I am bidding on what hopefully will be the final piece to my Packer collection puzzle - a Lambeau autograph that Rod is selling on eBay. The extra appeal to me is that it has another former Packer signature on the piece as well - not anyone who was a big name, but an early teammate. Funny that I've purchased my 2 other 'toughies' from Rod (Herber and McNally) - makes me wonder if these are his 'cast aways' what the good stuff looks like! I'd like to upgrade my Jordan at some point to an index card from a check and my Don Huston to a blue ball point IC from black IC.
Joel >>
Joel, First of all, Congratulations on winning the Lambeau page from Rod on Ebay. I have seen it in person, and I know that you will be VERY happy with it. Rod has seen my collection, ( as you may or may not know, I am only missing three ) and Rod did recently hurt my feelings during breakfast. I asked him if he had any autographs in HIS collection, that he would trade for that persons autograph in MY collection. After thinking for a moment, he told me NO !!!! Now, granted, Anything I have that I bought from him, I understand. I have my Jim Thorpe signed " Jim Thorpe Supper Club and Casino " Business card, My Len Ford Cleveland Browns contract, My Bill Hewitt index card, and a couple others from him. Plus some of my other items I am very proud to own. BUT, his collection almost defy's description. If you are registered with Legendary Auctions, check out the April 2002 MastroNet Auction Lot # 1509. Rod's Guy Chamberlin autograph is the two page handwritten letter in Guy's handwriting, from 1966 that "chronicles" his career. I couldn't believe that Rod wouldn' take my Walt Kiesling letter on Steeler letterhead from 1940, which is on this thread back some 50 pages or so. But then I remembered Rod's Kiesling is a Team signed sheet from 1934 that, along with being signed by Kiesling, also has, George Halas, George Musso, Bill Hewitt, Link Lyman, Beattie Feathers, Red Grange, and Bronko Nagurski. Now, remember, even though it is signed by SEVEN Hall of Famers, he only counts this as his KIESLING autograph. For example, Nagurski is on this sheet, BUT, he counts his Nagurski autograph as his Chicago Bears contract from ( I forget ) either 1933 or 1934. Send him a message through Ebay, and tell him to join this forum !!!! Believe me, I have told him, maybe a little prodding from someone else will get him to do it.
Rocke >>
The Curly arrived 2 days ago, and you are right, it is even better in-person! I think I also know what you mean about Rod counting one autograph or another as part of his collection.
The page is from the 1963 HOF Induction program, and I knew something had to be on the other side. Much to my surprise, as I took the page out from the holder to take a loser look and see what was on the back...
George Halas...and it was AUTOGRAPHED. I do not have any George Halas signatures, so this was an added bonus!!! In one piece, I have the founding members/players/coaches of 2 of the original teams, and heated rivalries. just amazing.
I am going to rethink how to frame/display it, since I will want to be able to show both sides.
Great that your Lambeau was backed by a Halas - maybe get a color copy made of one side so you can display them side by side.
Didn't this item show up on this board -
Athlete signed album of attendees at 1955 funeral for famed "Chicago Tribune" sports editor Arch Ward. Among those who signed the "Memorial Record" book are Harry Stuhldreher and Elmer Layden, two of the "Four Horsemen" of the University of Notre Dame's 1924 football team coached by the legendary Knute Rockne. Football Hall-of-Famers Joe Stydahar and Paddy Driscoll also attended Ward's funeral and signed the memorial book, which bears over 1,000 signatures. The 7" x 9" book, bound with a tasseled cord, is in very good condition.
I asked the seller if all the pages are intact and uncut or have any autographs been removed?
They answered : All the pages in the album are intact and uncut. As well as no autographs have been removed. Amanda - n8sautographs
That used to be Mark's book I believe - and as I recall the pages were in tact (or he never mentioned they weren't) earlier. I think that is a true statement, but I'll leave that to Mark.

