothing but cheap shot artists who like to stir the muck. The Red Sox have won two WS in the past 4 years and still have a shot at number three. Their teams OTOH have accomplished squat. If you sour grapes guys don't like what we write here in the "The Offical 208 RED SOX Championship run thread!!" then I suggest you just shut the hell up and be men and stay the hell out of the thread.
Ortiz (ugh), Varitek (just terrible) and Ellsbury (wow, horrendous) are hitting a combined .000 in the series through 3 games. That is the reason we're down 2-1. Tito BETTER have Crisp and Lowrie in the lineup tomorrow. I honestly wish they could stomach moving Ortiz to 6th and moving Bay to 3rd but they won't out of respect (and the match-up problems of an all right handed 2-3-4 it would create). I swear, I would rather have Cash in the game than Varitek at this point. He is done D-O-N-E. Look, I loved the guy for years, but let's face facts.
My guess is Wake shuts us down tomorrow because we wasted all of our offense tonight. As a fan of some of the worst franchises in sports history (Rays, Braves, Bucs) I have a hard time ever being 100% confident in my team......right now is one of those times. Yeah, we're up 2-1 but what does that mean with a possible 4 games ahead?.....squat.
Hopefully this series continues to be as exciting as it has been and the best team wins.

Agreed on all points.....except one.
Yes, put Coco in for Ellsbury. Yes, Cash would be better then Varitek right now.
But I would add that I'd rather have Casey DHing instead of Papi. I think Papi is hurting and will continue to make outs. Nothing to punish Papi, but I think a healthy Casey would be better then a hurt Papi.
I hate to pile on but . . . okay, I don't really hate it, but I regret that it's come to this: Papi stinks. He doesn't deserve to be in the lineup right now, let alone hit 3rd. He's 4-27 in the postseason (that's .148) and even though he's also walked 7 times, he's still only scored twice and only has 1 RBI.
I'd like to see Casey come in to play 1B and move Kotsay to DH. I'd like to see Youkilis hit 3rd, Bay hit 4th, and Drew hit 5th or some combination of those three hitters in those slots.
I'd also like to see Mike Timlin with his butt glued to a bench - preferably a bench in Boston Common. Beckett can keep him company.
unfortunately, Grady Francoma stuck with Bellhorn in 2004 and it paid off huge...so expect him to stick with "more established talent" like Ortiz, Varitek, Beckett, et al until he loses four or five straight postseason series (or his job)
<< <i>unfortunately, Grady Francoma stuck with Bellhorn in 2004 and it paid off huge...so expect him to stick with "more established talent" like Ortiz, Varitek, Beckett, et al until he loses four or five straight postseason series (or his job) >>
Hey, I disagree with a lot of what Tito's done this postseason too, but the guy won a championship 11 months ago. Calm down on the firing. If we chatted in December of 2003 and I told you you'd have seen 2 championships by October of 2008, you would have defecated in your pants. That said, everything I mentioned above still stands. This team needs a kick in the butt.
We've been in worse spots before and came back. We win today and it's 2-2. Elsbury needs to sit. I've got a feeling that Papi will break out soon. Tek, as much as I hate to say this is DONE.
Drew in the #1 spot, Ellsbury is out. Crisp in the lineup along with Cash (of course, since Wakefield is pitching). Forecast is 10-15 MPH winds...how will the knuckleball fare in that environment?
Winpitcher and I did not PM one another YOU PM'd Me!

I like the lineup tonight. Wakefield has always pitched well against TB, so hopefully that continues. I think we'll know right away if he's got anything tonight.
Listen, and listen good. We really don't feel like hearing your crap on this board. If you want to continue it, then go ahead and open your PM's and talk about it.

<< <i>Drew in the #1 spot, Ellsbury is out. Crisp in the lineup along with Cash (of course, since Wakefield is pitching). Forecast is 10-15 MPH winds...how will the knuckleball fare in that environment? >>
Hopefully the Rays bats will be cooled off after their power surge the past few games. Im nervous as hell with Wakefield out there to be totally honest- #1 we rarely give him run support and #2 he is either on or REALLY OFF. If he doesnt have movement like a disco light on his pitches we need to get him out of there as soon as it be needed, obviously Im rooting for him but its 50/50 as far as Im concerned wether he gets some strong innings in tonight.
Im glad the lineup is being shaken up- Ellsbury on the bench could be huge if we need a pinch runner for a late inning run.
Well worse case scenario we are down 3-1 as we have been before, but Im thinking its not a good idea to play with fire yet again!
Steve, as someone who has absolutely no qualms with you, can I respectfully ask that if you have a strife with a fellow board member that you please move it into another thread or a PM forum? I enjoy reading posts from both of you, but I read this thread as a Red Sox fan to converse with other fans, not to go through personal malarkey like in the Discussion threads. Please don't take offense at this request, I just want to read about the Red Sox when I open this thread.
From today's USA Today story on Wakefield. Great pitch to watch but brutal viewing when the guy is off and tossing cheese that Teddy Ballgame's frozen head could hit for .400. Hopefully he'll pull it together -
"Wakefield will stand on the mound Tuesday night, and gaze earnestly at the poor guy the Red Sox have roped into catching him — Kevin Cash, by name — and deliver one of the most temperamental, unruly, volatile creatures ever put on the planet. Baseball's answer to the Dow Jones average.
Nobody knows what will happen next. This includes the man throwing it.
"There have been times when I've come out of the bullpen thinking I was going to throw a no-hitter," Wakefield said. "And I've lasted two or three innings.
"There's no set barometer that I look at to dictate whether I'm going to have a good one or not."
No, the best indication is if the catcher keeps having to turn and go off in a pursuit of an errant missile headed for the backstop, or if line drives keep banging off the wall in centerfield. Nothing looks more hittable than a fat knuckleball, except for maybe a pinata.
"My margin of error," Wakefield said, "is very small."
