Between your Halves and Steve's Quarters there are some great coins being offered at this year's ANA's auctions.
I'll on the Highway when the auctions are running but I have a feeling that the other Barberites I'm visiting will also be anxious to view the auctions Live as well.
Thanks for showing my old Micro O - I hope it goes to a good home. >>
I have seen many of Glenns coins over the past few weeks. Though I dont collect barbers ( I do really like the design) I have to agree that Glenns coins are great. There are a few real amazing one in there and the rest are just great coins. I too will be curious on the auction results.
I am not able to collect MS Barbers but if I did I would acquire coins such as Glenn H. has these past few years. They are all beautiful!
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

Mike,
I read the preface and was touched. As you said, the 05-O that you provided was the last one I needed to complete my set. THANKS. IT has an honored place in my collection. Here's a pic I took of it.
I am looking forward to meeting you in August and we will talk Barbers till the wee hours of the morning, but first we'll take a cruise in this.
Bring your 92-O micro along. MAYBE we can make a trade

I spent a couple of days in Gettysburg last year after a Baltimore show. I have to say it was an incredible experience and a place I want to go back to and explore some more. You might want to visit the Eisenhower Farm as well. It's right there and a great place to visit as well.
Hopefully, the website is up and running. Thanks for all the kind words everyone and I plan on posting some more of the half photos very soon Mike.

KK - That coin marketer has yet to get back to me about the other 1896-S Quarter that we discussed this week. It seems he's just on a fishing expedition - and doesn't own the coin and is just shaking the trees to see who's actively looking to pay major bucks for his client's coin. Knowing what you paid for your coin and its now a "Bell-Weather Guide" for what the other 96-S should sell for.

FYI, he never represented to me that he owned the coin. He told me he has access to the coin in question and that it may be available for $XX (see your email).
Thanks for the compliments on the Barbers. The 12-s was purchased as a VF, the 97-S, F-15 and the 15 a VF, all of them original. The 15 was the only coin I needed for the album, but I just couldn't pass up on the others.
Tombr - great car and the perfect 70's muscle car color.
OK I will give the grade a try. I am guessing it's a sweet original 58. There sure is a lot of meat on it and from the photos hard to see any rub but there is my guess.
Great coin.
Here is a photo of my 1892-S. I bought this coin originally from Jack Beymer. It has PL surfaces although probably not quite enough mirror to be designated as such, even though NGC would do so PCGS has decided not to designate anything PL other then $1's in their holders. Several of us have brought this up for a long time and we are told it is something PCGS would do some day but..........
I just saw an awesome sight last night. I am with family and a friend vacationing a few days here in Hawaii. Last night we went out to the viewing sight and observed the Lava flowing into the ocean here on the big island of Hawaii. What an awesome sight to see lava spewing into the ocean, the steam rising up hundreds of feet in the air, the red/orange glow of the flowing lava from the East Rift zone cone where the Lava is boiling out and the occasional ceiling opening or surface area where the lava is flowing down the hill to the ocean. There were several times where you could see the lava spraying out like a fountain into the ocean, truly spectacular. This is my third trip to the big island and the first time I have been able to see the eruption in such a spectacular way.
And now back to a coin here is my 1892-S PCGS64 somewhat PL. The contrast between the devices and fields is pretty nice. This has always been one of my favorites as there aren't many PL Barbers out there. Enjoy.
Although I have received the Stack and Heritage catalogs for the upcoming ANA sale in LA, I have yet to receive the Bowers and Merena catalog. I have been checking the B&M web site frequently and this afternoon, I noticed that it was now on line.
By the bidding having already taken place, it appears that the web site has been open for this ANA auction for a few days - unless of course, the prices lsited as Bids are in actuality the sellers reserves.

I hope everyone has the opportunity of viewing this beautiful collection of Halves. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I spent quite a bit of time over the last few days looking at Dr. Steve Duckor's Quarters - and all are just wonderful - but I'm sorry to say they are just too high graded to slide in my meager collection. I think Dr. Peter Shireman should start a collection of Quarters and where else better to start than with the Duckor coins ? [Peter, I know you have a nice start already.]
I am looking forward to my Barber Road Trip in two weeks. I guess I'll have to do a Longacre Trip Report after each scheduled stop on the "Barber Trail" from Naples, Florida to Cape Cod.
Stops along the way are in Georgia to view Darrell Mills collection; The Dr. Johnson Brothers collections in South Carolina; the Dr. Soles collection - and his next door neighbor's Gem Mint State collection of Barber Halves [ an amazing UN - registered set ] in Virginia; the Tom Breivogel collection in Pennsylvania; and lastly, the Dan Flood collection in New Jersey.
My return trip from Cape Cod to Florida will entail the viewing of Redshoulder's Half Dollar collection. Although I have helped Redshoulder locate many of the coins in his collection, I have yet to see the vast majority of his collection. Just ran accross this on eBay - I had a few eBayBucks to get rid of before the beginning of August - and I was actually very surprised to find it, considering I've been looking for awhile:

