Prices like that must make you think twice about your set.

After picking up a nice lot of 9's, I've pushed my way over the 50% hump. Currently 51.97%

But, more importantly, I've past (When I was seventeen it was a very good year)image into 7th on the current finest list. My set GPA isn't as high as I would like it to be (8.54), but I'm within my goal range (8.5-9.0).
I may upgrade my goal GPA range to (8.75-9.0), but for now I'm happy with the set.

77 sure is a great set. I collect all-star cards from 75 thru 80 but the 77s are certainly my favorite. I have all 18 in PSA 9 or better as it stands now (5 PSA 10s). I would like to one day have all the 77 all-stars in 10, if possible.

I think I am going to set up a 77 AS set in the Collector's Showcase, if I figure it out that is. image I haven't registered a set or anything to this point. Good luck with all of your efforts!!!!

    Yikes,
Munson, and "Bird" would run you in the thousands in psa 10. What you have now is pretty amazing!
My fav is the Brett. I just love the colors of that card.

Post some scans if you get a chance.

I will do so. I hear ya on the cost. It's just a dream...but maybe one day. I currently have Brett, Lynn, Jones, Foster, and Luzinski in PSA 10. I will see about scanning in a couple in the near future. I can't imagine the difficulty doing an entire set is. Some of you guys' collections are flat-out nuts. image

    Really nice stuff.

The first set I really bought a lot of packs for. The Brett is a huge favorite, as is the Lynn. I also love the Tony Perez and Catfish Hunter cards.

I am pretty sure that I can hook you up with a really nice PSA 7 Rose and Brett but I'll have to check at the house later.

Estil, it looks like I dumped my 77 PSA 7 Rose and Brett. I apologize for the misinformation. I honestly think I gave them to a coworker's boy. However, all is not lost. I did find a nice 75 Fisk in PSA 7. Shoot me your address and I will send it to you ASAP. This one's on me. Bobby

    SOM,

I haven't seen you update that bad boy recently. What's up?
Or did I miss the update?

Bozgriz has been on the fast track since mid-year 07 , and will soon pass me if I don't start subing some cards.

    Czar,
Sutter 10! WOW, now that's got to be sweet. Nice pickup.

I sure gotta agree with that. That display is really nice Erik.

You're very observant, David...I've been focusing on my 1967 set...only 30 cards to go there. I haven't forgotten about my 77, though! I'll be back at it later in the year, I guess...unless I see something real cheap that I need.

    Thx!

    Nick

  • estangestang Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭
Thanks! Pale in comparison to Bobby's set... SGC did a real nice job with registry and I believe they are working to make the scans even sharper.

I'm doing All-Stars from 1975 to 1988, with SGC from 75 to 80 and the rest PSA. I'd like to see PSA put All-Star sets & I'd register them.
    Enjoy your collection!

10s, Frank? Yikes! I (temporarily) gave up on this set in 9s, needing about 50 to finish it.

Your completion of this set will be one of the all-time best efforts of the Set Registry!

    Good luck!

    Hi guys,

I just picked up a 77 Leflore in PSA 10. I am now one-third of the way to my goal of owning all 77 Topps All-Stars in PSA 10. I certainly realize that this isn't nearly as tough as what most of you guys are doing (but still incredibly tough for me)! Just an FYI and a little personal celebration. Plus, someone needed to bump this thread back to the top! image

I'm not a 77 aficionado. Why is the Dwight Evans a low pop 9? Is centering a huge problem with this particular set or are there a ton of surface problems? Is it just this card? I'm doing a showcase Evans set for myself and his 73 Rookie, 74, 75, 76 were all easy to find in 9's and I got the 78 in a 10. I was really miffed to see the pop report on 1977 PSA 9.
  • DavidPuddyDavidPuddy Posts: 3,479 ✭✭✭
From what I've seen it's excess print, and registry issues with this card. Combine that with the soft stock, and poor centering with all the 77's and it becomes a real tough card.

It's yet another example, DavidP, as to why your earlier post on this thread (May 12) is so true:

"Most people don't realize how tough this set is."

The entire year is tough, Vito!

A couple of my latest additions. I have always really admired the Staub. My apologies to those who already saw these on the main board. I really enjoy this thread (though I know I am not remotely close to most of you guys in terms of my limited 77 collection). I think the vibrant colors and sharp framing that make this set distinctive also make it relatively tough.

Anything new happening, gents? I busted open a 77 Vending box (GAI 9) the other day with nothing great. No gradeable AS cards to speak of. There was a nice Ryan, Ryan RB, and Dale Murphy RC that I may submit in the near future. Several other commons that look the part as well (including a really nice Pinella). No well centered all-stars though. Disappointing for me. image Oh well, it was fun. I will try again.
