Actually that sounds pretty dam bad. Frankly if we lose Joba our chances are greatly diminished.

Lets face the music. The Yankees can not stand to lose Joba Chamberlain for any length of time. This combined with all of our other starting pitchers who are KO'd spells doom. I am not one to be down and out and I HAVE NOT been for YEARS ... BUT ... IT IS WHAT IT IS they say. IF this is the year the Yanks are bit with this kind of luck and we miss out on the playoffs for the first time since 1993 if you think about it ..... then fine image . These types of things are part of the game. I am not giving up hope BUT the Yankees can not stand to lose a guy who quickly was becoming a VERY good starter combined with the fact that aside from Moose and Andy the rotation has fallen apart.

If the worst happens I will fine with it with optimism towards the future and the new stadium ....... and THANK YOU New York Yankees for being in the mix every year since 1994 image

I'm really not trying to pile on here, but you've got to worry about next year too, at least as far as Joba is concerned. It's premature at this point, but doesn't a vist to Dr. Andrews frequently lead to Tommy John surgery?

Lets not forget Papelbon and his supposed shoulder woes, Red Sox nation was concerned as you guys should be as well about Jobba but he is a young kid so I wouldnt be sounding the alarms just yet...

Another good game by Ponson. I'll tell ya, except for the Boston game he has been very good for us.

Thank God Joba's injury is "only" tendinitis. It could have been season ending the way he was being shipped around the country to doctors. Not sure how long he'll be out, but we should have him in September. He's young, he'll bounce back.

    Hey gemmintman,

Is Ian Kennedy back in the rotation now ?

And who is this Giese who is pitching against the Angels ? Did you get him from Pittsburgh, or was he a yankee farmhand ?

Is your rotation now Mussina, Joba, Pettite, Ponson, and who else ?

Yeah Kennedy is pitching this weekend. Giese is getting a start too. Joba is out for 2-4 weeks, and Huges is waiting in the wings too. I don't expect a whole lot from Kennedy as I consider him a "Quadruple A pitcher". I think Hughes is the real deal, but neither of these guys is on the same level as Joba. You know as you saw him pitch against Beckett recently.

Excellent job by Moose and the defense. Now we better bring our A offense against the Angels or it could be a long weekend.

He is already out of the game. As I've said many times - Kennedy is no dam good. His stuff is mediocre at best and he has no mental toughness.

Did anyone stay up to watch the post game show? Kennedy gave the absolute worst post game interview following a bad outing that I've ever seen. 5 runs in 2 innings, and he's totally nonchalant, no self criticism, no I've got to do better, smiling throughout, saying he expects (deserves) another start, etc... It was infuriating. He can't pitch and he has no gut check in him, none. Do not give this guy another start, and trade him after the season! image

Just saw this note on SI...pitching woes aside we won't reach the playoffs when this is occuring:

Abreu leads the Yankees with 76 RBIs, eight more than Rodriguez. The last time the Yankees did not have any players with 100 or more RBIs in a non-strike season was 1992, when Don Mattingly led them with 86.

Yeah we're definitely not hitting like in recent years, and Arod's stats are complete fluff and totally misleading. He's batting like .220 with RISP, and I can't count how many times he has hit into DPs or struck out during crucial times. He's a $300 million piece of meat.

As you well know, I wouldn't waste my time watching an inferior team at 1am in the morning, however I do enjoy reading
Yankee sites after they perform like the girls that they are, and many of the diehard Yankee fans were saying the same thing as you.
They couldn't believe he was laughing it off. Funny, I thought I was the only one laughing at his performance. However, he was
laughing right along with me. Now I've got to go find and IPK icon to replace Donnie Baseball. IPK is my hero !!

Well I'm glad that other Yankee fans saw the same thing as me, and I hope that management gets rid of him in a hurry, but to say we're performing like girls is just dumb. We've lost 3 starting pitchers to injury not to mention half of the position players have been on the DL at least once, and we're only 3 games behind you in the WC. Oh I see that Minny is right on your tail too. Don't worry we'll take care of them for you soon.

Sorry - but I don't want to hear it. Injuries are part of the game, and every team (including the Sox) has had injuries to deal with this year. If anything, the Yankees having a massive $210M payroll should be able to replace these injured players with ease. And as far as Arod not hitting when it counts, why should he all of a sudden start doing that now?

Seriously I agree! Gimme a break, we lost Schilling completely, Dice, Buccholz, Papi ALL spent time on the DL, we got rid of our biggest bat, our team has had just as many tribulations! Like I said in the Sox thread I dont think either of us are going to take the Division this year- if either of us do it will be us though.

