    Nice Chaz!

Anybody have a Gifford, Grange or Thorpe before I (or my wife) spend the rest of my money?
  • JasP24JasP24 Posts: 4,645 ✭✭✭
    Josh,

I'll have a PSA 5 Grange in hand next week...

Looking for some PSA 5 (1949-1953), PSA 6 (1954-1960), PSA 7 (1961-1969), PSA 8 (1970-1979) and modern PSA 9's to add to my set if anyone has some dupes lying around. Prefer to focus on well centered cards. Not looking for cards to bump, but just very solid eye appeal.

OK. This has happened before, but I can't see posts since Greg's post yesterday. Any suggestions on how to bypass this glitch? I've posted, which used to clear it up. I've reset my preferences which has also done it. And I've had no luck. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhh!

In the explorer bar at the top, you'll see the page number. All you have to do is edit the address by updating the page number for the next page. That should pull up the next page in the thread. Sometimes, you also have to hit refresh to see the newest post on the updated page.

Its the cards baby, the cards...Those HOF RCs will draw you back in everytime...lol

Only way I could get out of collecting them altogether would be to sell everything off in a short time period and never login to an internet connected computer again..All it would take is seeing one on ebay, or getting an e-mail about a good deal or checking up on the Registry..I'd be right back in it...lol

I've made a couple of nice .5 pickups the last week or so...

    Otto Graham 8.5 (from Greg)
    Len Dawson 8.5 (ebay BIN)

I know I'm probably still in the minority, but I really like the .5's. Gives me something new to chase after...lol...I'm up to 12 in my collection now..

It doesn't show the first few (depending on post size) postings to a new page. To see them you have to do as Greg suggested. Before you click the forum it shows who and when the last post was made, if it is not the same then other postings/posting is on the next page.

They are "for sale" at prices that allow him to buy the card back and make a nice profit. I got quoted $600 for Waterfield 6, $1200 for Baugh 6, $700 for Pihos 6 and $200 for Jim Johnson 8.

Well, I guess that explains why he isn't selling anything else..lol..I was hoping some of them would find there way to ebay auction, because I didn't buy any from his initial offering a few months back when he said he was selling everything...Same reason, for the few I needed he was asking way above market...Not that there is anything wrong with that..You either price to sell/move ASAP, or you price at your "only if" price when you aren't really getting out of the set altogether. All the cards in my NFL HOF RC collection have "only if" prices attached...If a substantial offer came in that would be above what I could expect to pay in getting the card back then I would sell as well. But my goal is still 100% in my minimum grade requirements..Anything i sell, i will eventually need to buy back, or can buy back at a grade (or half grade) lower and still be ok with it.

    Jason,

    PM sent.

    Everyone else,

I sold the Len Ford PSA 7 but still have a PSA 8 Jim Kelly USFL rc for sale @$45 dlvd.

More good news on the bumpage front. I just hit 5 out of 9

Buck Buchanan from 8 to 8.5
Jm Johnson from 8 to 9
Merlin Olsen from 8 to 8.5
Lem Barney from 8 to 9
Ted Hendricks from 8 to 8.5

    The following didn't bump

    Hirsch 8
    Unitas 8
    Gregg 8
    L Wilson 8

I'm most surprised about the Unitas. The corners were very strong but the centering was a hair off. Based on the feedback so far, I thought the corners were weighted higher; hence my surprise.

All bumped cards for available for the right price image

I've got my 11 card review order on a 10 day sub. Today is day 10... Wish me luck!

SMR on what I sent in was about $2400. In the next grade up, it's almost $10k. So definitely some margin if I can get a couple of bumps, especially on some of the bigger cards. The biggest would be the PSA 8 1938 Goudey Dick Bartell. Quite possibly one of the nicest 8's I've ever seen from any era.

Day 10 passed for me yesterday. Amazingly, my $5.00 Special was done in less than two weeks! Hmmmm...
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
    Did you have poppage today?

I find it very interesting that they double the amount of time on the special (10 days instead of 5) yet you only get a $1 / card break on the price and they STILL can't get them done on time. The 5 day specials were rarely late for me. Now I pay a buck less and they can't get it done in 10 days. Very lame in my opinion. My submissions for the special I don't really care about, as long as they don't take 3 months, but the $12 special should be done in 10 days, especially when it's replacing the $13/5 day special.

I love the centering on it. curious to see why it's a 5. Corners look soft, but not too out of line with some 6's I've seen. could be a small wrinkle somewhere or a badly dinged corner.

As for your mojo, I'm certain that's why PSA waited on my review grades, so i could work out a deal. image
  • gregm13gregm13 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭
    Josh,

I've definately seen worse 6's that your Gifford. although I hit 5 of 9 on my recent review, I'm curious as to why the Unitas didn't bump. I gave that a 80% chance of bumping...

Added the Gifford to my set and the Bill Dudley from Art. Gave myself a little breathing room at #10. I might have a couple more surprises to add if things go well too. Would leave me with one card to go. No surprise, it's Bronko. If I can stash enough money to get one at Nationals, I'll be all over it.

    Thanks Jay.

Traded away my PSA 6 MC Bobby Layne and got a straight 5 that is just as well centered. Also added a PSA 4 Jim Thorpe.

I didn't chase the Zimm because I have 5 of them at PSA right now with two solid 10 candidates from cellos and racks that I opened. Plus, with 4SC submitting a ton of these, the price is sure to come down.

Adorable Hannah as bronchial-itis or something right now. Had to start giving her nebulizers yesterday. Hopefully it'll clear in a week. Poor kid is coughing, weezing and sneezing like crazy. I think I've gone through 2 boxes of Kleenex in the last two days.
