Quarternut : That's a very pretty quarter Thanks guys! I don't normally collect anything newer than 1838, but this coin just spoke to me, it said BUY ME!!!

Holy cow, that is one amazing VF30 97-S. That must have cost you a few pennies.
Wait....maybe you ARE a stock wiz, and had some AMZN Calls?
Dave >>
$550 .. it cost more then my XF-40 specimen however I remember seeing a F-12 specimen go for over $400 on ebay a couple months back so I was comfortable with the price. Luck of hitting the website at the right time I guess.

VERY SWEET. I've not seen a worthy VF in that date anywhere for the last couple of years. One of my final quests for the Dansco set. Although I just bought my long sought after 05-O in much the same shape as your 97-s, for which I was elated. Now for that painfully tough crusty 08-S. Anybody????
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
My newest purchase - its going to get cracked out for the Whitman -
[ please excuse the images - yes, they're mine and a first for me in posting something I imaged; they were taken quickly while at work with out a lot of thought to lighting. ]

...and Brandon, I'd like that 95-O back to crack it out for the Whitman.
Once its complete - I just very well may sell it - en masse - to you .
I'll image it one of these days - all the TPG Tag Inserts are behind all the coins - and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results - its turning out to be a very nice collection.

Thanks guys...I thought it was an XF-45 too and was disappointed when it came back as an XF-40 I might resubmit for a regrade one of these days. BTW I just picked up a 1905 XF-45...I think this was the last coin Craig was looking for before he completed his set...with a pop of only 3 I figured I should jump on it and did...no pics right now but hope to have it in hand in a few days. Thanks for guessing the grade.

The 1909-P is a tough coin to grade - [ I purposedly ignored the crispness of LIBERTY ] - and the three dimensional left eagle's wing feather tips confirm its an XF 45. Its a 45 all day long, IMHO.
Edited to delete inacurate information - my memory was of a different date.

Thanks again for your comments on the 1909-P. I bought this coin as an off-chance at an little advertised, small town Florida coin show last year as I was driving the country roads of rural Florida...I really didn't expect to see any Barbers...much less mid-grade Barbers...but I saw this grissly old gentleman in the corner...he had lots of Buffalo nickels, Roosevelt dimes, and a scattering of Lincolns...but in the corner of his table I spotted a lone Barber. It was laid out bare on a table (no presentation cabinet) and I immediately recognized that it had potential...but didn't have much cash on me so I quickly departed the facility, ran to the ATM, and went back to the coin show. I found the dealer but he was all packed up...after some amount of pleading (whining I guess) he reluctantly searched through his brief case for the coin...wasn't even in a holder...kept it in a tube with some other defiled Barbers. With a smirk he tossed it on the table and I threw down two $50 dollar bills and left the building with a content smile on my face. I was delighted with the purchase...but disappointed when the grade came back from PCGS. With you comments and expert knowledge, I think I'll resubmit for a regrade...you never know, it might come back as an XF-45. As for the old gentleman, I've been back there once or twice but he's not been back...the other sellers/dealers I talked to don't recall him or know him...wonder if it was just a fluke?
Dave, very nice 1909, no matter what grade assigned by PCGS. And great story about the find! That had to be a lot of fun and quite a rush, heading out to the ATM and all

Ok, this is a coin I sold. It was my favorite VG10 and I regret selling it. If you know the whereabouts of this coin, do the decent thing and sell it back to me.
This is a coin (the only one) that I bought off of AMAZON.com auctions. Does anybody remember that venue? I searched it for a couple of years faithfully, always frustrated. This coin I actually bought sight unseen. It is the ONLY coin I bought from an auction venue without a pic. One of my favorite Fines.
Here are the only two coins found and bought from Yahoo auctions over five years of looking.
It is great to see you posting again and that archaic scanner of yours is working LOL. Beautiful coins as always, I'm sure worth all the hours spent scouring those old venues. Amazon apparently was before my time, but I used to check Yahoo auctions occasionally, never finding a Barber half though.
It wasn't me who got your VG10---I got the F15 .
Are you staying with the VG10 project to completion this time? What 's this number 3 or 4? That will be a site to behold, hope you can scan them in the album when you're finished. For goodness' sake, don't bail out and dump them on ebaY.

PS nice 15s VF20, adamlaneus

It's raw, but it looks original. Would it be worth submitting?

As looking at the shelf-doubled mint mark it's a 1903-O/O variety.

Picture is a little too gold and not enough green ... but pretty close
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
