Very impressive win for the Yankees last night. I admire this team's fighting spirit. I like the Red Sox too, but they looked a bit worn out. I expect both to be in the playoffs, barring some unforseen meltdown.
At this point in the season, it appears the Red Sox have a very good team, but the Yankees have the best team (with all due respect to the Angels and Indians). I think the Mets also have an outside chance if their rotation is heathy.
But there is so much parity in baseball, when the best team wins an average of 3 out of 5, the worst team wins an average of 2 out of 5, and everybody else is in between, that anything can happen in the playoffs.
So the key is to make the playoffs, whether wild card or not, and then get the ball to bounce your way a few games.
I can't for the life of me figure out why Giambi is at first today. We've got a ground ball pitcher on the mound, and Giambi is out there? Why don't they DH Giambi, sit Matsui because he's slumping so badly, and put Manciewitz at 1b?

Uhm wouldn't the Sox having a better record than the yanks be the very epitome of being 'better'?
I think it does...thanks for playing...goodnight!
Sox have the best team ERA in the AL (3.87) while the yanks are a very, very mediocre 4.45. BAA against? Sox on top again with .249, yanks again a very mediocre .269. Yanks are marginally better as a hitting club. .25 better in OPS than the Sox, but when you have the AL MVP you better be tops. OBP is a dead heat .364 and .362.
Head to head? Yanks hold a one game lead 9-8. Please knock it off with the 8 of the last 10 nonsense. The Sox have a 5.5 game lead on the yanks WHICH MEANS THEY ARE A BETTER TEAM.
Nah, thats crap ... Sox are not better. In April and May? Sure .... not now ... and even with all of the stats you just barfed out it does not take much warmth in the brain for those guys who watch these games and actually know what they are talking about to know that the Yankees match up very well with the Red Sox.
Shearon, don't you have a minimum wage 70 hour per week job to get back to so you can support your meager existence? Yes you do, get back to it and stop using the bosses computer.
anyway, big game today ! If the Yanks win it will be a very very good 7-2 September road trip that gives us the season series vs the Sox after the Sox started out the season 5-1 against us.

Barfed up? Is that how you define statistics? There's no denying the FACTS. And for $200 million I'd HOPE they match up well with a team they outspend by $70 million. The fact remains: Sox are 5.5 games in front of you clowns, and the Tigers are breathing down your neck for the wild card. What will the excuses be if the yanks don't make the playoffs? God I'd love to see how fast the so-called fans scramble to get under their beds if that happens.

FACTS? If you're going to quote "facts" at least be close to the truth. It's closer to $50 million than $70 million. Oh I know, what's $20 million between friends?
I don't think we're too worried about Detroit. Go check our schedule after today's game. If we don't make the playoffs then we deserve every criticism there is, but we will so there won't be.
lets hope we get some vintage clemens tonight. Detroit is keeping the pressure on, only 2 back. Jeter hit a BOMB yesterday, but that was it. Hopefully he is ready to bust his slump of the past few weeks and its a sign of things to come.
It was a nail biter. Mo didn't have his great stuff but good enough to get the job down. Joba was bound to give up his first run sooner or later. Lowell is having a great year and is a fantastic fast ball hitter.

what a game. Thank you Roger Clemens, Derek Jeter, Joba Chamberlain, Doug at first with STELLAR D, and a wild Mo ...... thanks to these guys we still have our 3 in the loss column lead on surging Detroit.
And don't count out a mini (hopefully maxi ) losing streak by Bosox to make things interesting in the AL East race to the bitter end!

Oh, my gawd!!!! If I am not mistaken 3 games in the Loss column is the closest that the Yankees have been to the Red Sox since the 1st few weeks of April. I still think they can do it.

man, seattle is only 6.5 back in the wild card chase but the thread for them has dropped to page 2, what a bunch of band wagon hoppin fans they seem to have
its like they only post when their team is doing good, but they disappear when times are bad, oh well, its a good thing they invested wisely in players and didn't spend 100+ million on payroll this year.

