<< <i>PS you bought empty wrappers to make a bar, knowing full well you'd get these same wrappers for free from the rips?

    Wow, Thats a good point ! >>

    certainly is a good point.

  • << <i>dabighurt,
the way it should happen: steve offers a case, someone on the board decides to be the 'gatekeeper' of the money until everyone pays and then pay steve. steve mails it out.

an option would be: pay steve and when everyone has paid, let him send it out. we are putting a lot of faith in the 'gatekeeper' and i was volunteering to be that on the 80s topps baseball case bust. i have no problem having everyone mail the funds to steve rather than me, i just like pulling from a sealed case. zef may have more info since he was involved and onsite on the 75s. >>

No offense to those who got "taken," but isn't it kind of stupid to let someone as shady as this guy to be the "gatekeeper" when there is someone as honest as Steve Hart that you could go with? I mean, philosophically, isn't a middle man inherently problematic anyways?

Well, we arent seeing any answers. Anyone get any return PMs?

I would like to make an observation. Why did you insist on shipping the rip, only to edit your posts with a image after Steve offered free shipping?

I think ya gotta copy and paste it to micrword to insure it's saved.

If you email it to yourself - it's equivalent to a LIVE link - I believe - so it will be gone in the morning.

I believe I'm correct on this?

Why would this thread go *poof* ?

Serious allegations with significant amounts of evidence and little retort.

Think the board members should be allowed and deserve to see this played out and would HOPE the mods think the same.

One of the sadder points to the whole story is that those of us that participated in the rips may end up sending just as much trying to uncover the truth as we spent on the rips.

I filed a Paypal dispute for the rip I participated in. Only one star card pulled.
I encourage others to do the same.

Here is a picture of an '84 box that Steve Hart has on his site right now.

    image

Here is a picture of a box from the guy that Gary bought his 84 box from.

    image

and again, the one Gary said Steve sent him...

    image

Do the boxes from the same cases typically have the same type of markings?

edited to add: From the Auction desc that 80's won Box in photo is not the box you will receive, boxes are pulled randomly out of case.

Didn't he say he was going to bed for the night? That was at like 8:00pm in California, or am I screwing up the time zones?

If I was accused of something I didn't do, my plan of action wouldn't be to go to bed at 8pm without defending myself adequately. Just a thought.

If I am not mistaken doesnt Steve shrink wrap his boxes ?
It doesnt prove much because he could have taken the shrink wrap off before the pic was taken.

Not all of them. I have received some non shrink wrapped
  • One thing I think is particularly odd and have a hard time understanding is why he would pay for a flight from Cali to Chicago and back just to take pictures of the '75 mini case break. Wasn't he even talking about trying to get this press to show up for it? I'm just not getting it.

Mikey...In the thread on 75 Minis I believe 80s said he drove from Cali.. to Chicago and made purchases at several stops along the way.

This is obviously a closed case. Especially with him editing the 1984 Topps Football Break thread.

Possibly to cut down on any more "attempt to defraud" charges.

who organized the first rip last summer with the 1980's baseball and 1980's football?

i lost my job in october or i would have jumped into all of these. i guess there was a small blessing to be out of work. these rips were being posted more and more frequently.

i am naive sometimes and want to give everyone a break and believe they have good intentions. i have bought a lot of cards on this board from fellow members without a hitch. if he refuses to defend himself his silence seems to open the door for a lot of trouble.

we all have had dealings with ebay scumbags, but this board seemed to be a place where honesty was the rule. we may get angry with fellow members, but there was no dishonesty. IF and i say IF these allegations are true a he has ruined some of the trust on this board. i commend whoever it was that looked into this and did the legwork. you saved a lot of people more money in the future.

as other have mentioned one bad apple won't ruin it for everyone, but how can someone look at the mirror knowing what kind of thief they are. like all thieves greed and/or stupidity are usually their downfall.

The most important aspect of this dialogue this evening and the spirit of Lee's inquiry is to insure that the process cease - i.e. any future rips by Gary - until this is sufficiently cleared up.

No one should pass final judgement on this incident until Gary is given the opportunity to fairly and justly defend his position.

    Having said that...

Gary - why all the deletions?