The online B & M auction catalogue is completed. The physical catalogues should be in the mail probably as we speak. Everything went online on the 14th. If anyone would like additional photos of any of my halves I would be happy to provide them directly via PM to anyone. The photos I have are a bit better then you will find online in the catalogue but that's pretty much the way it is for any of the auction companies.
To further answer your question Mike the opening bids are just that. Reserves if any have yet to be posted just the same as Heritage does it.
Here is a colorfully toned half that I bought raw and is now PCGS 63 CAC. I replaced another 63 with this one as I liked the original toning so much on this coin.
If I recall correctly the obverse has some interesting die clashing as well.
As to the ANA sale, the online bid numbers are probably reserves. However, I have 19 coins in the auction and I did NOT have any reserves so the numbers must have been something B&M came up with. Note: my coins are not Barbers.
As some of you know, I have a Thread on the BST asking for AU 58 Barbers - all denominations.
Yesterday, I was offered nine dates for my Dime collection. This virtually completes my set of certified coins. All I need to complete this set is an 1897-O [ sound familiar, Ron ? ]. Although I recently added an 1896-P in NGC 58, it needs to be crossed over to be added to my Registry set.
Here's a sample of the coins being sent [ the images are mostly too small to post and are being reimaged.]
1892-S - PCGS AU 58:
1895-P - PCGS AU 58:
1899-S - PCGS AU 58:
1902-O - PCGS AU 55:
1902-S - PCGS AU 55:
1909-O - PCGS MS 62:
1909-S - PCGS AU 58:
Three images [ 1896-S in AU 55 & 1906-O in AU 55 & 1907-P in MS 62] are currently not available. I'll repost images as they become available.
I'm beyond thrilled to have these wonderful coins added to my collection and I owe a serious debt of gratitude to the seller, who may or may not wish to be identified.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Wow, that is quite a group of dimes to be found all at once! Several nasty sated in there... 1895, 1902-O, 1902-S, 1909-O, and 1909-S are all challenging in the PCGS AU grade range. These are virtually never seen for sale, much less as a group!
<< <i>Wow, that is quite a group of dimes to be found all at once! Several nasty sated in there... 1895, 1902-O, 1902-S, 1909-O, and 1909-S are all challenging in the PCGS AU grade range. These are virtually never seen for sale, much less as a group! >>
"Nasty sated"? Oh! Nasty Dates!! I think if I had those, my appetite would not be sated- I'd just want more like them!
Great looking Dimes Mike. I really love that 1909-O. Great color.
I found myself doing some coin scans for a friend and thought I would scan a few of my own since it has been a while since I have posted anything on the Barber thread. The coin that has me feeling the most satisfied is the PCGS VF35 1895-S. Not terribly expensive, but original choice VF coins only come along once every couple of years it seems (contrast that with the 1895-S Morgan costing three to four times as much, and available all the time).
Great additions and so many at once as mentioned. Tremendous!!!!
Tyler thanks for sharing yours as well. I am a bit partial to the 95-S date myself as the one in my set in the auction was my first Barber Half, purchased raw and getting a 65 grade at PCGS. That's the one that got me hooked.

Has anyone else received the new Stack's catalog - Internet only sale for 8/18 ?
A fantastic 1901-S Quarter in PCGS VG 10 is on the block. Its a truly choice VG 10 - great eye appeal.

Nice amber toning but those black specs on the obverse are very bothersome.

Monster Barbers.
One of the reasons I hesitate to work thru them.

As some of you know, I have a Thread on the BST
asking for AU 58 Barbers - all denominations.
Yesterday, I was offered nine dates for my Dime
collection. This virtually completes my set of certified
coins. All I need to complete this set is an 1897-O
[ sound familiar, Ron ? ]. Although I recently added
an 1896-P in NGC 58, it needs to be crossed over
to be added to my Registry set.
Here's a sample of the coins being sent [ the images
are mostly too small to post and are being reimaged.]
1892-S - PCGS AU 58:
1895-P - PCGS AU 58:
1899-S - PCGS AU 58:
1902-O - PCGS AU 55:
1902-S - PCGS AU 55:
1909-O - PCGS MS 62:
1909-S - PCGS AU 58:
Three images [ 1896-S in AU 55 & 1906-O in AU 55 & 1907-P in MS 62] are currently not available.
I'll repost images as they become available.
I'm beyond thrilled to have these wonderful coins added to my collection and I owe
a serious debt of gratitude to the seller, who may or may not wish to be identified.

Will be anxious to view your set with all the new additions!

PCGS VF35:
PCGS AU55:
NGC AU58: my scanner is terrible with luster.

I like the 1909-S, very tough coin to find in any PCGS grade, but especially AU, maybe I need to start a WTB post too
Michael Kittle Rare Coins --- 1908-S Indian Head Cent Grading Set --- No. 1 1909 Mint Set --- Kittlecoins on Facebook --- Long Beach Table 448