All the pages were intact when I sold it. I laugh when I see the listing because they post the sig of the wrong "Elmer" (whos Elmer Otto?). Elmer Layden's autograph was in the book though. It also contains sigs of several boxing and baseball hofers. Other football sigs were Hunk Anderson and Bert Metzger. There was a couple of Chicago Cardinal autographs too. I bought the book hoping for an autograph of Duke Slater, who was a Chicago judge during that time period. Unfortunately, no Duke....but it is still a nice book. I think I sold it for around $750 on ebay to the current seller.
Nice Pick-up Craig. Even though Carl will most likely never get in the Hall, in my opinion, no Hall of Fame collection is complete without having a Carl Storck autograph, just as I feel a Elmer Layden is also essential. In 92 years, only EIGHT men have been President / Commissioner of the NFL. Other than Joe Carr, Storck is the toughest to get. Glad you picked up a nice item, at a VERY reasonable price. Rocke

Rev, No problem, that`s what auctions are all about. I was shocked that it looks like we were the only bidders on nice item. RR auctions not a hotbed of top Football autographs. Just never know what will show up and where it will be offered! Goal Line Art autographed cards are my favorite medium to collect Pro Football Hall of Fame autographs. Nice pick up!
First : Mike, nice pick-up on the Goal Line Art cards. That is a REALLY nice Bradshaw. His is one of my least favorite Goal Line cards in my GOLD set. The sig. is very light. I think his sharpie was getting low on ink, Plus, I don't think he was pressing very hard. Yours is VERY nice.
Second : Along the Goal Line Art theme, I know Dave knows this, don't know if anyone else does or not, This years class of Hall of Famers numbers six, BUT, there are SEVEN Goal Line Art cards in this years set. The extra card ? I am VERY Glad that Jim M. let him do it, but he gave the artist, Gary Thomas, the OK to make a self portrait card. So, the man that has drawn all 273 GLA cards, now has a card of himself. He is scheduled to do his first ever autograph show at the CSA show in July. I have also been Emailing with him, and am hopeful that Gary will sit with me at the local Belden Village Mall show during Hall of Fame weekend. I was fortunate to have lunch with Gary and his wife a couple of years ago. He has been to my house and has seen my collection. I have told him that I want him to stop over again and sign my Rec-Room wall.
Third : Along the signing of my Rec-Room wall theme, Three and 1/2 hours from now, I will be picking up N.Y. Giants Linebacker and Hall of Famer Harry Carson. This will be the first time I have ever even MET Harry. Hopefully I get him over. Facebook friends, look for pictures Sunday evening.

Rocke, Enjoy Harry Carson, the heart and soul of the 86 Super Bowl Champs. The best inside linebacker to ever play for the Giants! He has been a champion of many charities. He did make a good catch on a fake field goal for a touchdown in 86. A linebacker`s version of "Jerry Rice" I remember he went to Hawaii every year when the H.O.F. selections were announced and was the last to know. After being passed over for 13 years in the flawed selection process, Harry was inducted in 2006. So deserved and so delayed. Rocke, enjoy your time with a real class guy!
Sorry Sam, I mean Mr. Huff when I called Harry Carson the best NY Giant`s best inside linebacker of All Time. Hey second best is not shabby. Rocke, enjoy your time with Harry. Did I mention that Harry is very autograph friendly? Craig
<< <i>Sorry Sam, I mean Mr. Huff when I called Harry Carson the best NY Giant`s best inside linebacker of All Time. Hey second best is not shabby. Rocke, enjoy your time with Harry. Did I mention that Harry is very autograph friendly? Craig >>
Hey Craig, I'm sure that Harry is autograph friendly, but to be honest I almost NEVER ask these guys for autographs. I LOVE what I do, driving for Jane, spending time with these guys, getting them over to my house etc..... Generally, the only thing I ask them to sign is on my Rec-room wall. The last thing I need, is Joe athlete to tell Jane that I had them sign a few 8 X 10's and Goal Line Art cards. I could be replaced VERY easily. I am sure that there are a number of other people at her show's that would LOVE to do, what I get to do. It just isn't worth it to me to risk losing what I have. I did get ONE autograph from Bernie Kosar, and I had Y.A. Tittle sign an index card, and a Goal Line Art card Yelberton A. Tittle. But I am keeping them for myself, not for re-sale. Had a GREAT time out to dinner with him tonight. Picking him up for breakfast in the morning.

