  • JEFF !!!!!!!

Finally. Everyone, Please welcome Jeff to the Board. I had talked, and texted, and Emailed with Jeff for quite a while before he finally made his first ( of many, I hope ) appearance in Canton for HOF weekend. Jeff will be a GREAT addition to this thread. Besides collecting Football HOF autographs, Jeff has REALLY cool, 100% complete autograph collection of something that is of historical importance. But, I will wait for him to tell you all about it. Just over 6 months till HOF weekend Jeff. Hope to see you then.image

Not sure who else contacted the Moderator, but within 30 minutes I got a response and Peace and Love is now "poofed". Of course, he contacted me again through Ebay even though I blocked him there and reported him for harassment. He also attached the photo taken at Rocke's house this summer to that email. Guess we'll be looking over our shoulder at Canton this year.....Rocke, been trying to call you.....
  • Welcome Jeff! Look forward to your posts and seeing your collection - Mike Moran
  • Hi Jeff !
Welcome to the most informative, supportive forum for this paticular hobby ! Looking forward to your input and hearing about your collection (s). I'm afraid I can't help you with your missing GLA cards, but at least you have Dr. Dan already, so that helps.
It's kind of cool to have another collector come aboard who seems perfectly normal after this recent out-of-the-blue-craziness with Joes boyfriend !
JK Joe image - Thanks for getting rid of that clown

Wow, not exactly sure what happened here but we all know Rocke is a stand-up guy and I am happy to call him a friend. I am glad the troll has been banded. What is his ebay name so I can block him. (PM me if you would rather go that route)

I wonder if someone can contact the mods and have his comments deleted. They are disgusting and have no place here.

    His Ebay ID is "shalerreject24"
Hey Chris, my "boyfriend" sent me an email through Ebay and attached the photo of the "gang" gathered at Rocke's last summer......should we be worried. Also, even though he was banned from posting, can he monitor the comments?
Jeff nice to hear from you!
  • Yes, monitering this forum is open to anyone as far as I know.
    And PM sent Joe.

  • LOL!!!! Right, wrong Mara, LOL!!!

The interesting autograph for me in this picture is that it also includes Len Eshmont, he was drafted by the Giants in 1941 (5th round 36th overall) and only played 1 season for them, then he was hired by the 49ers in 1946 their initial season in the AAFL and played until 1949.
Among other things he scored the 49ers 1st. TD, it was a pass from Frankie Albert to John Strzykalski who then lateraled to Eshmont for a 66 yard touchdown against the New York Yankees.
He died in 1957 and the 49ers most prestigious award has his name.

Still 3,995 is a little pricey, don't you think.

Be-collectibles also on eBay has Giants team pictures from 1950, 1951 and 1955 for a lower price if you are interested, the also have Owens, Landry, Connerly, Tunnell, and the 1955 has, sadly the same Mara, LOL!!!

Great Super Bowl week for everyone!!!!
Sadly my team came short, but it was a great Championship game!!!!!
  • I sold this photo about two years ago for $1,200 or a little more, I don't remember - I bought it primarily for Lummus but have since been able to find other examples

    image
  • Rev, that is even better than the one on eBay!!!

Well, I am still looking for a Len Eshmont, so if anyone knows about an affordable one or a nice pic like the one Rev sold let me know LOL!!!
Last Eshmont sold on eBay last November, was a PSA slabbed and authenticated cut wich was sold for $200.
Two bad I did not saw it!!! LOL!!!

Hey Guys, what do you mean "wrong Mara"? Its clearly Wellington, never said it was Tim.
  • LOL!!!!
You are right, I think that for that price we all tough it could have been Tim, LOL!!!!

In a new topic, I'm looking for input into Bill Walsh 8 x 10s. The one I sent TTM years before his death was flunked by JSA and PSA. Then a nice color photo I bought on Ebay that the seller supposedly got TTM flunked JSA. Bought photos looked comparable to the authenticated stuff I've see. What am I missing?
  • This is my 8x10 PSA authenticated Bill Walsh, Sorry about the resolution, but I hope it helps!!!

  • Congratulations Rev. Mike, on picking up your THIRD Tim Mara autograph. Wish I had seen this item. I am still trying to figure out how to pay for my FIRST Mara.

That is OBVIOUSLY Tim Mara, the Original owner and HOFer. How do I know ???? The program is from 1933. Tim Mara, the nephew, died at age 59 in 1995. You do the math.

Congratulations. If you want to bring this one, or the letter of recommendation for your Father to my home sometime when you come to visit, and then accidentaly leave it here, Please.....FEEL FREE.

Congrats Mike. Now....When are you coming to visit ?????

  • Rev Mike -Oh. My.
Very, very nice addition to your collection . That is a pretty sweet (and personal ) way to begin the year. None of my business, but was this a private sale / trade? I would hate to think it ws on an auction somewhere and I mised 1.) the chance to let you know about it and .2) the chance to give it a nice home ! Don't listen to Rocke - he has PLENTY of nice stuff - come on over to my place !!image
Congrats. Three Mara's is just ....museum worthy ! I'm guessing it's not even your favorite sig though...maybe third? Beautiful shape.
You and Mark are always good for just dropping in with these amazing pieces !

So nice way to start the new year ~ anybody have any favorites from their 2013 they want to share ?

