Or, instead of risking it, the two of you could start using PMs instead of discussing your differences any further here, which I respectfully request that you do.

Bryon, yes we could do that, like I said the ball is in his court now.

    Good for you.

    Good luck

Yes. He did have a few cards issued in 1948 and 1949, though, while he was in the minors.
  • I'm lovin this thread and the Martin looks great. You've made great so far progress... I have to say, this whole project is unbelievable and cannot wait to see the final trade!
  • Great job so far!!! He has gotten a Mantle (68) and a topps 52 (martin) but now will see how many steps to get them together. I was not busy with no Football or Baseball on tv so here is the recap.

  • If Alan Knicely is still alive, I think it would be too cool to have him pictured holding the Mantle once you get it (as Im sure you will)!

    Elemenopeo,

Good luck to you in your quest. I just put a 52 Mantle on layaway for myself. I wasn't clever enough to come up with the proposition you did. image I hope your idea pays off for you in a big way. Keep working that trading block, it's a fun ride for us to watch.

    Take care,

Thanks to all who made offers.

WOW, that's a huge trade up from the Rocket card!

    Good for you!!!
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
  • I think you may pull this off since you're getting publicity. I can see a dealer making the last trade for the 52 Mantle just to get the press that will come with it.

That one would work fine. I never noticed it before, but Mantle's bat looks school-bus yellow in that shot.

And thanks for the bump to the thread, but there's nothing on the block at the moment. Where were you when that Marino sticker had a layer of dust on it? image

It does give me a chance to extend a thanks to Guru who put a good word and a link to all this on his blog page... LINK. I appreciate it.

Bryon what grade Mantle are you trying to get?

I am not sure if you have ever mentioned that.

Good luck on the next trade.

    Steve
    Good for you.

  • << <i>Bryon what grade Mantle are you trying to get? I am not sure if you have ever mentioned that. Good luck on the next trade. Steve >>

Steve, on page one he said, "And the ultimate goal is to acquire a '52 Topps Mantle graded PSA 1 (or better, I suppose) with no qualifiers."

  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Ahhh so I guess it all depends on what he has to trade at that time.

    Thanks Alan.

I think Bryon wants to get around 225.00+ or more value. The Clemens was at least a 180.00 card. The Martin you show as doing well is at 152.00.

He has traded up every time. Traders should be aware that he is doing this for charity too.

    Steve

    Good for you.

He is doing it for charity? I thought he wanted the mantle for himself.

    Another quote from Page 1...

"And just so this won't be a completely self-serving venture, my plan for the Mantle, if and when I acquire it, is this: to hold on to it long enough to enjoy it for a while and show it off to family and friends (a few months, I imagine); then, auction it off and split the net proceeds with half going to charity and the other half going into my 2-year-old daughter's college savings plan."

That's still true... except the girl is 3 now.

WTG Bryon I wish I had something to trade, I may further down the road. Perhaps when you are near the 2k threshold.
