    << <i>

<< <i>having Wells, Clement, and Foulke on the DL >>

I'm not at all disappointed with that! If none ever throws a pitch again in a Red Sox uniform, I wouldn't mind. >>

I wholeheartedly agree. Let the kids pitch!!
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
I still say Clement can be effective if and when he gets back to form, as far as Foulk goes im not really sure if its possible, Wells is done IMO. Let the kids pitch as long as they play at the level we need them to, if not I want another starter to come aboard for the division race though.

who are you willing to give up (prospects) to get someone for two months (like Zito)? Personally, I don't think it is wise to give up any of the better prospects (the only ones others will want!) unless the Sox can sign someone like Zito to at least a one year extension, preferably two to three.

Nice work by Beckett last night -- 7 in a row now!! image

The "hitting savant" had 2 hrs and 5 RBIs as well!!
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Beckett threw his best game of the year last night. That's the guy I thought we were getting when we signed him.

Best part of last night's game for me was seeing Gabe Kapler hit that 3 run HR. He deserved the curtain call for coming back the way that he did.

Ortiz hits a walk-off 2R HR, sound familiar?
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ortiz is Mr.October but all year round, he is such a joy to watch him hitting those "Clutch" hr's. Barndog I would be willing to sell some of the farm for Zito but like you said only if it is for 2-3 seasons. Dontrelle Willis who Im not sure will be available would be my top choice.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
I had to work during Becketts performance the other night and I am happy to see him back to form. I hope he can keep it up, 7 + innings of work does a ballclub good...image
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I'm not so sure I would give up much for Zito. The young arms the Sox have currently are filled with potential, I would hate to see a Scott Kazmir type trade happen (though I know Theo is too smart for that). If they could assure signing Zito for 3 years minimum, I might consider giving up a prospect or two, but Lester, Papelbon and Hansen are all untouchable IMO.

<< <i>Lester, Papelbon and Hansen are all untouchable IMO. >>

No argument here. I think those three are 40% of the rotation and the closer next year...if Hansen figures things out.

I am pretty happy with the sox this season. Offense is picking it up now that they are back home. They had played the fewest home games and they are great at fenway. The defense is better than any I have seen in my lifetime. The young arms are looking good. People are even talking about Dan the Duke in a positive light after some time has pasted.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
Wow, a fantastic pitching duel today is turning into a one-sided game. Sox scored six in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-0. Nixon made two of the outs in the inning. That has to suck.

Edit to add: I should know better...Phila just scored one and has the bases loaded with none out.
  • Brian48Brian48 Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭
Wow. It looks like Seanez and lopez were on the verge blowing another game for Wakefield. Why am I not surprised. Let's see if Papelbon and close off the bleeding.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Utley just ruined that
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
on the bright side, the game is lasting so long that I made it home in time to watch it end

why do I lack confidence when the Sox have the bases loaded with one out yet KNOW the other team will score with a man on third and two outs?

Easy, ur not one of those "we won the world series" fans. You are more like a "repeat of 1986, and every other year, except the series win" type of fan
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Papifest was prophetic.

I think my confidence or lack thereof is based on experience.
  • Brian48Brian48 Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭
Big Papi comes through (again). Too bad about Wakefield not getting the win (again).
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
BIG PAPA! Thats really all you have to say. I was dissapointed that Wakefield didn't get the win as well, great outing by him.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I couldn't watch much of the game today - but I checked in to see a 6-0 Sox lead. Then, I see we win 8-7, thanks again to Big Papi. The bullpen not holding the lead for Wakefield is disappointing, but its still 9 in a row.

    ...and we are up 8-2
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
Good job by all , 10 in a row, love to have a lead at the break. Up 5 on the Jays is a good thing.
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I agree - I think the Jays will be right there in the second half, so let's build the lead on them now. Great game tonight - despite all that he has said, I was happy to see Pedro get a standing ovation tonight.

Now, we can let him have it Wednesday night.

I definately will always love Pedro, he was a GREAT Red Sox player. I wish him the absolute best, Except when he faces Beckett, I hope he gets crushed.....
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I'm getting excited about the matchup tonight.

Will it ever stop F--king raining? Probably not happening tonight. Supposed to rain the rest of the week as well, the only good thing about it is we can rest a bit I quess.
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
The sun is creeping out a bit so it looks like it will be on! Watching Sportcenter and they are talking about how Pedro needs to shake his sentimental feelings aside and bare down on the Sox hitters, RIDICULAS. Pedro is a gamer and wants nothing more but to mow us down, love the guy but not tonight! Hopefully Beckett has another outing like his last one.
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
Here here Perk!! Sun is creepin out now 6:56 pm!
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
Cant say I expected that from Pedro.....Beckett looking sharp.
  • ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,868 ✭✭✭✭✭
Actually, it was kind of sad to see Pedro get lit up like that. I guess his hip was bothering him, but he just did not seem "into" it either.

  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Wow - Pedro is famous for giving up first inning runs, but I thought he would settle in after that. He really must have disappointed the Mets fans tonight.
    image
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
Bottom line is.....screw that! Im glad Pedro got lit up by the SOX. Like I said, I love Pedro but that goes out the door when he suit's up against us.
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
Let's keep it going til the break!
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
Absolutly lets keep it going! The freakin Yanks unfortunately are cabable of cracking off 20 in a row so we will need to keep this rampage on!!!!
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Schilling tonight for the sweep - let's hope the rain holds out yet again.

The brooms were out and the Sox put the Mets to rest in the dust pan.

    12 wins in a row

16 consecutive errorless games and solid pitching

14 - 1 against the NL, that's awesome, of course there are other AL teams kicking the hell out of the NL: Detroit 13-2; White Sox 13-2
  • softparadesoftparade Posts: 9,276 ✭✭✭✭✭
The Sox are hot to trot baby! I just hope they come down to earth and SOON ! image

Any doubters about Coco Crisp, see last night's 8th inning. Both halves...

The pitching and defense have been great during this winning streak. I hope the Mets are pissed off enough now to play some good baseball this weekend!

<< <i> I hope the Mets are pissed off enough now to play some good baseball this weekend! >>

I'm with you on that. I really don't know who the Mets play next, but they are a bunch of fine human beings and I hope they win three or four straight games, just to help lift their spirits.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
How about the American league just flat out dominated the National league. Very impressed with the sweep of the Mets. More so than if we swept the Yanks at Fenway.
  • RipublicaninMassRipublicaninMass Posts: 10,051 ✭✭✭
Why cant Papi win every game, why???
  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
I keep thinking the same thing, I think because he might be human? Not sure though.............Even if that ball went over the wall last night they still would have been down 1 but it would have been interesting. Playing great D lets keep that streak going.
