Wow, what an insane steal! Now I have to go and bang my head on a wall for missing out on your Thorpe book and Zack's Pollard in one week. Congrats on the amazing pickup.
Mark Yup- that camera phone shadow on the right sure does detract from that Thorpe! Still, I can beat Raiderguy's offer..THIRTY american dollars AND....a Jamarcus RC !! Unheard of pickup ! Way to go . Very nice
I went looking because my concern about the book Mark bought was that I thought I'd seen it before - but if you were going to scam a Jim Thorpe autograph why sell it for $20 as Jim Moore so that idea never really made sense. My impression is that Abe Books like Albris and others is just a listing service - but if the seller had done any homework at all he would have realized that copies signed by the author go for $120+++ and would have seen that the "me too" inscription came from Thorpe. I've used AddAll.com in searching for signed books and have had some luck finding lower priced autographs, but never hit the jackpot like Mark did with that buy -
You're right Rev...abebooks is just a listing service for book dealers around the world. The seller just didn't do any research regarding the book. I actually have to agree with the seller (and my wife)...Thorpe's signature looks like "Jim Moore". I can see how someone could make that mistake. He also had the author's name spelled wrong too. I just got lucky this time.
Picked up a copy of Fabulous Redmen from abebooks last week for $20. It was listed as being signed by the author and " a Jim Moore". I looked at the scan of my Thorpe and could see how someone unfamiliar with football autographs would make such a mistake. Couldn't go wrong for that price so i quickly snatched it up. Just got it in the mail today. What do you guys think?
Cheers!
Mark >>
What do I think ???? Well, I guess I could say I'm going to be sick. I guess I could say Congratulations. I guess I could say something like, to steal from Jim Rome..." You REALLY got over". I'm not sure what WAS the 2nd biggest "steal" that anyone from this thread has ever pulled off, but I would make a motion that what WAS # 2, is NOW # 3, and Mark has moved into the # 2 spot. Don't know if anyone has heard from Bart about what he picked up for .99 a few year ago, but, when he sold it in an RRAuction, I paid about $850.00 for it. Come to think of it, I think that this IS the new # 1 "steal" pick-up of all-time. Congratulations Mark. That is one AWESOME pick-up. Rocke

Raiderguy - So here are my observations. At times in the past I have purchased cards from UKRedskins - years ago. Some were fine , some had to be ...replaced. Well, since he stoped selling on ebay and operates solely through his UK web site he utilizes Google checkout. I bought one card from him and paid through paypal instead. After seeing these listed cards on ebay - apparently there are no shortages of Jimmy Patton cards out there - and seeing a a real similarity between these cards and ones available on his site , I looked up my invoice ....from a.v.i.t consultants ,ltd. Cards that were listed on his site- and are now on ebay - have been removed from his catalog or are listed as sold. an internet search shows avit as being a UK Co. - Egypt as well. I didn't see a location other than US on the sellers ebay profile so I don't know about Palm Springs ( Other than it's beautiful and has nice Golf courses- ) At any rate it seemed more than a coincidence and I wanted to let the board in on this. ps - Hall of Fame weekend! Training camp! Raiderguy you should let us call you Rai for short. That way you'd be Rai Guy !!
I am adding individual player pages to my web siteOldestLivingProFootball.com and need some help. I want to add an autograph of the player at the bottom of the page. If anyone wants to contribute an example, let me know. I can give you credit under the picture or not, your choice. I would like to start with the tougher hof players and then work on the harder "non-hof players", but really anyone will do. Drop me an email if you want to add your collectible to the site.

Alright boys! I spent all day Thursday at the show and just arrived back in Indy. I had a great time! As some of you know, I'm working on several autographed sets including 1950, 1951, 1952, 1955 Bowman sets, HOF RC Auto set, and my favorite the 1955 Topps All American Set.
Here is what I came home with:
1950 Bowman Autos Jim White X2- D. 1987 Ed Carr-D. 2011 Tommy Thompson- D. 1989 Knox Ramsey- D.2005
1951 Bowman Autos Bulldog Turner D. 1998 Ray Bray- D. 1996 Jack Lininger- D. 2002 Bob Hoernschemeyer- D. 1980
1951 Bowman Autos Sammy Baugh- D. 2008 Ed Neal- D. 1984
1952 Bowman Auto John Rapacz- D. 1991
Added a few HOF Rookie upgrades and a nice 55 Bowman Ollie Matson:
Finally found a nice Bill Dudley 1948 Bowman RC as well as replaced a bunch of 55 All Americans I sold earlier this year:
Here is my new favorite card! I could not believe that not only does it exist, but that it hadn't been sold! In my five years of working on the set, I've never seen a Four Horseman autographed card before. This one is signed by Don Miller. I am so excited and proud to add this to my collection.

