I would RIP but I doubt I could put up enough for more than one card out of any particular group.

What I like about those '14 Cracker Jacks is how even the wear is, and how authentic they look.

Even when they're stained or toned, they're probably the coolest looking stained/toned cards ever made...

Coolest collection of pre war mid grade cards I've seen this year.

    AMAZING RICKEY!
    is that yours?

the thing so great about the 1914 CJ's is that they are hardly found above PSA 5, yet the retain their tremendous eye appeal ....they even have the distinction of being the only Rat Eaten Cards around (rats dont like the Red ink BTW)...

No, not my Rickey. It's in the SCP auction. All part of a PSA 3-5 collection.

Wow Naz very nice pickups. Do you have them in hand yet? I am still waiting for my lot of t3's as well as my boatload from Mastro. I had been watching the raw lot in H&S with Crawford and Rickey but passed out of my price range
  • Stormsurge,

I finally got my 2nd 1914 Cracker Jack variation card for my 1915 set!

  • A couple years ago our local Pamida store put out several unsold boxes of the 2004 Cracker Jack cards so I bought four of them. In the very first pack in the first box I opened I hit a Ward Miller buyback 1914 original. I was not familiar with this set however I knew I was not holding a new card(though it looked new). It was an original 1914 issue that was inserted. I reluctantly sold the card to a fellow who needed it for the set he was working on. I dont know if he ever graded it however I am quite sure the card would have graded nm-mt easily maybe higher as it was beautiful! Some day when I win the lottery or receive some enormous inheritance I will try and tackle this gorgeous piece of baseball history. Good luck to all who are working on this one.
I have been collecting sports cards for 30+years.

guess we were bidding against each other psa9man.....those were sharp 4's!
  • Fandango,

I guess we were. I'm only going after the variation 1914 CJ's for my 1915 set, so there are only a few more cards that I need to finish my set.

Are you going for the complete 1914 set?

weird, collecting such a tough set to 100%, and then selling it right away !

makes you remember , you never "own" your cards, you just take care of them for the next "owner"....
  • Well to them it was an investment more than anything versus people like us which I'm sure will own ours for a long time because we love the set.

Could be true, I like making sets over time, then trading a whole set for one card of significant value.
  • I need your Help!!!!!!!! Does anyone have any 1915 Cracker Jack in PSA 7 or 8 for sale? Please let me know!

Fandango- The '14 Gregg is one of the variations from his '15 card, and as such is a bit more sought after by anyone putting together a master set of the 199 combined cards from '14-15. Congrats on the pickup.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Fandango,

Those are very nice cards. If that Gregg was in a PSA 4 holder, I would be all over it. As Griffin eluted, Gregg is one of the variation cards and one that I still need in PSA 4 for my 1915 master set.

  • I'd take that Gregg if you looking to find in another home image
  • fandangofandango Posts: 2,622
thanks, the gregg has a bad UR corner, otherwise i think its better than a 1.5....

wont be selling these anytime soon...will be crossing to PSA though....
  • couple more pickups....the Zimmerman shows why the SGC slabs are not as good as the PSA slabs...the card, which has great corners and edges, has slid under the black gasket, making it looked chopped up (like the Evans)...this movement could easily have damaged the card ----will find out when i crack it!

  • Been slow around here so I thought I'd say hello. Not much happening with my collection with the exception of a big trade this month. Still seems to be a buyers market.
  • Hey Fellas,

Is it just me, or does it appear that '14 and '15 CJs have cooled off substantially in recent months, following a powerful run in the wake of that SMR cover story? Ebay has certainly dried up with regard to CJ auction items, and the BIN prices have been way too high. I think that ridiculous pricing, followed by a shift towards auction house selling, has stymied the CJ frenzy -- at least for now. I guess that just means that it'll take a bit longer to complete my own '15 set, but who's complaining?

    Regards,

    J

  • its been going on longer than that....the 1914 CJ Auctions are few and far between on ebay......most are BINs that top SMR by a lot!

the recession has been noticed by sellers and they are reluctant to let their goods go too cheap....
  • thanks griffin! good stuff.....
  • Hey Griffin,

You're absolutely right about the economic slowdown, and I also think that circumstances have made buyers a bit more reluctant to part with their hard-earned greenbacks. Good eye!

  • Well, fellas, 1915 CJ auctions on Ebay have all but dissappeared in recent weeks/months, which has really stalled my collecting. I'm curious to know what some of you guys have been doing to circumvent the Ebay slump, or if you've just hung it up for the time being? Perhaps you know of another median where I guy could get his hands on some '15 CJ in a PSA 3? I'm all ears.........
