Glad to have it indeed - could flip it on Ebay for nearly $2K profit immediately, though I'm keeping mine.
Will all of these backoredred Plat Proofs increase the numbers we've been looking at? I assume not as they are sales numbers, but just want to be sure.
FINALLY got through to a Mint rep on the phone. She said that since the web site has been down that the phone center has been overloaded. Of course, she had no idea when the site will be fixed.
If you thought that the old reps were clueless, these reps know absolutely NOTHING about the products, nothing!!
I inquired as to why they are NOT shipping the UHRs on a first ordered, first shipped basis. She informed me that none had been shipped yet - good lord. No clue.

Judging by how the 2004 plat proof did, and given that the 2008 plat proof beat out the 2004 by a huge margin, I think that the 2008 will be just stellar in time.
In fact, I think that in years to come, many collectors and investors will speak of 2008 as one of THE key years in numismatics.
I know that many have speculated that some Hags, esp. sub-5K mintage ones, might be great coins in time.
A Mint rep. (and I know how little some of them know) said that each Hag is minted in full and will be sold, for years if necessary, until they sell out. Is this correct? If not, how long are they sold for?
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that only the most recent four First Spouse coins are available at any given time (unless a sellout occurs first).
The question is at what mintages will it be low enough to hold a price multiple in later years. Based on these numbers it is unlikely many will collect the entire series as could already be guessed by the crashing sales. It is a more expensive set than even the one ounce platinum coins.
<< <i>39 spouse coins is over $23,000 dollars to complete at current mint prices which may be the most expensive modern series except for one ounce gold eagles

The guy has been in office a month, can you give someone a break. As americans its in all of our best interest that we get out of this, and right now with a pile of crap he inherited, we have to cut slack and let him have at least a reasonable grace period. For crying out loud he got the worst economy in my life time handed to him, not to mention two wars and record deficits. No blame on the last guy?

I seriously doubt that all 20,000 have been minted. Besides, they do not know ahead of time how many Bu and how many Proof will be needed before the max mintage is reached. Most likely what the informed? Mint employee was referring to was the current mintage run. They will complete a run of perhaps 5000 or so, and those will certainly remain on sale until sold out.
It's possible that since these are minted to demand, that each issue will remain open until the end of the entire series. When there are enough orders in for a single issue, perhaps another run will minted.
If the Mint minted the full 20000 mintage when each is issued...... think how many blanks would be needed and how much the Mint would have tied up in the slow moving issues. They would not be able to afford doing this for long (or at least IMO it would be bad business model). And with the problems the Mint seems to be having in even obtaining blanks,.....

BO is getting the same 'break' that GB received for the last 8 years.
BO actively campaigned for the job knowing full well the circumstances. He's been hired, so he also gets the 'benefits' that come with the job.
Instead of giving a political rant, how about giving us your opinion on what we can expect gold and silver to do under a BO administration? Bullish? Bearish? Confiscation? Do you think the US Mint will continue to sell gold and silver throughout the next 4 years? There are many of us who really do try to understand what mayl be coming in the future in these areas.

I also can't believe the Mint mints all 40,000 of each First Spouse up-front. It just wouldn't make sense. I think we'll know in a few months what the pattern is going to be on sales, but I think all indications are these will only stay on sale for one year after release.

I'll probably get some of the later spouses when interest in the program is at its nadir. I'm thinking Chester Arthur's spouse or Benjamin Harrison's spouse.
I don't believe the Mint will sell 20,000 of each spouse. They will need to do something to attract more interest. I look for one of the Hags to have an ultra low mintage/sales...

You must be pretty young as I thought the worst economy in most of our lifetimes was in the late 70's when inflation and unemployment were both running rampantly in double digit territory. Ronald Reagan lead us out of that.
Obama inherited this mess from the big spending democratic congress and bill clinton's directive to loosen credit so that all people could buy a house whether they could afford it or not.

We should be very careful with this thread about getting into, shall we say, "non-numismatic" topics as this thread is way too valuable to get zapped yet this is exactly what will happen if it (or any thread) turns policital. IMHO, we really should just stick to the topic line. This is one of THE best threads on the boards and it would really be a shame to see it go. :-)

When the storm is at its worst and the citizenry must resort to inhuman acts to survive - That is when the Hags will win.
Who knows, maybe at some point, mintage will actually cease. Future Mint personel could then create a few fantasy pieces much like the 1913 Nickel and the 1804 Dollar.
But in a scenario like that, who wins?

Since the brief flurry last week, has anyone received any APE proofs this week?
I still have some APE proofs on backorder since the ordering frenzy on 12/8. Last week I called the US Mint and they said that the backorder shipping date was 3/11.
So, do these get added into the mintage data, or are they already included?

Hey PCGS is saying it, not me >>
You make such sweeping statements and quote scripture (sales reports) as if they are Mintages........one never knows what to expect from you?
There are a few forum members on the trail of the plat unc w mintages and we will have them long before they normally show up.......
until then, we are patient to wait....
when variety mintages are displayed they are usually included as part of the original total mintage,
and no one treats the non-variety version as a semi-key or key if the resulting number is low enough
so in closing, the market wont consider the 08w regular ase the key unless final TOTAL mintages (08w ase regular+08/07w ase) prove otherwise.

Glad to have it indeed - could flip it on Ebay for nearly $2K profit immediately, though I'm keeping mine.
Will all of these backoredred Plat Proofs increase the numbers we've been looking at? I assume not as they are sales numbers, but just want to be sure.

Thanks!!

The question is at what mintages will it be low enough to hold a price multiple in later years. Based on these numbers it is unlikely many will collect the entire series as could already be guessed by the crashing sales. It is a more expensive set than even the one ounce platinum coins.

No, I think the Jackson/Van Buren Liberty designs will achieve greater long-term popularity, even if the mintages are somewhat higher.

Interesting that it has been just over one year and the Monroe FS Golds are still up. It looks like they do keep them on sale until they sell what ever runs that they have minted, not just for one year.
Anna Harrison FS goes up for sale March 5 - see if the Monroe coins go dark the same day.
