Okay, good call on the weak members of the Yankee bullpen being used in a blowout - no problem, point taken.

Let's end this thing tonight! Schilling needs to have one of his classic gutty performances, and Clemens needs a complete and total beatdown in front of the Fenway faithful. It will, in all probability, be his last time on the mound there.

There is NO doubt in my mind that Clemens didnt get that big from Debbie feeding him doughnuts for breakfast every morning!

Now THAT was a GREAT ballgame .... whew .... so much fun and so much angst wrapped all into one jittery 4 hour session. Nice job bean eaters .... and it was very nice to see Roger Clemens pitch his tail off in his last regular season apperance ever at Fenway. Oh, and THANK YOU Derek Jeter .... whew what a game image

I never understood why Giambi played 1B yesterday with a ground ball pitcher on the mound. MKwicz is outstanding D, and he even had two hits tonight.

Boy, yet another lesson to be learned. Just days after Jerry ( who has been invisible for 48 hours plus!)dubbed the Yanks as "squeaking" by with the wild card all of the sudden it is the Red Sox holding on for dear life in the division and playoff placement image We all know the Sox are in the post season but they could hurt their placement ......

I'm not going to pull a "Yankee-fan" and disappear during the tough times, believe me. I just got back from the gym, where unfortunately they have televisions, and unfortunately those televisions were tuned to NESN. So, I got to watch the Gagne choke-job and came very close to throwing a few plates at the television nearest me. I'm not sure what to say - but I will say this...

First of all, the Baltimore Orioles are a joke. They folded up shop months ago, and barely even try to win anymore. What a disgusting display by them tonight (and last night, and probably tomorrow) - you guys let Mike Mussina (the absolutely awful Mike Mussina!) shut you out? Just mail it in then, and don't even bother playing these games. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are playing in September like their lives depended on it (per usual for them versus the Sox, they always give us a tough time in September, despite them always being like 25 games out of first).

And, was Francona smoking crack tonight? You leave Gagne in there when its obvious he can't throw a strike, let alone get anyone out - and you don't even warm up Papelbon? Papelbon can't come in for a 4 out save? And, to make it worse, JD Drew misplayed what should have been an inning-ending fly ball into a 2 run double. Can we get Trot Nixon back?

I'm absolutely disgusted. Terrible job by Francona tonight, and if I never see Gagne pitch again, thats fine with me.

I knew you would be here soon Jer, its just that I have not seen you since you wished a final Fenway smackdown of Clemens 2 nights ago which of course did not come close to happening as Clemens did himself proud in front of the ungrateful "r-o-g-e-r" taunts.

Anyway, The Jays played the Yanks tough too. They just got beat ..... they got beat 2 out of 3 just like the Sox got beat 2 out of 3 by the Yankees. I would think the Sox will still win the division BUT that Sox bullpen puts no scare in anybody anymore. Also, Francona tried to bring in Paplebon for a 3+ out save vs the Yanks. What happened? Papelpuss blew up and was quoted as saying "I was not into it" image riiiiight, only Mo does the 1+ inning stuff ..... Papelbon is and never will be associated with the likes of Rivera.

Two things - Gabbard's season is over in Texas. He's got arm trouble.

And, I didn't have a chance, but Fat Roger pitched one heck of a game on Sunday night. So did Schilling, right up until that home run. But for all the crap I was giving him, I will man up and admit he pitched extremely well on Sunday night.

That was actually one of the best games I've seen all season, despite the ending.

I don't want to hear any whining about Youk's wrist. The man uses home plate as a head rest for Christ sake. Your guys pitch inside all the time (which is fine) and hit Arod twice before that happened with Youk.

Oh and thank you Gagme for letting a wild pitch in the bullpen hit the greatest closer that ever lived, Mariano Rivera. One of Rivera's fingers on his pitching hand went completely numb, and he still came out and pitched that game 3 in the recent series. That's why you almost got to him that night, no other reason. I'll bet the Boston papers never covered that little tid bit!

    Oh he's fine now image

Well said Ron. Yankees / Red Sox are going to have to use every available resource down to the wire before this division is taken. Indians and Halos should have sometime to rest up before the post season starts.

Youkis is one of those guys just begging to get hit. Hangs to close to the plate. always running at the mouth on the field and that big ugly head of his has to go!

Tree, The Sox have already shuffled their rotation to get guys alot of rest and Joe Torre is thinking about doing the same thing as soon as the Tigers are no longer a worry and that could be any day. I don't think the Sox or the Yanks are going to play all hands on deck the last week .....

EDITED to say that now the Tigers are 6 games out in the loss columns with just 11 games to play. So, all the Yankees have to do is go 5-6 the rest of the way and the Tigers need to go 9-0 just to tie. Not gonna happen ... I suspect Posada and Jeter (knee) get more then a few days off whether the division is won or not and for Torre to line up his pitching. Those things are actually more important then the status of being division winner ...

Well, Red Sox fans, the lead is still 2 games, don't despair.

Under the heading of "Every cloud has a silver lining", consider this:

    The Sox have a 7 game lead in the wild card race, with 10 games to play;

New York has what, 7 million people, think of how many people the Red Sox are making happy.

The Sox are willing to give up home field throughout the play-offs? and the Yankees steinbrenner is willing to hand the division crown to the Red Sox? Do you think the Yankees would want home field advantage, since they stink out west?

    Tree,

The Red SOx have ALREADY shuffled their rotation for the playoffs. I was not guessing, I was telling you this. D-Mat and Schilling have been pushed back to get extra rest on the order of 6-8 days between starts in order to line them up for the playoffs. No team that is all hands on deck is going to push back pitching to get them rest.

Torre will be shuffling the rotation soon too as to line up his starters for the playoffs .... George Steinbrenner does not run the Yankees anymore. THAT has been evident all season. Whether that is good or bad I don't know yet .... you watch, Jeter(knee) and Posada will get rest whether the division is won or not.

I think you're both right. The Yankees want the division badly, but if the Wild Card is secured they're not going to break an arm and a leg to win the title. The regulars will get rested. Torre is smart, and he knows how they can get burned out just like they did last year. Fortunately we've got a 6 man rotation right now so burnout isn't likely.