My personal observations on Bill Walsh's sigs. I met Coach once in the mid 80's at training camp. It was very informal then in Rocklin and he signed a 7-11 card for me. There were no Coach cards at the time for any of those guys -and he personalized it with a - after my name. When I wrote to him for a TTM card a few years later he did the same on a TC and also again on a 8x10 " Chris - Very Best Wishes Bill Walsh ". I haven't had any PSA'd , but they are too similar to be secratarial. Unless it was a sanctioned event I think there was a lot of personalizing . I don't know that this has anything to do with it at all. His Signature is pretty bold and identifiable, though.
  • Oh, Right. Up aginst it now!
My HOF predictions - here and official as will be posted on Jim's site !
Claude Humphrey - you just don't get nommed by the Vets twice in 5 (?) years and not get in. Honestly, who would do that?
Walter Jones- easiest T pick since Munoz
Andre Reed - the whole WR issue being addressed. Its a coin flip between him and Harrison. Timmy belongs but should make a better
case for himself and not call out his former coach. Unseemly. ( I'm on your side raiderguy, believe me )
Will Shields- not a sexy pick, but a deserving one
Bettis - sexy pick. Hey, theres no QB's ! Unless of course TWO WR go in...
Derrick Brooks - its him or Strahan. Brooks had arguably the better career and has been everywhere lately...he's stumping.

And for the love of all that is holy..Ray Guy !

I didn't pick Haley or Mr. D, so I clearly am not betting the home team.
There it is. Jim just send me my LeBeau . And upgrade that to a GLA for me will ya? Thanks pal ! image

the program was a "buy it now" on eBay - I think the listing was up for 12 hours before I saw it and two people had already made "best offers" -

edited to add - I spoke with the seller who has some other very nice early NFL material on eBay - some signed and some not - and he told me it all came from the estate of Max Krause, one of the Giants players in 1933

Chris, Dick Stanfel was a Vet nominated candidate twice and did not get in. Also, not so sure Brooks was better than Strahan......
  • raiderguy10raiderguy10 Posts: 2,121 ✭✭✭
Wasn't Marshall Goldberg a Sr Nominee twice as well? To be honest, my thought process is if you were a Sr Nominee once and were turned down then you shouldn't be able to have a second go round. I never understood that philosophy. You need 80% of the vote at that points against no one else....if you didn't make it at that point I'm not sure why you get another chance.

How does it work - does each member of the committee get a set number of votes? If that were the case and say Goldberg lost out to Friedman one year, the next year no one would be using a vote for Friedman and could swing their vote to Goldberg -

But back to my program - if you notice below Badgro there is an autograph that is hard to decipher. I couldn't figure it out. Then I saw this photo in a Giants book and there is a man named Joe Carroll in the front row extreme right in a suit and tie. I don't know what his role with the team was or if he was there in 1933 but I think if not a prime suspect at this point he's at least a person of interest - anybody know anything about him?

senior nominees are voted on separately. no other votes sway what happens to them. they just need 80% yes

There have been SIX instances of the same person being a SENIOR nominee TWICE.
Henry Jordan. Nominated in 1989, Voted thumbs down for election. 1995, Voted IN to the HOF.
Lou Creekmur. Nominated in 1980, Voted thumbs down for election. 1996, Voted IN to the HOF.
Marshall Goldberg. Nominated in 1979, Voted thumbs down for election. Nominated in 2008, voted thumbs down again.
Bob Hayes. Nominated in 2004, Voted thumbs down for election. 2009, Voted IN to the HOF.
Dick Stanfel. Nominated in 1993, Voted thumbs down for election. Nominated in 2012, voted thumbs down again.
Claude Humphrey. Nominated in 2009, Voted thumbs down for election. 2014, We will find out tomorrow.

So, not counting Claude, the previous five, TWO TIME nominees, THREE got in on their 2nd try, and TWO got turned down a 2nd time.
My opinion, I don't think Goldberg even deserved to be a ONE time Senior nominee, let alone twice. Marshall was 2nd Team ALL-PRO ONE time. That's it !!!! How he has been nominated TWICE, while Randy Gradishar, and Al Wistert, are still waiting, just totally baffles me. However, I think that Stanfel should have been elected into the Hall. He only played seven years, but went to FIVE Pro Bowls, and was ALL-DECADE in the 1950's.
No one has been a Senior nominee three times.

Joe Carroll was a 'clubhouse boy' in 1937 with the N.Y. Giants. Not sure if that is his autograph or if he was with the team in 1933. I'll keep checking. He was giving a quarter share of the pot received for the championship that year along with Gus Mauch, Charlie Porter (trainers), Fred Logan (clubhouse attendant), Henry Fabian (groundkeeper), and Dr. Francis Sweeney (team dr.). Porter & Sweeney are on the program so it is a possibility.

I saw an article that he was still alive in 1954. He was called 'former maître de clubhouse' for the Giants. He went to visit Bobby Thomson in the hospital when he was hurt during spring training so he probably worked with the NY Giants baseball team as well.

It's supposed to be on Fox @ 8:00pm. They are milking it for what it's worth. There will be segments of the camera in the selection room on the NFL Network starting @11:00am. They are turning this whole thing into a circus more and more every year. Just make an announcement on the radio at noon and be done with it.

Love the Colts helmet! I hope you can find it again.

As a Colts fan I'm rooting for Marvin to get in today. We in Indy had the pleasure of watching him for 13 years. He was a true class act and I really hope he gets the support need to get in the Hall this year.
