Congrats, Mike. That looks like a nice 95 s! (you could have had one sooner, remember? Hope you got it at a good price for your budget)
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
<< <i>Let the record show there has just been listed a 1904-s Half in Pcgs 55 on the bay with a BIN of 8750, for those of you keeping tabs. >>
Dennis - This greased stained 04-S has been around for a few months; Broadstruck made a comment about it when it first appeared, saying something about not frying bacon around your raw coins.
The price is very aggressive - $8750 - without a Best Offer. I'd be hard pressed to offer less than half that amount. I sold a very choice AU 55 [ EX: Shireman ] to a dealer two years ago for $6K - and I believe he flipped it for a small profit within a few days. High prices brought alot of these 04-S's out of the woodwork - when I owned my AU 55 it was the highest certified AU known and a POP One in AU 55. Now there are over a dozen in 55.
As a side note, when I upgraded my 04-S with an AU 58 - it also was a Pop- One - and I believe there are about a half dozen now.
I wish the seller well and hope he gets near his asking price - but without a Best Offer option on his eBay Listing, he's wasting his time listing the coin. JMHO.
Joe: Glad to see you've mastered the fine-art of attaching images. I'm glad to have acted as a Go-Between to get the image reduced. Thanks again Dave99B for all your efforts.
My new Dimes should be posted soon. Sorry to keep y'all in suspense. My computer is still messed up. I hit the wrong default setting and now I've lost all images being shown on PCGS.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited to add: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My PC at work is working just fine - so...
Here's my new 1908-O Dime. I remember this date was extremely difficult to locate when I was working on my Dansco album. This is just a very oportune find. I'm thrilled to have been offered it.
Other newps, the 1899-P in PCGS 58 and the 1911-S also in PCGS 58 are too large to post here with the size constraints of 50 Kb. They just made it on the size maximum of 120 Kb on the Registry.
I'll post them here when they get resized. The 1899-P is plum and gold and the 1911-S has an unusual "Dappled Toning" - quite unusual.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
One of the highlights of attending the Baltimore show was finally meeting Dr. Pete (Peter Shireman). What a nice, down to earth guy. We talked coins, mostly Barbers, while I did some business at Harry Laibstain's table. Peter was helping out at Harry's table. All in all, I had a very good show - walking the bourse floor - and I enjoyed meeting quite a few of the board members here, including another Barber specialist, Glenn (PonyExpress8).
It was a pleasure to meet you as well. I am hoping to make it to the Central States show in April/May and be able to view what looks to be a real nice opportunity on some barber halves in mint state.
I did pick up two nice barber halves in F to VF for my mid-grade set, the 07-O and 11-D, not the most difficult dates, but two I needed. Still missing the 95-S, 96-S, 01-O, 02-S, and 04-S. The fun is always in the hunt.
For what it's worth, my registry set is now updated with many new images of gem barber halves.
At one point, all the images were uniform and from Superior Galleries, but I've updated many over the past 3 years and pulled images from various auctions and have posted them. Unfortunately, I don't have images of all the coins, and some are much larger and the quality is variable. Some day I will try to get them all into a uniform format.
This coin finally arrived tonight after making its way across the country registered mail ex. Dale Friend per the pedigree on the holder. Had lots of trouble imaging this one as it has a different look depending on the lighting. Still not sure which image I like better, so I'll post them both:
1900 Barber Half: A- has it been cleaned? B- does it matter?
I've been staying away from cleaned coins, but felt this one might be OK (a lot of fine lines, but there doesnt seem to be any interference with legends and devices). And it's not like someone's trying to fake a higher grade; cleaning doesn't create detail that wasnt there. It just looks too "clean" for a worn coin, ya know?

DrPete - Your set is a perfect candidate fro True View Imaging. Although its $20 per image - I have not seen too many photographers whose talents can hold a candle to Phil @ PCGS.
Edit to add: I just watched the Dale Friend PCGS Video and was directed to the CBH set Dale has - and who had his set imaged by Mark Goodman. I think Mark could do an excellent job for you as well.
Thanks for attaching new images to your collection.

Been over a week since this thread has been bumped!! Here's one I purchased this weekend at the PCGS Vegas show. Wasn't looking for one of these, but it was hard to pass up, even though I way over traded/paid for it I like it though so who really cares!!!
<< <i>Any barber-philes going to the Central States show in Cincinnati? I'll be there at Harry Laibstain's table. Come by and say hello.
There are some incredible barber coins in the Joseph Thomas collection including many quarters. The halves aren't as plentiful, and no 04-S. >>
The Joseph Thomas collection is one of the great - "unsung" - collections in private hands today. Check out the 1804 PR 58 Dollar and the 1876-CC Twenty Cent Piece in PCGS 65... OMG...
His Barber quarters consist of some of the finest available - and I assume our good friend, Steve Duckor, will be in attendance to cherry pick the missing dates he needs.
The only downside is that alot of the Barber Quarters are a touch too white - hardly any toners in the group. The 1901-S in PCGS 63 has some decent toning - but his 01-S in NGC 66 is too white for my liking. There is a choice 01-S in PCGS 45 which is stunning for the grade IMHO.
The 1898-S in 65 caught my eye - and when I looked up the Archives - this coin sold for $16K+ a few years ago. This is alot rarer to locate than any 01-S IMHO - and I think both Dale and Sunnywood would agree with me on this. Not knowing which dates Steve still needs for his Quarter set - I'm sure he's doing alot more than just tracking it as I am.
BTW - there is a very nice 1909-O Quarter on the BST in PCGS 55 in case anyone needs one. [ No - NOT mine ! ]

Peter - you're right - not too many halves caught my eye on the Heritage auction for CSNS. .....have a good time at HLRC's table.
