Picked up this Montana. One of the nicer 7's around for my set. $64 ain't a bad price either.

I belong to a FB group.....PSA Sports Card Collectors Group. There aren't many members, just a few guys that love cards....and I think it was meant to be football related, but people post all sports there. I will definately check out the one you started as well. But we could use more members on the other one.....too many Packers fans in our current group...LOL. Would love to have another HOF collector or more posting there.

Nice Montana. I have been looking to upgrade my 8...but with 9s reaching the $400 range, it could be tough.

The Lombardi is a pop one. Last year he was the #1 Packer HOF, Packer All Time and Green Bay Packer HOF set leader with five minutes to go. Kell then posted his yearly pickups and pushed him to second. Well this year Ryan spared no expense to make sure he was number one across the board. He called me last night to say he was publishing. I grabbed a nice bourbon and as he committed his sets I refreshed to get get a look at these beauties. WOW!!! Is all I can say.

Thanks for posting. Ryan has some great cards and he's a great guy to deal with too. I was lucky enough to get his PSA 8 Henry Jordan and PSA 9 Willie Davis castoffs.

When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I have a handful of castoffs also. He lives just up the road from me so some day I will see the whole collection in person. That will be an exciting day, though my wife does not think it is so exciting.

With Tomlinson Officially retired is he a first ballot guy?

    I say yes.

Easily a HOF'er. With the league moving to more multiple back systems and more focus on the passing game the run on 10,000 yard rushers 100 TD's might be over.

    Tomlinson is a no-brainer first-ballot lock.

So...now that Tomlinson is retired....Who is the active career rushing leader? Mcgahee?
  • dfr52dfr52 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭

<< <i>So...now that Tomlinson is retired....Who is the active career rushing leader? Mcgahee? >>

If Ricky Williams stays retired the top two are Thomas Jones and Steven Jackson. If Jones retires as well the top three are Jackson, Gore, and McGahee.

wow....wouldn't have thought Jackson could have that many yards by now. Interesting.
  • FavreFan1971FavreFan1971 Posts: 3,103 ✭✭✭
What is a shame is Jackson is going to get the Rickey Watters treatment when he retires. Not because he was a jab like Rickey but because he never lead the league in a major category. The only thing going for Jackson is his average yards per game will keep him at 1,000 a year. If he plays until he is 32 that is 4,000 more yards rushing and 13,000 total with 500 receptions. Those numbers would put him in the HOF. If he retires today I think he sits in the Edge James, Watters, Terrell Davis group.
  • TmbrWolf22TmbrWolf22 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭
I agree. Now with Bradford there, that 1000yd per season average could be a little tough as well. Hopefully they can find just the right pass/run mix. Hope he can stay healthy for many years to come as well.

This may be a silly question.....But, Did John Abraham's name get brought up when we all voted for additions to the Future HOF set? He seems to be the 2nd highest active Sack leader behind Jason Taylor. Did he not make enough Pro Bowl appearences or something? I really don't recall his name even being mentioned. I could be wrong.

Just got this. I know it is the off season but come on. Only one close to consideration is Willis but the others have not chance. No chance at all.

    Hello Everybody,

A fellow registry member has made a request for the 6 players and cards listed below to be added to the Football Future HOF Rookie Players - Modern set.

    1. HARDY NICKERSON - 1989 PRO SET #353
    2. DARREN WOODSON - 1992 STADIUM CLUB #654
    3. TONY BOSELLI - 1995 SP #147
    4. DALLAS CLARK - 2003 TOPPS CHROME #196
    5. HALOTI NGATA - 2006 SP AUTHENTIC #104
    6. PATRICK WILLIS - 2007 TOPPS CHROME #TC240

In consideration to all of the registrants in this category, we would like to poll you on this request.

    1. Yes, allow these players in the set.
    or
    2. No, do not allow these players.

Please reply with either a YES or NO vote for each player.

IMO he has had a good career but not one worthy of the HOF. After a quick glance at the All-Time Sack Leader set I can name quite a few retired DE's who were better.

I was very surprised to see those players up for a vote as they have not been discussed at all in this thread. Nickerson's rookie should 1989 Score #199 as it is used in 3 other sets and Ngata's rookie could be Topps Chrome or SP.

I do not participate in this registry set, but I do collect HOF rookies. I agree that Willis is the only person on this list with a chance, however not yet, he still needs a couple years here through his peak...I think he is only 28.

Boselli is interesting but I think he ends up like Sterling Sharpe, perfect fit for teams HOF, but did not play long enough...

I did as well. Laughed and thought how much this would make Jasp angry. If he was still doing the set. Not only are they adding Hardy Nickerson but using his Pro Set rookie instead of his 89 Score.