Rocke, Autograph friendly was a general comment about Harry Carson. I would do exactly what you do as I have assisted in autograph signings and love meeting the players and talking to them one on one. I share your enthusiasim about hosting all of these great Football legends and men. To sign your wall is autograph enough! Loved your pictures on FaceBook!
Well I have another fun one for you guys. It isn’t the greatest quality, but I couldn’t be happier about it.
A couple months ago, a guy listed this Jim Thorpe cut auto that was glued onto a piece of cardboard on ebay with a 74.99 starting price. He included the following pictures on his auction:
Now as you can see the pics were horrendous (and the signature is horrible as well). I submitted a quick opinion to PSA/DNA, and they were unable to determine if it was authentic or not (not surprisingly). Luckily I have pretty good eyes, and noticed above the Jim Thorpe – the Century’s Best there was a date of 1951. I did a quick search and was able to find the following index card that was also signed in 1951:
I know Mr Thorpe had different signatures through various stages of his life, so I was excited to find one I could compare it to…..and if you look (or are able to see it), the signatures were very identical. I ended up winning the cut for $256 DLVD. I received the cut on 5/30/12 and mailed it along with a number of other items to PSA/DNA on 5/31/12 for the $12 special they were doing. Luckily, they slabbed the Thorpe for the special, and I saved $88 on the authentication of it as well. So in the end, I have $278 invested in an authentic slabbed Thorpe – and even though the signature isn’t the best (although it does look way better in person – the entire signature is very legible) I’m proud to be able to add a slabbed Thorpe to my PC for under $300.
Here are some other items from my submission as well:
My Turk Edwards is now encased.

Fantastic Pick up!!!!! Like they say.....every squirell finds an acorn.....I love it when people win auctions because the seller spells a name wrong or they have no idea what they have! I won a slabbed Benny Friedman 3x5 for $20 because Friedman was spelled wrong and a signed 1969 HOF induction program signed by Nomellini, Stautner, Perry, Turk Edwards, and Greasy Neale. It was advertised as signed by Joe Perry. It passed authenication with flying colors.

Yeah, those are always nice. This guy just didn't seem to care....it wasn't that he didn't know what he had. He said his dad got it back in 1951 right after he was named the Century's best athlete. He said his dad gave it to him when he was a kid and it was just sitting in a desk drawer and he wanted to find a good home for it. Glad that home was mine

I am really stuck at a stalemate at 241 since I got a new one and can't really find a reasonable price on anyone else that I still need, but at least these 3 came back authentic from PSA/DNA. Only the Hickerson was a new one.
I have an opportunity to buy the following 2 autos for $1,150 which I think seems fair considering they are not full blown index cards. Do you guys agree that this is a fair price to pay for the 2, and do they look good to you (or is there a way to submit them under the quick opinion since they aren't part of an auction)? They looked spot on to me from what I can tell.

That seems a fair price - I have a slabbed Herber 3x5 which I value at $300 and my Pollard I value at $1,600. I just signed up for a month of PSA's Real! Autographs Online service which has many examples to look at and compare from - Herber has several examples and one looks just like yours - they don't have Pollard and the only example I have is a signed deed which is somewhat different from the example you posted, but I don't know the range of his autograph variations.
I would assume he'd sign a deed a little more carefully than an autograph request, so that'd make sense. Here are a few exemplars I had saved - they seemed close to me (plus the other party guarantees it'll pass or I can get my money back).

I'll see what I can find out, but a KILLER item just recently sold at auction, and was won by, well you guessed it. American Memorabilia had a Owners Meeting sheet from 1951 in their Feb. 2012 Auction. The sheet was signed by Twelve owners, including Art Rooney, George Halas, Arthur "Mickey" McBride, George Preston Marshall, Dan Reeves, and A.J. Morabito. He paid just over $1,900.00 for it. It is a STUNNING piece of NFL History. I doubt he will sell it. Just google " American Memorabilia 1951 National Football League Rooney Mara Halas " Could someone PLEASE post a link to it. I about fell over at breakfast a few weeks ago when he laid it down in front of me !!! Rocke MY BEST WISHES >>

