Fortunately we've got a 6 man rotation right now so burnout isn't likely.
That's what I see in the Angels. 6 deep and strong (Lackey, Escobar, Weaver, Saunders, Santana and Mosley) and that doesn't even include Colon. Even our Bullpen is looking sharp again. They slipped up more than twice a couple of weeks ago or the western division race would be over.

Watching the Yankee game on the YES Network and "watching" the Red Sox game on Yahoo via Gameday I said to my son I hope Russ Adams hits a Grand Slam off the great Papelbon. Dreams do come true.
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
Papelbon has been to the woodshed alot lately and has been quoted as saying "I was not into it" during his visit to the woodshed courtesy of the Yankees Gagne OWNS the woodshed Okajima has found a new home in the woodshed and now is shut down for "awhile" with a tired arm?
Papelbon comes in with the bases loaded and gives up a Grand Slam. Only 1 Earned Run gets charged to Papelbon. Do you think that is fair? I realize the Timlin loaded the bases but I think the runs should be split equally between Pabelbon and Timlin.

Yeah, let's go ahead and reinvent the entire scoring system. How about from now on we start counting runners that A-Rod knocks in as half an RBI because it really should be split equally between him and the guy that got on base.
The Yankees just need to tie the Sox in the end to win the division. They own the first tie breaker which is head to head competition ..... so the Yankees just need to lose one less game the rest of the way then the Red SOx and the AL East is the Yankees.
Just food for thought fellas .... I am making NO PREDICTIONS

BFD. Remember, the Yankees do not hang Division Championship flags at the Stadium.
if I had it my way, given the mental and physical condition of this team: punt on the division and embrace being a wild card.
-rest the starters -rest the "good" part of the bullpen -sit Ortiz and put some ice on his knees, legs, whatever else is aching -put a MLB version of replacement players on the field for the rest of the year -and do all this only AFTER securing number 20 for Beckett.
I think this is the only way to success in October for this particular Red Sox team
<< <i>IF...and a big IF....the Yanks and Sox meet up then its going to be HUGE to have the home advantage.

I don't think they can run on fumes any longer...they are even out of fumes! They will need to do it the hard way like in '04 if they will be successful this year. They play everyone every day and don't get the rest they need and they will be hurting in October.
I do like the fact that Manny is not being hurried back...same with Youkilis. I just wish Papi would join them. And Varitek...he needs a week off on a beach somewhere.

I think you are going to see this as the Red SOx have already begun by resting a tired D-Mat and Schilling. I bet you the Yankees do this too ... just shows how unimportant a division championship is anymore if the Wild Card leader is from that division. The AL East may be won by either team without going all out ......
I would prefer the Sox to get the division, but as it doesn't really matter. What I really want is for the Yankees to draw the Halo's in the playoffs because once that series is over, Jeter and company will be playing golf while the Sox beat up on the Angels.
If memory serves me correctly, the last two teams from the AL who went to the WS struggled at the end of the regular season but advanced each round of the playoffs to play in the October Classic.
Yeah, just like last week when the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 2 out of 3 up in Toronto. Starting tomorrow the Yankees will win 3 out of 4 at Yankee Stadium, better yet they will sweep all 4 games. The Red Sox will lose their first game against the Rays to Kazmir to keep the pressure on themselves.

You are right, this division title does not mean much when you look at the big picture. BUT, come on now .... the Sox had a 14 1/2 game lead for goodness sake. Are you willing to just ignore all of the major flaws that have cropped up in the last two months?
The SOx are playing like the Yankees did in April and May .... their bullpen has gone to pot and they are not hitting thanks to no Manny, no Youk, and a hurt Ortiz. Good luck if you want to ignore all of that and lean on what happened to other teams in the last few years and HOPE that trend continues. That is crazy....
Let's not completely discount the fact that the Baltimore Orioles totally suck, and mailed in their season somewhere back in August. The Yankees got to beat up on the shell of that already bad team, while the Sox dealt with the pesky Jays (who for some reason love to play in September). Now, hopefully they will keep it up against the MFY this weekend, and the Sox can handle their business in Tampa Bay. If not for Kazmir going tomorrow, I'd think the Sox would sweep - as it stands, they still should win, but he's always tough on the Sox.
you laughed at me a few weeks ago when I said the Yankees will win the AL East Division. Might not happen but it will be pretty darn close.

Dan, I certainly am not overlooking their imploding bullpen and I know both Manny and Youk are out for now. But I also know that Ortiz is healthier now that most of the year, Beckett is money when he pitches and Schilling has been much better after sitting out for 5 weeks in July/August. Rest is going to help DiceK and the Sox have winning records against both Cleveland and Anaheim. I will tell you I'm actually more nervous about the Tribe than the Halo's, even though I think the Angels are better built for the playoffs......wierd - I know. I bet that Dan's favorite Red Sox pitcher - Josh Beckett, will show why he wins the AL Cy Young award tonight. Actually, he'd better - since the way the Sox have been hitting lately, he'll need to be sharp.
Tough loss by the Yankees. Yes, Beckett will definitely win the CY Young now.

I'm not saying Manny isn't hurt (I actually think he must be, there's no way he couldn't play for this long and be able to - especially down the stretch), but you see the difference between him and Ortiz more and more. Ortiz wants to play through his injuries, because he knows the team really needs him.
Of course, I understand that Manny would have to play the field as well - but it still says something to me about Ortiz as a player.
Ortiz is showing alot of heart which I love! Manny still is my favorite Sox player but Im not sure what to think about this, I would like to think he knows he isnt ready and doesn't want to risk making it any worse- like it impacting post season play.

David Ortiz, for all his injuries, is now third in the American League in home runs.
Do you know which team has the best record in the American League? - the Cleveland Indians.
The wild card team may start in Cleveland, not California - and have to face Sabathia and Carmona right off the bat - not a pleasant prospect.
2.5 game division lead, 8 to play.
7 game lead in the wild card, 8 to play.
Of course, I understand that Manny would have to play the field as well - but it still says something to me about Ortiz as a player.
And GO DICE!!!!!!!!!!!
