Not to mention the PSA 10 1977 Casper and PSA 9 1962 Billy Shaw. They had some awesome luck with pop and re-grades!

Holy crap. I missed that Stenerud auction. Love to see it, but the picture's already been taken down. And Snake got it too. Surprised it didn't go to Jon. These are some phenomenal prices!

Snake is not a HOF rookie card collector. He collects some entire sets from the 70's, as well as team compilations for many teams from their Super Bowl years.

speaking of great raiders...ie 'snake' stabler........(BTW andy I thought you were the snake...Eastern Diamondback)......I agree with jay.
ray guy needs to be in the hall of fame........what a shame he is not yet in. Punters are measured in distance of punt. Guy's punts not only were league leading long.....but had hang time measured in minutes. They used to go to a commercial break when he punted and returned
back when it landed. I wonder what was the punt return avg. of his rockets. He was also a great athlete.......I remember him saving so many bad snaps...and even running for 1st downs after them that we never see now. He was also the 3rd string QB saving a roster man. He actualy took game snaps as a QB and didn't do all that bad.

Missed the 10 stenerud........I would have put a link up for the selmpn but my teacher gave up on me...I'm to stupid!!!! maybe there was a worm in the apple.

  • Hey Dave, you're not crazy, I check this link almost everyday. I enjoy the spirited discussions between some of you guys and the updates on who is buying what. As I mentioned to you guys earlier, I just got married a few weeks back and my card buying has unfortunately begun to slow down a bit. However, fear not, I'm still in the game! In addition to the HOF set I'm also trying to upgrade my 61 Packers Lake to Lake.

I'm not as active as I once was, but I check this thread every day still.

I picked up a PSA 7 Emlen Tunnell and a PSA 7 Mel Renfro. I had a 5 on each, so they are nice little upgrades. I got the Renfro 7 for $36, which I was very happy with. Especially considering they've gone for 3x on occassion and an 8 would set me back a few hundred plus. Tried to win the Bulldog PSA 5 and Nevers PSA 7's on the bay recently but got spanked on them. Thanks Bill & Tom. image

I notice this set isn't getting the updates like it once was. I do have a couple of cards I've got my eyes on, so if those pan out, I'll post them here of course.

Nice pickup Josh. That seller had some bad luck. His PSA 8 Krause rookie only sold for $63, which is also really cheap.

    Mel Renfro RC

My snipe was over $100. Got it in the mail yesterday too.

Jay - SP Authentic looks like a release date of 2/2008. Which is VERY odd. Usually it's out by now and Contenders is the last release of the football season. Heck, I think Topps DP+P will be out by February. image
  • When does 2007 SP FB boxes come out?????

I just got an email from Larry Roselli. His website is LRCARDS Check him out for some good prices on unopened material. He may not be the cheapest, but he always delivers.
This is what his email says on 2007 SP Authentic:

2007 upper deck sp authentic football wax cases 12/24/5 - release week 1/30/2008
12 box cases at 1350.00 del per - boxes from 119.00-115.00 del per

I'm not as psyched about this years Rc crop. Now with A. Peterson getting hurt, I don't see a lot of initial value in this years product. I'll probably break 1 case and than buy lots off Ebay.

  • Dave,

Thought the Sun Times show was down again. Only spent 1/3 of the money I took. Was looking for a 1948 Leaf baugh and 1933 Sportsking Thorpe and didn't even see either one. Way too much new junk! Bought some decent HOF cards, hopefully get some 7's. Bought a nice (NM) St Clair Rc for $18. Felt like I wasted a day.

  • I rarely chime in here but two items.

Also, Doc, which Lake to Lake set is yours?

    Hey Dave!

I didn't pick up anything for this set. I did get a Bert Bell Cut autograph card for a good price. Overall, it was a good show. Everything was overpriced, which was expected, but fun to be around all the collectors and a good way to spend a Saturday. I saved some money from the show, so hopefully I can find something nice on ebay.

  • Doc,
It's Skinsfan to worry about, not me. I bought the commons of eBay a couple of years ago. Last year I picked up a complete set with SGC graded stars. Most have been switched over to PSA but the last group has just been submitted. I will pick up cheap upgrades and will try to replace the Max McGee which is killing my GPA. Will never get close to 7.00.
    Fuzz
PS. Not even a Packers fan and these are the guys that took Super Bowl 1 from my beloved Chiefs. No real long term dedication to this set. Funny enough though I have an OK 69 Drenk's set or two in the works as well. Are you on that one yet?

