Guys, last year's Yankee thread never got anything near the number of posts the Red Sox thread got. We know how much you guys like to cuddle over there .
What do Yankee fans think of David Wells coming back to the Bronx to pitch ? According to Wells, he thinks Torre wanted him out of town because of the way he lived his life. Now that Torre is gone, David and Hank could possibly sit down and have a nice lunch together. You know, five cheeseburgers, onion rings, cheese fries, chocolate malts, fudge brownie sundays, and a six pack. A marriage made in heaven, yes ?

In his day Wells was excellent, but when he cam out of game 5 in the World Series because of back spasms I had quite enough of him not taking care of himself.
I highly doubt Wells keeps himself in any kind of shape since retirement. He didnt when he played so why would he now? LOL Wells was always one of my favorite Yankees pitchers. I dont care how he lived his life...he had a real good arm and pitched well in big games.
I will have no problem if I never see Igawa pitch for the Yanks ever again. A bust and waste of money. Guess only the Japanese guys cant hit him well.
I dont know how long this will last but Rasner is looking like a vet out there. He has pitched ahead in the count his last start and now throughout this game against the Tigers. I like what I see!!!
<< <i> Meet the Mets, greet the Mets, but Yanks just can't beat the Mets. >>
We're a sorry looking team right now >>
I agree, very sorry. When I look at these guys, I see a bunch of millionaires just going thru the motions, no fire at all, no spark, no energy, no caring about the playoffs. I really feel the chemistry is missing. Hope they wake up before it's too late.
I can't imagine the heat going on behind the scenes. It does seem like the players are just "showing up", no spark, no nada. Time maybe to sit down some of the prima donnas and bring up some AAA guys. At some point HS is gonna erupt and heads will roll...first to roll will be your GM. 6.5 back, have they already thrown in the towel???
Rough time to be a Yankee's fan...OTOH, great time to be a Red Sox fan.
Very disappointing baseball right now. Then again, still missing 2 important pieces of the daily lineup (one of those should be fixed today) Pitching has been hit and miss - who'da thunk that Moose would be the rock right now.
Hank may just let Cashman and Girardi go if this keeps up, sheesh
Not so good times in the Bronx right now, but then again only 6.5 back and the season is only a little over a quarter in, we've done it before we can do it again
I'm wondering if that bench clearing last night was exactly the medicine the Yankees needed. Maybe now they'll wake up from this sleep walking that they're almost all guilty of. They needed to get pissed off. Jeter isn't seriously hurt, and Arod hit a home run in his first game back. So it isn't all bad news.
A most excellent win tonight. Rasner throws a gem, Arod hits another home run (really two), and the Yanks were hitting with men on all night. And maybe most significant of all...
A Sweet 9th inning win tonight! Kennedy pitches a great game, the Joba-less bullpen shuts'em down, Girardi gets thrown out and fires up the team, and some 9th inning heroics by Cano. The worm has turned. You can just feel it.
Do yankee fans really believe Joba can survive in the bigs with just 2 pitches ? I agree that they are two very good pitches, but it's still only two pitches. He's going to need a third pitch to survive as a starter. We'll wait and see, and I could be wrong, but I guess he's better then Igawa, that's for sure.

He has four pitches, not two. You haven't seen the other two because he has been relieving only and they wanted to keep it simple. Where do you Red Sox fans get your info on the Yankees?

Wow. Well, then I agree with Hank. He should have started the season in the rotation.
<< <i>A great comeback victory! The Yanks are smoking! >>
Uh, more like a Triple A team gave the Yankees the game today. Plus, how many inches did the home plate umpire give MO in the 9th ? Probably 2 or 3 inches easily. Great fielding by Putz and Ichiro in the 8th. Anyway, congrats on finally making it to .500

The ump punched out Giambi too in the 8th with an obvious outside pitch so at least he was consistent. 5 straight for the Yanks!

Heck, Bruce Sutter made a nice living on just one pitch too. Mariano isn't the only closer who has done well with just one pitch.
But you need more then 2 pitches to survive as a starter. Clemens, Schilling, and Josh Beckett had to develop a splitter in order to get better. Joba does not have an unhittable fastball or curveball. He will need to develop a third pitch. However, his two pitches are much better then Igawa's, Mussina's, Pettite's, or Hughes or Kennedy's, so basically he is better off as a starter, because the Yankees have the third worst starting rotation in the American league.
Wow, with all that offense the King George minions couldn't pull off the win. Yankee's remain in last place and looks like they may stay there for a while.
I'll bet Girardi is popping Aleve big time. Question is, how long before they dump him? Sure is gonna be embarrassing if the Yankee's remain in last place when the AS game rolls around.
wow, after all this still a whopping 6 games out of first!!, better abandon ship, women and children first, ohh the humanity
NOT
lets see what happens around the all star break, if the pitching is still as lackluster as it is now, look for Hank to do what the yankees always do, spend the cash and pick up a hired gun (or two) for the stretch run.
Thats the best thing about the Steinbrenners, they are not cheap!
Its also the reason they play 162, its a LONG season
however all that being said, last night was horrible
Spending money with the thought that it buys performance is the KEY problem (IMO) with the Yankee's organization. To yet spend more money for some "hired gun" makes no sense...the "hired gun" is only gonna pitch once every 5 days. Forget Joba and Mariano...clearly they have their bad days as well, and are not always a "given". Geez, you guys couldh've gotten Julian Tavarez before the Brewers snapped him up!!
Do you think Damon's performance justifies his $13m salary? I believe that number is correct. So, there are approximately 24 weeks in the season, therefore Damon is making almost $550k per week. You think his performance warrants such a mind-numbing salary? GOOGLE major league salaries...the Yankee's ain't gettin' their bang for the buck.
Throwing more money at the "situation" isn't gonna do anything. More should have been done prior to opening day. Could be the horse has left the barn. I'll honestly be surprised if you guys make the playoffs, there just appears to me to be a lack of cohesion with the players. The pitching is iffy and I'll bet everyone over there is on pins and needles. Sometimes (as hard as it might be), checkout the dugout shots of the Red Sox...see any doom and gloom?? That was Jeter caught sleeping at second wasn't it? Thus my point that the Yankee's players are not focused like they should be.
What a monster embarrassment it's gonna be if your team doesn't snap out of its last place position by early July.
With some clever manuevering, perhaps your GM could pick up Mike Timlin (set up man extraordinaire) for a cheap A-ball bench player. Timlin blew the game for the Red Sox last night and now owns a sterling 2-3 record...this for $3m per season, or using the analgy above, Timlin gets $125,000 per week. Beyond DISGUSTING.

Nice try trying to get rid of Timlin, you guys just keep him and we'll keep lighting him up!
Damon was a bad sign from the start, he couldn't even keep his spot in the outfield last year, its another Red Sox attempt to destroy our evil empire by sending us their overused, discarded former heroes. I mean we had Minky too didn't we?
Comments
Not a shutout at the King George ballfield last night. I'll bet the fans were thrilled again by the inept pinstripers.
BTW, how's that Damon thing going? Oh, never mind, he was 0-4 last night.
Don't look now but Mike "I'm over the hill" Mussina goes this PM. What the heck...I hope he wins, but not likely.
4.5 back and sinking...only a nice comeback by the Tigers kept it from being 5.5
<< <i>Cliff Lee is a beast!! Wonder how long he can keep it up? >>

<< <i>Did Wilson Benemit work himself into a near future trade after that little league defense tonight? >>
And swinging at an 3 and 0 pitch with 2 out and a man on when he's batting low .200's.
Its good to come back and see a little activity here, for awhile it felt like my own personal yankees blog
