stingray, I sent ya a PM regarding what I need in order to upgrade my set. I know I swore off PSA cards but after I just ordered this really sweet 1975 near set (11 cards short) loaded with PSA 7's, I decided I want to get the key cards for my 1976 in PSA 7 also (the ones that book for $15+ in the Beckett Almanac):

    019 George Brett
    098 Dennis Eckersley RC
    240 Pete Rose
    330 Nolan Ryan
    550 Hank Aaron
    ---------------------------
    001 Hank Aaron RB
    316 Robin Yount
    345 Babe Ruth ATG
    480 Mike Schmidt

If anyone has any spare PSA 7 NQ's of the above and/or a very nice NRMT/MT raw near set (including and especially the Traded set) or lot (for some reason most of the ones I see on Ebay have soft/dinged corners), please send me a PM. 1975 may be my favorite 1970's set, but I'd say 1976 is a close second. image

I have a question for the 76 collectors, I was looking at some auctions on Ebay and notice a player with the designation of Designated Hitter on the card with a picture of a guy batting on the bottom left of the card. I was wondering how many players actually have this as there position listing in the 76 set??

Alright, had to get this back to the first page. Wanted to find out if anyone on this boards has the Ebay IDs of sufferjet and lafyette (sp??). I see that these two are bidding on some 76s. Since I am just starting this set I am not too picky on what I need so if there is something that you need bad, I don't want to be the one to bid it up. Well I made it to #40 (tied), with just around 6% completed.

I just sold some 1976 PSA 9s to both IDs, in February!

lafayette43 is Danny from Berryville, VA

    and

sufferjet is Gary from Amsterdam, NY

    Do I know them? image

    No!

Good to here from you rbdjr1, miss your posts here and on the other forums!! I am not in anyspot to get into a bidding war so let them go at it. Too many holes to fill to worry about that at this point. But collecting this set has brought back some great memories.

Hate to see this thread drop so far down!! Well I am currently at 39 spot on the registery. Actually don't care where I finish as long as I just finish the set. How is everyone else doing??

So there is only 3 of these in 9's. Have any hit the open market, if so what have they sold for. This is such a sweet card. Might be my new second favorite card behind the 75 Topps Blyleven.

Only 1 public sale of a Briggs in PSA 9 in the last 18 months:

    6/6/07 eBay $224.50

For those of you who have some nice 76s laying around, you may want to look at this "common". I would look at my 2 sets, but if I found a nice one I would be compelled to renew my PSA membership.
  • Options
Wow, you would think some more people would be looking for Briggs to graded. May have to find that in an 8. Will have to check for pop on that one.

8s sell for $10 and under on the Briggs card.

Thanks for info gameusedhoop. So nice seeing Meigray getting into the NBA. I wish they got some more MLB teams working with them. I guess I'll settle for 8 on Briggs, if I see one show up on the bay for a cheap price. I see burbanksportscards has 50 raw one's on ebay. Maybe someone will take a chance and buy them all up for a quarter a piece hoping for a 9 in that lot.

Yeah, that would be interesting to see where the price would end up on Briggs 8.5. So they guy that started this thread and posted his Briggs 9. Has that one changed owners since this thread started?

RBJR1 still has the #1 all-time set, but I thought he had sold it off piece by piece on Ebay? I know I have seen him selling a bunch of PSA 10s Ebay, though not sure about the Briggs card.

All Time Finest sets can be retired, and many do not exsist anymore because they have been broken up. Many are mostly the same set, passed from member to member with a few additions along the way. The Current Finest list under the all time finest is more telling of what is really out there. The same 1 of 1 card can show up in the 5 top all time sets if they are all retired and had different owners at different times, but that same 1 of 1 can only be in one current set not counting team and player sets of course.

Thanks, Man does 4SC have a bunch of PSA 10s on Ebay, though the starting price seems a little steep. Unless they are a low pop I just don't see them getting their starting price on them!? Man really wanted the Solaita card, but it got out of my price range, that is one sweet looking card!!

They must have made a mistake though with the Ecks card starting bidding at $1.00, though now that I see they have a reserve on it, must be wanting to see how high the bidding really will go for that card??

I had a snipe on the Solaita card but just got a notice that it was beyond my bid. Oh well...

4SC started their little "reserve" game starting stuff off at $1 a few months ago. From what I see is that most of it does not sell at the reserve so step two is knock down the reserve. When no sale occurs at this time they put a high price no reserve on it in week three. When they still don't get a buyer they knock down the price and leave the price from week three as the BIN. This goes on for a couple more weeks until they find someone that just has to have it or it goes at the market rate.

This whole process makes little sense to me. They have enough of a following on E-Bay that their items will seldom if ever go for a outrageously low price.

See that 4SC has just put up a bunch of 1976s cards on Ebay. Why can't they just use one store to sell these cards, some are being sold through 4SC Store and others at 4SC Baseball.

Wow that Carew got jacked way up in price. Almost double what the last 9 sold for. The Briggs 8 looked like a sweet card as well. That one also went for a decent price. I definitley see that one getting cracked for a shot at an upgrade. Both went for more than I was willing to go.

I think from what I have seen on the OPC cards some have rough cuts, but not on all sides and some do not have any at all, I am sure RBJR1 would know for sure.

Was bidding on a card with a Pop of 7 (Huhges #11) ended up going for over $70!!

In the case of 11 and 327, likely re occurrng printing error. 344 appears to be a back varition. 627 is likely a front recurring print defect. The Jacksom appears to be a front variation...different uniform colors

I have never heard of such variations discussed before?? What is the color changes on the Jackson uniform?? Are these cards you have graded or raw?? I take it these are not recognized by PSA, because there is no 1976 Master Set on the registery.

I started collecting in 1957. I have all Topps sets 1948, and 1951 ( all 5) through to date. Plus all insert sets and most test sets, such as the 68 3Ds. I have been doing variations for about 10 years. Most variations are recurring print defects, like the Herrer ( 58) and Bakep ( 57), but some are actual changes made by Topps, eg, the 59 Spahn DOBs and the trade/optioned cards.

If you give me a shipping address, I will send you color copies of the Jackson, or any of the others you want to see. I have variations for each Topps set. I started with the SCD Catalog as a list, then went to Dick Gilkeson's expanded book on variations ( arichter@swbell.net).

I would be interested in seeing the Jackson variations. If you get the chance, perhaps you can scan the two cards? Very interesting.

Stingray did you get those Briggs raw lot cards? If so what kind of shape were they in, any 8 or 9's in the mix?