Hey Everyone, It's been a while since I've posted. We moved and I bought a new computer and lost the link. I wanted to post on here to let everyone know that my son and I have decided to sell off his collection. For those of you that don't know who I am, my son Zack has been collecting since he was about nine. He actually got his collection down to only needing Hugh Ray and Charles Bidwell. He has a lot of really nice pieces that he is going to sell and I would be very pleased if we can help others complete their collections. We have really enjoyed the whole process of collecting and made a ton of really great friends alomg the way. Zack has gotten to meet some incredible players and we have created a ton of amazing memories. That being said, Zack has been accepted to college and would also like to buy a car so the time is right to sell his collection. He has a really nice Pollard, A Pete Henry contract signed Wilbur Henry, a Dan Reeves index card that is the nicest I've ever seen, AND LOTS OF OTHERS. I would be happy to send photos if anyone would like to e-mail me. The only ones he does not have are Carr, Bidwell, Mara and Ray. He sold his Mara and Carr earlier this year. Feel free to e-mail me at zaxdad1209@yahoo.com if you are interested. We have gotten a lot of really great advice from the members on this thread and I really would like to see these go to those that appreciate them the most. Thanks to Rocke and Bart for their help along the way. Also Revmoran has given us a great deal of advice. Most of Zack's autographs of the later classes are on mini helmets but all of the old ones are not. I'm not too horribly interested in payment plans. Not trying to be difficult but this decision wasn't an easy one and I'd kind of just like to tear off the band-aid if you know what I mean. I have an offer from a dealer but I'm also not interested in that. Please let me know if anyone is interested and I will get back to you. I wish I knew how to post photos on here but I've got no idea.
Just to chime in here, Bill Brown is ROCK SOLID. I know a few of you have met, or had dealings with Bill, most have not. Anyone that makes a deal with Bill will get what they paid for. He is 100% honest, and can be trusted without question. Bill and Zack have been to my home and seen my collection, and I am very happy to have them as friends. Best of Luck to Zack as he begins the next phase of his life. Rocke

Thanks for the endorsement Rocke, You have been a great help along the way. We will still be attending shows so we will keep in touch. We're planning another trip to the Hall of Fame as well before Zack starts school so we will have to check out the updated basement and your new items. I'm sure that a few years down the road when Zack has a son, we will start all over. I'm looking forward to it.
Hi everyone, I've recieved a lot of kind words and thoughts about selling our collection. I have recieved numerous e-mails and I am working on getting the items scanned. If you don't hear from me by Monday, Please resend your messages. I think I'm doing well but I might miss a few. Revmoran, I got you pm but the e-mail I sent was returned. I changed the word church around and it went through so let me know if you got it. Thanks again for your interest. It's nice to know that we can help some folks get closer to completing their collections.
Hi everyone, I've decided that it would be best to list these autograph prices here on the thread and then if you are interested, I'll take first person paid. There are a few of these pieces that are quite nice and I don't want to upset anyone but I also don't want to give them away. Being into the hobby as long as we've been in, I know that these autographs don't come along everyday. It took us a lot of time and a lot of money to accumulate this collection. I looked at the Psa price guide and quite frankly I think it needs updated to show the prices that must be paid to obtain some of these guys. I have sent most of you scans and if anyone else would like to see anything, let me know. Please keep in mind that I'm not a dealer and I'm not trying to make a huge profit here. My goal is to recoup the money that we invested and to use it for it's intended use. That being said, I am looking to move them so don't be afraid to make offers. You won't offend me. We didn't get this far in the hobby without a little help and a few breaks along the way. We also spent a little money. Ok, Here goes. Len Ford- multi signed Ford on top- $ 750.00-SOLD Paddy Driscoll- slabbed index- $ 300.00-SOLD Fritz Pollard- Slabbed index, nicest Pollard I've ever seen- $1500.00-SOLD(IN ABOUT TWO SECONDS) Pete Henry- contract from 1926 Canton Bulldogs, signed Wilbur Henry signed as coach, most Henry autos are checks.- $2400.00 Awesome piece of history.-SOLD Bill Hewitt- cut multi signed- $1000.00-SOLD Steve Owen- Slabbed index- $ 1000.00- George Preston Marshall-slabbed index- $750.00-SOLD Curly Lambeau- Book of College records, Signed E.L. Lambeau on first blank page- $ 1600.00 Dan Reeves- Slabbed index- VERY NICE REEVES- $ 1000.00-SOLD Guy Chanberlin- slabbed index- $ 750.00-SOLD Arnie Herber- signed index- $400.00-SOLD Blood Mcnally- slabbed envelope- $ 550.00 Al Davis- slabbed index- $ 400.00 Jim Finks-slabbed cut- $ 450.00 Jim Conzleman- index- 250.00-SOLD Jim Thorpe- signed book, The Fabulous Redmen- $2000.00
Well, theres a start. I will take the first asking price offer I get meaning if you want the Pollard at $1500.00, it's yours. I am happy to listen to offers like I said. I will take all offers until Tuesday and then I'll decide from there. A few of these prices are actually lower than the price we paid but I never questioned a price. I was just happy to find the autograph. I will pay shipping on whatever you buy. I will ship as soon as payment is recieved. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED NOTIFY ME and I will hold the autographs for you for three days. That should be more than enough time to arrange payment. I can take paypal or checks, However you want to do it. The Kiesling autograph is being authenticated so I am going to hold off on that one. For those of you that asked about cards, I will get back to you with those. You should e-mail me at zaxdad1209@yahoo.com if your interested. I don't always get the PM's. Thanks.

