Does anyone know any details of why Willie McCovey has 152 PSA 9s and 46 PSA 10s from this set? Those numbers are way out of proportion with this very poorly centered set. Maybe a big vending find? Maybe a submission someone has firsthand knowledge about? Just thought it would make for interesting reading if anyone knew why.

PS - Just for laughs I pulled out my mint raw set, and wouldn't you know that my McCovey is very sharp and centered 50/50 both ways. image

Could use thread-assistance building my 1976 Registry set. I want to start by purchasing large lots of PSA 9 commons. (I have only about 20 cards from the set, all HOF's, team cards and stars.)

If you can help, buzz me!

    Thanks,

    Nick

PSA 9 George Brett (not mine!) just went up. 1 of 5 according to pop report. Not crazy about the centering but I'm sure it will still bring rightous bucks.

Great cards, this is the first pack of cards I ever received. I was nine years old in 1976, fell off my bike and had to have stitches in my knee and the neighbor whose yard I fell in bought be a 1976 cello pack. A love afair with these cards started right there. For me , these are great looking cards but also have major sentimental value to me as well.

I am seriously considering selling my set. I have not added to it significantly in some time. I believe I've lost interest. I'm not sure what I want to switch to, but I may be at the end of the line on this one. I would most likely just continue the pursuit of my Pirates collection.

    My 1976 set

    Any suggestions?

This thread has really fallen. That is surprising given the current ebay activity in this set. The set I'm posting is not graded, but I think the folks reading this thread will appreciate it.

I am making an attempt to sell my '76 set. Here is a link.

I am certainly not trying to pimp it here. Most of you already have much nicer sets. I did think you would be interested to see if the set gets any attention outside of the collectors in this thread.

Is that the same set from your post earlier this month? If so, how did you get them graded so quickly?

No. That is the graded set I have been working on for a few years. I don't have the heart to break up the other set.

since you go through this much trouble anyway, why don't you upload these pics into your Registry sets too?

I'll give you a free bump.

I have not been active in building my set. I haven't even been watching the registry for several months, so when i log to the registry today, and see that i have been bumped up in rank to 24th (yes, i know, cannon fodder in compairson) i was saddened.....

I loved looking at your set on the registry Bob, sorry to see it go. It was a great set! I actually own a few of your discarded cards that you upgraded. Unfortunatly i wont be upgrading this set anytime soon due to life situations. But i will watch your auctions ( with a serious woody mind you )!

    Good luck, Stozy image

Hopefully some more to come, I have been really wanting to start this set and thought that doing an all PSA 9 set would be impossible, but after looking at some of the PSA 8s in other sets I think having PSA 9s and 8s will just be fine with me.

It still needs some work. Once I'm satisifed with it, I'll post some scans (it's only about EXMT-NRMT at best, and there's still a few less). Of course, if anyone has a good sized lot or near set of NRMT/MT raw 1976's (no Eck/Ryan). It'd sure help. image I sure hope that guy (fellow forum member) with a near 1979 set from a rack case is as PSA 8-9 range as he says it is. See my 1978 set is super sharp and it'd be awesome to get 1979 up to similar quality. Those late 1970s sets are awesome and I appreciate that they're still relatively affordable (though $200 is still a lot of money in our household).
