I'm pretty sure 12/8 was the day they went on backorder..
Miles - do you happen to remember approx. what time of day you placed the order?
If anyone is trying to figure out the new tracking from the email for shipping use the last long series of numbers starting with 1Z - it works in the UPS tracking website.
Hopefully the numbers don't go up due to all these backorders being filled.

I received my APE proof coin (1/10 oz/ from the mint which was ordered on 12/8.
I had called the US Mint on Sunday regarding a return which had been sent to Memphis. This return (a damaged US proof set) has still not been processed. I asked the service rep and she told me that there was a 35 -36 page report of returns which still had to be processed. I don't know if these returns had been sent to Memphis and then had to be shipped to Plainfield.
So it could be the returns being processed or the inventory that was shipped from Memphis to Plainfield.
Anyway, there may continue to be good news on backorders. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Great article on the cover of CW (March 2 issue) "U.S. Mint contractor shipping products via UPS without requiring customer signature" which quotes Mitch extensively. Of course, The Mint and its new contractor still won't take action. Great quotes Mitch!!
I updated the chart based on the Mint's recently posted totals for 2006 & 2007 Proofs. I did not find the uncirculated totals? Does anyone have those? >>

They sure are. I think they will eventually be dah Big Kahunas of 2008.
Oh no, let's not get going down that path again! The numbers are what they are - reported sales - until they change. Unfortunately, nobody knows when the mint will announce the official mintages. Anything else is just opinion, speculation or a guess. The only thing we know for sure is that no more 2008s will be minted.

I don't understand your bad attitude here. I have incontrovertible proof that the numbers on the half-ouncers will drop by 623, and the quarter-ouncers by 512. The one-ouncers will rise by 6,904--6905 if George in Illinois paid his credit card bill on time. I'm not even going to TALK about the tenths as twelve container loads are sitting in the back lot of the Fulfillment Center.
I don't know. For sure, it won't be any rarity, but it's unique enough that it may stay popular, even with 100,000-plus mintage. I still want one, even with the high mintage. Many others may feel the same.

I think they must have done less than 90,000 2008 dollar sets though but that is only a guess. If they did 70,000 total then it looks to be a tie with 2006.
So if they have less than 20,000 sets remaining the 2008 will be the king of the unc. The thing is at the current sales pace of those sets we won't know for a long time as they are not selling very fast. Possibly many months of sales left, but who knows?
>>So if they have less than 20,000 sets remaining the 2008 will be the king of the unc.<<
For those who collect the single coin in original government packaging, the 2006-W burnished silver eagle (200,000 issued) will continue to be the king by a wide margin. More than half of the total 470,000 2006-W coins were produced as part of the special silver eagle 3-coin sets (250,000) and the 2-coin gold-and-silver-eagle sets (20,000). Most of these coins are likely to remain locked up in their respective government-issued sets rather than being absorbed into date-mintmark collections.