Opinions on this? I put in an offer that was accepted, but I'm worried the signature is too "clean." His is always such a mess you can hardly make it out. Did I get lucky, and did he follow where it says "Write Plainly Please?" If so, I think I got a good price.
I submitted a "quick opinion" and it came back questionable. Ebay removed the listing and refunded my money within 15 minutes of the results, without any action by myself nor the seller. Is that a normal thing to have happen?

Was that the signed hotel register? I was having a little exchange with that seller via E-bay messaging. I was going to do a quick opinion, also....but decided not to after looking at several exemplars and based on my own experiences. Figured it was just a waste of my money, did not realize that they would refund the cost.
Picked up a copy of Fabulous Redmen from abebooks last week for $20. It was listed as being signed by the author and " a Jim Moore". I looked at the scan of my Thorpe and could see how someone unfamiliar with football autographs would make such a mistake. Couldn't go wrong for that price so i quickly snatched it up. Just got it in the mail today. What do you guys think?

Thanks raiderguy. Still laughing at the russell comment. Unfortunately my scanner is boxed up for our move this week, so i took the pic with my phone(hence the shadow on the far right).
Just asked my wife who signed the book and she said "looks like Jim Moore". God help her if she has to sell my collectibles when I die.
Hi Everyone, I'm glad everyone seems to be happy with the items they purchased. Thank You so much for making this so easy. I was worried that Zack would get a little anxious once everything started to go but he has been really good and the fact that everyone made good offers and paid right away really helped a lot. You guys are all first class. I just finished scanning the remaining autographs and I will be listing them in the next few days. There will be a few left over from the first list as well as quite a few less expensive pieces. I will handle things the same way. I will post the items and you can contact me for scans. First person to say they want the item gets it. We have a lot of Hall of Famers left as well as some hopefuls. Mark, the book you got is identical to the one I have. What a deal!! I think Thorpe signed quite a few of those on some type of book tour. Good for you.

Does this sound right???

No problem, that`s what auctions are all about.
Craig

Enjoy Harry Carson, the heart and soul of the 86 Super Bowl Champs.

Autograph friendly was a general comment about Harry Carson. I would do exactly what you do as I have assisted in autograph signings and love meeting the players and talking to them one on one. I share your enthusiasim about hosting all of these great Football legends and men. To sign your wall is autograph enough! Loved your pictures on FaceBook!

And a few potential HOFers:

<< <i>Fantastic Pick up!!!!! >>

<< <i>I have an opportunity to buy the following 2 autos for $1,150 which I think seems fair considering they are not full blown index cards. Do you guys agree that this is a fair price to pay for the 2, and do they look good to you (or is there a way to submit them under the quick opinion since they aren't part of an auction)? They looked spot on to me from what I can tell.
>>
Hey Derrick, in my opinion, you would be a complete fool to pass up that deal. I don't know who is making you that offer, but I'll tell you what. If you don't want to make that deal, tell the guy that you want to make it, and I'll send you the money. I'll take them both for 1,150.00 all day long.

I submitted a "quick opinion" and it came back questionable. Ebay removed the listing and refunded my money within 15 minutes of the results, without any action by myself nor the seller. Is that a normal thing to have happen?

<< <i>Opinions on this? I put in an offer that was accepted, but I'm worried the signature is too "clean." His is always such a mess you can hardly make it out. Did I get lucky, and did he follow where it says "Write Plainly Please?" If so, I think I got a good price.

Was that the signed hotel register? I was having a little exchange with that seller via E-bay messaging. I was going to do a quick opinion, also....but decided not to after looking at several exemplars and based on my own experiences. Figured it was just a waste of my money, did not realize that they would refund the cost.

Hey guys,
Picked up a copy of Fabulous Redmen from abebooks last week for $20.
Cheers!