2 1/2 out makes me laugh more then anything. We all had to endure the Sox fan smack from April unitl well after the all star break before they realized what was happening.
Now, we all know the Sox are in NO DANGER of missing the playoffs so this is all about seeding right now .... and the best record in the AL gets to CHOOSE whether or not they play a 5 game series in 7 days or 8 days in the first round, plus home field, and yada yada yada. I would be shocked to learn the SOx have already folded the tent in favor of resting guys for the playoffs when sooooooo much is still in doubt.
Yeah the Sox are in the playoffs, but they're in trouble and they know it. Not just because the Yanks are closing which is painful enough , but their regular relievers are shot and well there's the Gagme phenomenon
The biggest mistake that the haters made was that they were talking and still thinking about the first half team that had a lot of injuries. Actually, since May you have seen a healthy Yankees team. This is when they began to prove they are the best team in baseball. I have no guess on if they Yanks will actually come and take the AL East but this team has battled and battled and battled. And its all these young guys that have helped make it possible.
Wow the division is 2.5 games and the yankee 'fans' get loud again...place was pretty tolerable when you morons weren't here running your yaps.
I can't wait until the world series is over, the yanks fail to capture it again, and this place gets mellow again. The giants and jets are going NOWHERE and you clowns will disappear like the front runners you really are.
So how about you stay out of this thread and you wont have to worry about the "fans". This place was a helluva lot better than tolerable when you werent around so who's the moron?
Your statement is a fine example of being inflammatory and the absolute vile spew you bring to this board. Once again you show how much of a loser you are.

As a diehard Pirates fan and Yankee hater (well just maybe jealous) I am actually rooting for the Yanks just because of Ax. Most of the Sox and Yanks banter on these boards is done with a wink and a smile but Ax just doesn't get it and is way too emotional in his responses. He has made it tough to hate the Yanks this year due to all his hate.

AT least 95 % of Sox/Yankees banter is done in good taste and good fun. I like ALL of the Sox fans here.
Shearon's hatred goes way deeper then just sports teams as he has genuine hatred for the New York area in general and its people. I am glad he has forced at least one hater to join the "dark side" at least just for one October
all joking aside, i just hope we wind up not having to play the angels in the first round. They scare me more than any other team in the playoff hunt as it stands now.
Pettitte goes tonight, lets run the table the rest of the season heh heh, I also agree with Mussina poster, great game last night, just what they needed (and the bullpen also), but I DO NOT trust him come crunch time at all. I'd much rather have hughes or kennedy out there if needed.
The Indians have essentially put a fork in the Tigers. We now have a nice 6 game cusion in the loss column and the Wild Card magic number is down to just 6. Thank you Cleveland .... until we meet again

I have not seen hide nor hair of the guy since April or early May? All you have to do is read the first parts of this thread to see what my sig is talking about. I have no doubt he was a good guy but MY GOD was he clueless about how long of a season baseball really is. Thus, I am sure he is very young and just does not know .... very young and Derek Jeter and crew has been around his whole baseball watching life .... very young and thought that the April Yankees and that awful start at that time were what they would be fielding come September.
Yanks showed a ton of spunk tonight, but they just couldn't finish off the Jays. After that 4 run 9th inning rally it sure seemed like another magic moment was going to happen.
No wonder no one likes you Axhole. Always trying to get an uprise. You stay here cuz you dont get mommy, daddy's, or anyone else's attention. You are a true loser.
Here's some advice....NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR OBSERVATIONS!!! Like Dan said, go get yourself a girlfriend or boyfriend and you wont worry so much about what NY and its fans are doing.

Also, Johnny Damon was a huge factor for us tonight. Not with the 3 run bomb but he was a thorn in the SOx ALL night.

Shearon's hatred goes way deeper then just sports teams as he has genuine hatred for the New York area in general and its people. I am glad he has forced at least one hater to join the "dark side" at least just for one October