Guys, sorry for the shameless plug here. I have decided to sell or downgrade a few cards in my collection, and pretty much stop collecting most cards past 1988 or so. I put this list on the BST forum but figured it was applicable here as well. Let me know if you're interested in purchasing these, or Ill entertain a trade for a card in one less grade. I havent priced anything yet, but it will be in lines with VCP. Not a fire sale, I dont need a kidney, just cleaning house and refocusing my attention on other football items.

PM me here, or email me at faotw@hotmail.com if youre interested, want some scans or just want to shoot the sheet. You know...

The 52 bowmans are larges, all the cards are in line with the registry, so you dont need to worry about it being an SP authentic, or a Topps chromw with foil, etc. All of these were in my registries, and they will fit quite nicely in yours. If you want to meet up and trade, Ill be at the national in Baltimore as well, at the Gridiron Great table with Bob Swick mostly. Thanks guys

After two transactions with Publius and OTWCards I am over 71% now. I crossed the line in the sand (3.0 rating) late last year. I my opinion once you cross 3.0 you don't go back. If you look at our set we have 132 registered sets. There are many lines that can be drawn on this set.

Starting the darn thing. You have no clue what you are getting into
1.00 rating - Shows one of two things. You either have a huge football card collection and have stumbled onto a 1.0 rating or you just opened a can of worms and started the HOF set addiction.
2.0 rating - You clearly have drank the entire pitcher of Kool-Aid and you are addicted.
3.0 rating - Everyone at this level is above 50% (Mint State's MOSH sale does not count) If you are at 3.0 or above you are meathead like me. You love the game of football and you strive to get the best card you can afford.
5.0 Rating - Your wallet is empty because you just dropped $650 on a piece of cardboard for a player you have only seen highlights on the NFL network and have never seen play in color.
+95% completion - Your wife cringes when she sees the UPS truck show up and the guy is walking up the door with ANOTHER small package for you. You can seriously buy a nice house with a collection at this level.

I love this set and I know I will never be at 100% but I will get dam close. I am cringing when it comes to Peyton and Brady being added to the set. Dropping a grand on their card or picking up some nice vintage is a tough choice.

Here's to the 2012 season! Good luck everyone on your collecting goals this football season.

Laughed when I saw this. I just sold a PSA 9 Brady out of my collection yesterday.... I'm starting mine over trying to do everything from the 80s on in PSA 10. Which means I'm going to have to fork over some major dough on those guys. Why do we do this to ourselves?

    Great post!!!!

I inquired about a card from Scott (OTW), and he got back to me with a price. I also asked for a scan and he said that he would put one in his sale thread, and he never did it. I am sure that he's probably busy getting ready for the National, but I was kinda bummed. It was either buy that card from him, and upgrade my set a little, or buy a new hunting bow. Since he forgot the scan, I just went ahead and got the bow. Scott has been pleasant to deal with, albeit I have only had one transaction with him in the past, but for me, It was a big one. (purchased my Jimmy Brown RC from him.) Everything on that transaction was top notch, and couldn't have gone smoother. Maybe I will hit him up again on the card if he still has it after the National, I will have more disposable cash then.

I have never dealt with Publius. I saw his thread and my mouth started to water. They both have so many great cards listed that my wallet started to hurt. I doubt I could afford any of them. It seem like you rarely see great HOF RCs for sale here, and once you do, there is more than one person selling. I am always torn on what to buy, or ask about, and usually feel like I bought the wrong ones or missed out on some great deals on certian cards, that you just can't find anywhere else.

    Thanks for the laugh!

I am not doubting this statement one bit, nor have I ever had a worry about that. (As a matter of fact, I have never had a negative issue, or transaction with ANYONE on these boards.) He has a fantastic collection, and I'm sure he is a great guy.

Very interseting selection. I'm glad to see Culp get the nomination b/c I didn't think he had any chance at it. I believe he would be the first NT in the HOF if the HOF differentiates between DT, NT, and Middle Guard (which they should).

Robinson's selection over a number of LB's w/ more career accolades was unexpected, not that he isn't a worth pick.

i would love to hear some discussion about Culp. when compared to some that didnt get the sr nom or hasnt been elected after a sr nom (say jerry kramer), how much of chance does he really have? clearly during his day kramer was regarded as one of the top 3 at least guards in all of football. now thats not fair to hold culp to that standard. but what is culp's big claim to fame that makes him now hall worthy??

could it be that both he and robinson are just there to get their nomination and maybe nothing more? robinson will be fitting the anti-Packer bias of that there are already enough players from that team in the HOF. so i think while he might have a slightly better resume he might not make it either. so is this just an attempt to clear two names through the list?

if robinson gets elected what does that have to say about why kramer has not been?

I don't think either garner enshrinement. This coming from a Packer Fan too.