Ummm you guys are missing my point because you just can't wait to attack. EF said we're playing like girls. I said we've been ravaged with injuries and are only 3 games back. So in other words we've overcome the situation well and are right in the thick of things. Thanks and come play again image

And no you don't replace three starting pitchers with ease, ever, duh.

Regarding Kennedy, there was a brief article in the Daily News today describing his jovial attitude after he got bombed. Two veteran Yankees who they wouldn't name were very upset about the wrong attitude being displayed. I would bet big money that one of them was Pettitte.

Didn't Girardi learn the other night that you don't leave Marte in for two innings and that's he a specialty pitcher? Apparently not.
  • Options
So he let's Marte allow two people on before he realizes that this was Mariano's inning? Why not just bring Mariano or another fresh arm in to start the inning?

    Result, we lose.

Wow, quite a fan you are...your team is in the tank, 8.5 games back after having just been nuked by the Angels...SWEPT is the term. Your team has MAJOR pitching problems, the bats aren't exactly on fire, and the whole show is tanking. I'll bet Figgins is still laughing for atoning for his missed A-Rod ground ball for the double play he makes 99 out of 100 times.

Just this "one year" huh? So, if they were 8.5 games up you'd feel differently right? Sounds like sour grapes and a spoiled fan, like most Yankee fans. Wouldn't bother you? Sure, we get it, they suck this year, so I'm not gonna bother with them too much. I only like them a lot when they're winning and kicking everyone's ass. What a bunch of BS!!

If the Red Sox lost every game from now till the end of September, I'm still with them.

Oops, my bad. Gagne was brought in as a 7th inning guy to set up Okajima and then Papelbon. I thought Marte was brought in

    Hey baseball...

Let's not change the subject...you said " I hate to sound incredibly selfish but this would be the one year that it wouldn't bother me as much if the Yanks didn't make the playoffs. I'm rooting like hell for them to win every game, but it just wouldn't bother me so much if this one year they didn't make the playoffs.

What the hell does that statement have to do with you having friggin tix to the last game? You obviously made a VERY stupid post and are now trying to bail. I don't care if you sit with King George and get to push the plunger on King George stadium. You are nothing but a bush league fan who doesn't have the nads to stand by your team, good, bad or indifferent. Oh, but I suspect you'll change your tune if the Yankees make a move up (which I DOUBT) to become contenders.

Yet again a Yankee fan confirms my several previous statements that Yankee fans feel entitled, and it is just gnawing the absolute S*** out of them that their team is playing so poorly. They kinda suck this year, so, I'll just kinda overlook it and hope for better times in '09, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah.

    Pathetic, just pathetic!!

To me, as a Yankee fan, it had more to do with Joe Torre. When it was 100% that he wasn't returning this season, I remember saying to some of my friends something like:

"I can't believe how the Yankee organization devalued Torre's 12 straight years of making the playoffs. That has got to be the measuring stick for this season's manager. Even if the new first year manager wins 90+ games, but falls short of the playoffs, the season has to be considered a failure."

It was then (before they hired Girardi), and for that reason only (allegiance to Torre), that I reconciled to myself that if the Yankees fell just short of the playoffs I would be ok with that, and maybe in a quick, selfishly spiteful moment, even glad about it. I guess I just wanted them to realize what they lost in Torre, and what they took for granted every year during Torre's reign.

ughh.. isn't this post a load of garbage image Funny how Jerry professes "loyalty" in this situation as some kind of badge of honor as a fan! In 2006 after the Yankees swept the Red Sox right out of the playoffs all we heard from Jerry was NOTHING about the miserable Sox but all about how he couldn't wait for the Yankees to loose in the playoffs.

I'm not sure what you mean here Dan - I always want the Yankees to lose (that's the American way, isn't it?) but I always want the Sox to win. Even during some miserable seasons (2006 for example) I watched Sox games, and went to Fenway many times, until the end.

I would never say that it was okay with me if they lost. That was my point.

Nah .... your premise is crap Jerry. Pure utterly horrible smelling crap. Myself or any other Yankee fan will not be "okay" with what is going down now. We still watch the games, we still go to Yankee Stadium in its final days ( I am going Sept 17th vs the White Sox right near the end!) , and we still hope for the best.

Just because those of us who have watched a ballclub play in October for 13 straight seasons can somehow understand that INEVITABLY the law of averages might be catching up with us this year DOES NOT mean we are not loyal fans. A bit realistic is the way I see it. What do you want us to do? Wave our pom poms all around and stamp our feet and guarantee a World Series victory all while our pitching falls to pieces just so the ilk of yourself can say "I told you so" ????? Yeah right
