Dice K needs a rest. he looked awful.. for what, the 4th start in a row? A lot of money for a guy just barely .500 pitcher with an ERA of 4.50 ish and rising.
Bucholz wont start, but will continue to come out of the pen. They should shut down Douche-K and pray he recovers for the post season, cause right now I wouldnt be starting him against anyone.
I'm disappointed in the way Dice-K is wearing down, but please - there is no comparison to the Yankees desperate and foolish Clemens fiasco here.
I do think Dice-K might need to be skipped in the rotation at least one turn, because he needs to get his sh@t together for the playoffs - not so much against the Orioles in the first week of September.

You guys should ask Scott BorArse if you can get a $50 million refund at least. ROFL

Agreed! I am so freakin' pumped up about Moss and my Boys I hardly paid attention to the Sox... nice 3-2 win, 5.5 up! We are in for a tight race my friends!
5 and a half games up. Sox have 18 games left and the evil empire has 19.
Let’s say the Sox play .500 - the yanks would have to go 15-4 just to tie. I don't see that happening - especially with the Sox having 12 of their last 18 at Fenway and 1/3 of their remaining games are against TB. For what it's worth, 12 of the 19 yanks games are on the road. This division is essentially clinched. Now if only Seattle can get their heads out of that dark hole on their backside and show up for a baseball game. They basically handed the yanks the wildcard by loosing 13 of 15 while the yanks went 10-5 during that same stretch. They picked up freakin 8 games in just over two weeks during the crucial part of the season. No wonder Seattle doesn't have any championships to speak about.
I agree with weekendhacker - the division is all but won, however - it looks like NY will squeak in as the wild card (though I hope not). It will certainly be one and done for them though, if they face the Angels in the first round.
I don't even like the Sox vs. the Angels, that would be a tough series for us. But, I think we still win it.
Lessons learned in the past... We will win the division IF and WHEN we are up on NY at Seasons end. I like our chances but remain cautiously optimistic.
Go Tampa and kick some!!!! Let's get that all important Loss Column down to 4 games.

I don't know how many times that Yankee fans have been accused of drinking the koolaid but if there is anybody who guzzles down Sox koolaid by the KEG it would be Jerry. The Yankees have a 4 game lead at this point in the Wild Card race. The Red Sox have at this point in time a 5 1/2 game lead in the East. That is a 1 1/2 game difference in each other lead. Does this mean the Red Sox are doing a tad bit better then SQUEAKING out the AL East title? I don't get it man ..... come on Jerry! STOP drinking the Sox java!
Well done Kazmir. Well done Big Papi. Well done Varitek. Well done Tampa Bay! A manageable 4 games in the loss column with 19 games remaining and a big series coming up in Boston.

Hmmmm ya know, it is not all that unfathomable that the Yanks take 2 of 3 in Toronto and then take 2 of 3 in Boston as the Yankees do hit all of the Sox starters well. I never want to get ahead of what is really happening but it will not take much for the Boston Red Sox to realize that ..... holy crap! we have just a 2 game lead or so when this weekend is done. Stranger things have happened .... this is what its all about!
Besides their good hitting Tampa Bay has been getting very good pitching lately. I think the Rays can take 2 out of 3 from the Bosox. The Red Sox have 5 games left with the Devil Rays and the Yankees have 3 games.

the Sox offense was weak against the Orioles, they just continued their torrid offensive pace of late against TB. Trend? I'd say so. Who'd have thought that a lineup without JD Blew could be worse, but it was.
Since 5/29 the Yankees have a .645 Winning Percentage and the Red Sox .543. That about says it all.

Wow, it doesnt take much to rattle sox fans these days does it? Schilling pitched extremely well, he was simply outdueled by a younger, better, rising star. Ortiz doesnt start; the lineup was a little weak; dont panic. T.B. has a very young, very talented lineup, I would be envious of the talent on that roster. After Kazmir and Shields though, they have zero starting pitching and a pretty awful pen. Sox should take the next two, but you never know
And its worth mentioning again - has there been a more boneheaded trade in the last 20 years than the Mets trading Kazmir to the Rays for a bunch of scrubs? Imagine if this kid was still pitching for the Mets?
One 1-0 loss to the worst team in baseball doesn't change my outlook for winning this division. Listening to the radio broadcast last night, it was mentioned that the D-Rays have played 28 series in Fenway since entering the league. They won two, lost 22 and split 4. So it appears the next two games are entering the bag for the Sox.
Looking back at this thread I find myself amused at how I have been on such a roller coaster ride with this team, I am ( as well as most here ) am a seasoned veteran of living and dying with the Red Sox. This whole division race was an every day emotional thing for me and after thinking about it, it would make sense for me to shut my eyes and block my ears until the season ends and peek at who won the division- It is just natural for the Sox to take your heart and crush it and the next day give you a new found sense of hope and joy! I am going to remain cautiously optimistic on our chances for the division but not holding my breath......
<< <i>And its worth mentioning again - has there been a more boneheaded trade in the last 20 years than the Mets trading Kazmir to the Rays for a bunch of scrubs? Imagine if this kid was still pitching for the Mets? >>
IF he pitched every game against the Sox he would be 24-2 right now.
Seriously though, he is young and going to get better. Look out ... fortunately he stuck on the D-Rays at least for the short term.

yuck. WC again? They're playing like they did when they limped into the 2005 playoffs. Pitching used to be a strength, now it seems that Beckett and Schilling and hard rain will be the ticket to the WS.

Kasmir is always tough against the Sox - but especially with a lineup missing Manny, Papi - and Julio Lugo at DH!
Yankees are certainly still within striking distance.
But take heart Sox fans, there is an 8 or 9 game lead for the wild card at worst.
Actually, I see both teams making the playoffs - but whoever has to go to Anaheim is in trouble.
