I just heard from our old friend, Tony (fiveniner), that he is getting back to collecting 1959 Topps baseball again. What a wonderful bit of news. In honor of Tony, I thought that I would update this thread with two recent pickups for my set.

Great Banks Don, my favorite card of his. George Vrechek has written about a 59 Banks with a blue versus green background ( similar to the blue versus green 58 Aaron).Just a color print defect but would be a neat find. I have seen several of the Aaron's but never a Banks.

OMG Don where do u find these gems?I just had 15 graded they were mostly 6 & 7s however I am happy just the same.Have all 3 Sullivan Variation and a Hanebrink no trade which I think will grade a 6 or 7 which came with the collection I bought.

There maybe more than 3 Sullivans . There are the 3 back copyright differences ( the one w/o the period being the toughest) and there is a front difference on some cards, a brown box in the lower left near the logo. Cards without it are more scarce. Question is whether the box differences occur on all 3 of the back differences, or just some image

Tony, it is great to see you back into your 1959 Topps collecting again. Congrats on your Sullivans and Hanebrink cards.

Al, you are a true expert on variations....I am always amazed.

  • My fav card in this set is the Mantle All Star. For some reason, it has always fascinated me! It's a great pic, and I love the design!
  • A couple of new additions as I work towards completing the set. These scans make the cards appear much more washed out than they are in person. I'm really happy with them both - been trying to find a nice Killebrew for a loooong time!

Hey fellow 59 collectors I am looking for a 59 Warren Spahn born 1931 with a clear 3 any condition as long as the is no paper loss, writing or tears lets say at least VG raw or graded.

    I agree, Tony!

This is a common that I recently picked up...the reason is because the color and gloss plus centering makes this one an incredible card.

That card reminds me of when us kids back in 1959 would spit and tear up certain player cards and Jimmy Constable was one of them.It appeared that he would pop in everyones pak.Warren Giles was a bummer card to as well as George Anderson later known as Sparky.Man was that one heck of an ugly card or getting a card of a tiger that was no longer a tigerv like francona,doby,hoeft,alverez.susce.

by the way Don the constable is sweet.