Great finds, Reese - that Four Horsemen signed by Miller is a treasure - never seen one before by any of the players although they all lived long enough to sign it - congratualtions on great additions
After spending Wednesday and Thursday at the National, I drove to Canton to photograph the inductions and game. Visited the Bellaggio Poker King at his table in Belden Village for 2 days. Had lots of fun with Rocke, Rod and Blood Bank Bill. The highlight was the 2 hours we spent we Gary Thomas---what a great man!
I don't know if you guys saw or not, but I'm putting together a group submission to PSA/DNA for a $10 encapsulation in the blue flip for a declared value of $250. So if anyone has cards/index cards/cuts that can get done in a blue flip you are more than welcome to join.
Great finds at the national. It seems like the national can be either a hit or a miss when it comes to football autographs. You definitely made a hit. Love the 55 Four Horsemen autographed by Done Miller. Really cool.
I have a HUGE addition to annouce!! I just picked up my first signed 1935 Chicle card - a Dutch Clark. Please see the scan below:
As you can see, the card is in rough shape but the autograph is a solid 8+ quality. A board member approached me about a seller who had supposedly purchased the card from an 87 year old collector who obtained the card in person year ago. This is the second signed 35 Chicle Dutch Clark that I've seen - and I know of a third that supposedly exists - although I've never seen it. I'm now down to 13 - listed below.
Cliff Battles 1935 National Chicle Turk Edwards 1935 National Chicle Benny Friedman 1955 Topps AA Clarke Hinkle 1935 National Chicle Wayne Millner 1952 Bowman Small / Large Bronko Nagurski 1935 National Chicle Pete Pihos 1948 Bowman Shannon Sharpe 1990 Action Packed Update Ken Strong 1935 National Chicle Joe Stydahar 1952 Bowman Small / Large Jim Thorpe 1933 Sports Kings Steve Van Buren 1948 Leaf Bob Waterfield 1948 Leaf

That is an inspiring way to begin HOF week ! Where on earth did that come from Rocke?
Remember the end of last year when everyone commented on their great finds during said year? Well this year is going to be even better !
Oh, and by the way:
I think this is a pertinant topic for this board considering the postings in the past .
It seems UK Redskins is selling on ebay again under the seller a.v.i.t.consultants.Ltd
Whether you have had issues with the legitimacy of cards bought from CJ Dunsmore before, or have been perfectly satisfied with your purchases, I think at least you have the right to know.
Especially since on UKRedskins website he decries going through ebay as a means to selling.
Again, not judging or lauding......just making you aware.
Rocke, congrats !That is brilliant ! >>
How did you find that out? avit is listed in Palm Springs, CA. Isn't CJ in Scotland??

So here are my observations.
I didn't see a location other than US on the sellers ebay profile so I don't know about Palm Springs ( Other than it's beautiful and has nice Golf courses- )
At any rate it seemed more than a coincidence and I wanted to let the board in on this.
ps - Hall of Fame weekend!

Here is an example of what I mean

Here is my new favorite card! I could not believe that not only does it exist, but that it hadn't been sold! In my five years of working on the set, I've never seen a Four Horseman autographed card before. This one is signed by Don Miller.
I am so excited and proud to add this to my collection.

Great finds at the national. It seems like the national can be either a hit or a miss when it comes to football autographs. You definitely made a hit. Love the 55 Four Horsemen autographed by Done Miller. Really cool.

Cliff Battles 1935 National Chicle
Turk Edwards 1935 National Chicle
Benny Friedman 1955 Topps AA
Clarke Hinkle 1935 National Chicle
Wayne Millner 1952 Bowman Small / Large
Bronko Nagurski 1935 National Chicle
Pete Pihos 1948 Bowman
Shannon Sharpe 1990 Action Packed Update
Ken Strong 1935 National Chicle
Joe Stydahar 1952 Bowman Small / Large
Jim Thorpe 1933 Sports Kings
Steve Van Buren 1948 Leaf
Bob Waterfield 1948 Leaf
Thanks for looking.
