~"I quess Clement got hurt in a rehab assignment? Anybody got any info?"~
From the Boston Globe:
Clement hit again Hard as it may be to believe, Matt Clement was hit yet again by a line drive, this time in a rehab appearance with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla., yesterday morning. Clement was hit on the foot, in the first inning. He pitched through that, went back out for the second inning, threw two warmup pitches, and walked off the mound with biceps soreness, the same problem that has limited him to two starts since May 29 and none since June 14.
Clement, who was scheduled to throw 45-50 pitches, got in just 17 in his one inning of work under the watchful eyes of general manager GM Theo Epstein and assistant trainer Mike Reinold.
``Kind of mixed reviews on the one inning," Francona said. ``He was 86-87-88 [miles per hour]."
Francona had penciled Clement in to make three rehab starts and rejoin the rotation, if able, July 19 vs. Kansas City.
``I don't know if that's realistic now," Francona said.
The plan?
``Get him back here and on the strength program and see where we're at," Francona said. ``I don't think he was alarmed. I still think he felt he made process. I just think what it did is it maybe slowed down the progression. He'll be looked at [today] and we'll know a lot more about what the progression is."
RIM, I would trade all of those guys for Bronson Arroyo - or Derek Lowe, at the moment...
I like the current starting 4 (Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Lester) but number 5 is the problem (Jason Johnson? We'll see tonight). Other than that, I really can't complain much about the current state of the Sox.
The current state of the Sox is GREAT! We are in first and the 5th starter is a problem- no big deal as Im not sure any team in the league can boast of having one through five starters all ACES, tuff seies against the D-Rays but we will move on just fine.
I would be embarresed about that D-Rays series, now Im Pi-sed! Freakin Crawford stealing home? We were due for a bad run and Im ok with that, but lets bounce back!

Time to find another 5th starter.
Johnson is just not cutting it -- gotta be someone from AAA better than him, or give Delcarmen a shot at starting.
It was good for a win, but I have a question (I didn't see the game).
Final score was 12-5, and the sox scored 6 in the 9th. Why did ESPN say that Ortiz' HR helped the Sox avoid being swept? If he hadn't hit it, wouldn't they still have won the game?
Schilling goes today - and they are coming back with Lester right after the break to give Wakefield a few extra days rest for his back. Not a bad first half showing, let's keep it going after the break.
Oh, and David Ortiz hit another HR yesterday. What else is new?
Very tough loss heading into the break. Losing a 3-2 lead in the ninth and than a 5-3 lead in the 11th. I suppose if you are going to play a 19 inning game a good day to do it is the day before the all-star break where all of the pitchers are going to be getting a rest. It certainly was a tough day on some of the hitters, Nixon was 0 for 9 and Tek was 0 for 8. So they lead the Yanks by 3 and the Jays by 5. Did anyone watch all 19 innings today? Is Schilling okay? He was pulled after 6 innings and only 86 pitches.

Schilling got hit by a hard line drive (Thome hit it) in the sixth inning. It looked like the ball hit him on his pitching elbow, but after a short stoppage to make sure he was okay, he stayed in the game and was able to get out of a jam and finish the inning strong. He left with a 3-2 lead, and it seemed like his day ended after that inning for precautionary reasons.

The Tigers did not push hard to resign him for a reason, and remember, they were not supposed to do anything this year either!!!
Got to win tonight. We just cant let those Yanks take over the division lead, I know they made up a few games but lets get back on track and play some good baseball!
Thats what Im talking about! Our ace comes in and just controls the game allowing 2 hits, good job by all. 1.5 over the Yanks.......time to start another win streak!
Yea Im really not going to be happy unless they grab this series by the balls and get back on track. You got to crush the weak teams, thats a mark of a great team.

Hmmm, like how the Sox crushed the D-Rays recently?

That Kazmir trade sounds a bit too lopsided for TB lol

<< <i>Manny not suiting up for the All-Star game, resting a sore leg? This is the 3rd time he has sat out due to a sore leg. >>
The other two times it was Manny's hammy.

<< <i>Back on track! Nice way to wrap up this awful series with a 12 run explosion. Wakefield gets the win which is nice. >>
A Grand Slam and 6 RBI for Papi. Just another day at the office!!

Yeah nice game. I revel in Yankee and Red Sox inadequacies.
So they lead the Yanks by 3 and the Jays by 5.

<< <i>GO YANKS OH YEAH THANKS FOR JOHNNY DAMON . ITS THE NEW CURSE >>
