I know this postcard of Columbia Park (as was the baker bowl) posted before on this thread, but I was pretty happy to finally pick this one up recently. I had to forgo on a few other postcards (such as a few of the redbelts, one that was about the 1907? tiger/cubs world series with a tiger in a coffin, and a few others) since this one had been on my list for some time now and it was top's on my list.
I picked this up a little while ago while in Japan. It roughly translates "Young Men's Christian Association of Japan in Kanda, Tokyo visited the allied armies and watched the soldier's playing basketball together." Depending on the translation of the word "allies" likely from the late 1930s or mid 1940s. I have no knowledge of the history of basketball in Japan, but I imagine basketball wasn't mainstream at that time period in Japan as it was in the US.
These are so hard to obtain in high grade. The size always makes it more susceptible to corner and edge damage. But I like 'em.
PSA returned this one as 'Not Enough Info', but I wish they'd grade it. It's clearly Garvey. Guess they just didn't have enough information on this issue.
Wish Psa would grade the McCarthy cards ! Very nice collection of Garvey cards !
I was always impressed with Garvey' s " Popeye " arms ! I wonder if he still has a chance to get into the Hall
of Fame someday ???

This was a nice thread... bringing it back to the top for your viewing pleasure.
Sorry..looking thru the thread I didn't realize how many scans were gone due to Photobucket changing their access awhile ago.
Regardless, it is still one of the most visually entertaining threads on the board. Thank you for bumping it.
Hiya Claude
I remember when Tom started this thread.
Nice bump and yes - too bad what photo bucket did.
I have hundreds of postcards. Unfortunately, none are baseball or sports related.

The only postcard in my collection. My favorite player when I was a kid.
Cool Bench postcard for his restaurant.
Recently picked up this Jim Thorpe Rookie. This is part of a 114 card collection of US Olympic Hall of Fame Rookies.
Love that Thorpe!