    Fuzz,

You've got a great set there, you only need four more to complete. I'd still like to upgrade my set as well. What I really want is that Starr PSA 9 1 of 1, I'd like to know where that is at. I haven't really considered the Drenks yet as I keep pouring my $$ into the HOF set. I've got 5 graded extras right now from the L to L but I already checked your set and you have them all, sorry Fuzz.

    Doc
  • The four to complete my set were part of the last submission and all are crossovers from SGC.
No idea on the Starr 9, ask Jeremy at the FB card store. He might know where it is.

    Jason,

Just wanted to know when Devin Hester is going to be added to the future HOF modern set?
What rookie card will it be?

    Thanks,
    Tom
  • Did anyone see the '57 Berry PSA 9 on eBay right now........................WOW!!!
What do you think that one will go for...pop 1

    As for the Hester question
I am a huge Bear fan, but I think it a little too early to be adding him to the future HOF set.
I jump out of my seat everytime he gets the ball kicked to him. He is an amazing player and gets some great blocks too.

    Whoaaa...Little soon on that one..lol

I know he's been great as a returner and all, but the absolute minimum to even be considered for the future HOF set is 5 years in the NFL. If he has 25+ returns for TDs after his 5th season, I would probably vote for him.

No idea what card though. I don't own any cards newer than 2001..

I was only half kidding when I asked that question, but isn't he, statistically, the best returner in NFL history with not even 2 years into his career.
  • JasP24JasP24 Posts: 4,645 ✭✭✭

<< <i>I was only half kidding when I asked that question, but isn't he, statistically, the best returner in NFL history with not even 2 years into his career. >>

Well, I think he is most certainly ON PACE to become that. But statistically, no he doesn't yet have the most returns, most return yardage or most return TDs in NFL history. If he blows out his knee next week and never plays again, no he will not be considered the greatest return man ever. For that, he will need longevity and consistency. You don't get either of those things in just 2 years...

Another point this brings up is HOF status. As of right now, NO ONE has ever been elected to the HOF as primarily a return guy. I think being good return players helped a few guys get in, but all of them were primarily a regular starter who also returned kicks. Hester is primarily a return man who plays sparingly on offense. I think he will have to score 25+ return TDs to get into the HOF without much contribution on offense or defense.

He's the best I've ever seen though. Amazing how easy he makes it look.

  • His punt return this past weekend was amazing. When he leaped over the would-be tackler (think it was the kicker) it looked like a video game character making a jump at full speed. Incredible!

LOL..I thought the same thing..He looked like Madden 2008 on Rookie level...lol

Just a bit of trivia, Devin Hester is the first player in Madden football history to be given a perfect 100 speed attribute!

  • I just wanted to let everyone know I'm doing a bit reorganizing and reallocating on my PSA sets, including my HOF RC set.

My wife and I found out we are expecting our 3rd child and I decided to get a real job instead of sticking with the academic route.
In the meantime it makes sense to take a little money out of the card collection (just until I start making bank of course).

My sets are listed under Michael W. Moore. I'm listing a bunch of stuff in my Ebay store but I might be able to do a little better off Ebay (those fees are killer).

It's not a fire sale. So I won't be giving anything away. And I will still be collecting (especially SD Chargers stuff and some player sets).
But if I have something you have been looking for, drop me an e-mail at mwmoore808@hotmail.com
(PM is probably a bad idea since I just noticed tonight I had a message from Oct 20 image )

I think Favre and Marino should be ahead of Elway, with Favre being higher than Marino...
  • When i look at the 3 80,s Qbs out of all of them only 1 i can see playing back in the days of Baugh or Graham or Johnny U
You could slip a leather helmet on him ask him to play 2 ways Offence and Defence and he would fit right in and that is Mr Farve no other modern day Qb fits that mold or even comes close ,What people forget is the old school guys were more then just Qbs Baugh was the best punter in the game in his time.

On another note maybe everyone could say a prayer today for #21 off My Washington Redskins Sean Taylor who was taken from us at the age of just 24 leaving behind a 1 year old little girl.

    MAY GOD BLESS THE TAYLORS

The press always pointed out the issues Taylor had with the law but here in the DC area he was known for many great acts of kindness with children.
And as a football player he was one of the games best safetys it is not far fetched to say in another 6 or 7 years Sean could have been 1 of the elite that we talk about adding to the HOF sets
