Great items above. I agree that CF HOF'ers do not seem to get the attention they should but like you said, someday.

Here are a couple of items I recently acquired. I got the Tippy Dye photo from the internet and sent it to him. I asked if he could sign his full name. Turned our really nice I think. The Al Bedner I picked up from my friend that is selling his collection.

    Jay,

When did you pick up the Lyman and Conzelman? I knew that you had the Driscoll and Lambeau but not the other two...

    Jay,

Nice additions! I sent in 60 cards w/ Mike's group order including a RWJ signed 64 Topps Bills team card. I also have my replacement George Allen, but I need to reslab it (it's currently in a blue flip).

I may have a big announcement...I'll keep you updated image

    Hey guys,

Many of you are aware of the large Fritz Pollard collection that sold on ebay last month. Rhys from Prewarsports obtained not only that auction but over 6 pounds of Pollard material the seller had. He has multiple vintage first name signed notes from Pollard Sr. that he would be willing to sell for $250 each. You can contact him through his website at prewarsports.com. Don't know how many of you know Rhys, but he is a great dealer and good friend. He is also very fair and willing to negotiate. I've obtained several great 19th century autographs from him throughout the last few years. If interested, send him an email through his website.

He has some full name signatures too that he will be selling on his website in the next few months.

    All the best

    Hello All,
Hey Jay, am I to assume that this was one of your hints that you had won the second Link Lyman card.
As far as the DonRuss Steve Owen or Owens card, I did not have it graded, and in fact, I don't have it any more. I have already consigned it with Huggins & Scott Auction Company, and it will be in their upcoming auction, which starts somewhere around the middle of November, and ends around ( I am not sure exactly )December 2nd. Please, anyone out there that would like, stick in a bid ( or three )!!!! I would greatly appreciate it !!!!

Thought this was a pretty cool piece to share. If you collect autos of vintage college football coaches, a great grouping is on this single piece. George Little's son actually gave me this piece 6-7 years ago. A similar piece sold on mastronet about 5 years ago for a little under $2k.

    image
  • Cfhofer,

That piece is awesome! It has three of my most desired autographs on one page - Zuppke, Yost, and Rockne. I recently picked up an autographed copy of "It Was a Different Game" signed by Elmer Layden and instead of putting it away I actually decided to read the book. Layden discusses all of the coaches of his time and his admiration for them and it got me interested in finding out more about them. Thanks for sharing and for making me jealous this morning:}.

Thanks for the kind words guys..

    Ken,

My main focus of autograph collecting was Michigan autographs. Since then, it has branched out into Ivy League and pre-WW1 pieces. I have several extra Fielding Yost signed letters. If you are interested in trading for one, let me know.

    Mark
  • Mark,
That is an absolutely AWESOME item. I admit, I caould only pick out 8 or 9 autographs, but that kind of item is truly epic. It is hard to imagine all those people being in one place at one time. Air travel was still somewhat in it's infancy back then. That is one remarkable item.

    Thanks Rocke,

The College HOFers on the program are Little, Mcgugin, Stagg, Wilce, Phelan, Spears, Zuppke, Rockne and Yost. I never thought about the logistics of all these coaches being in one place. Would have been pretty cool to be at such an event. If I could only get my time machine working..... image

    Ken - email sent.

    Mark

  • Tim Cohane has a good book, Great College Football Coaches of the Twenties and Thirties - I don't have time to go down the list, but Little was Red Blaik's coach at Miami of Ohio, for example. I'm sure there are others on the list in addition to the HOFers who have great stories - fantastic piece! Thanks for sharing it.

Are there any Gene Lipscomb autograph experts here? As some of you know I'm a huge Colts fan and I need this for my All-Time Colts Autograph set. Unfortunately, PSA/DNA could not render an opinion on this signature. I've bought from this seller before on several occasions and never had a problem, but I figured I would ask for opinions!

  • << <i>Rocke, That was a really cool article. I think anything that brings attention to the hobby is a great thing. We haven't done a whole lot lately but Zack is excited about the CSA show with Deacon Jones. Hopefully we'll see you there. Talk to you soon. Bill >>

    Hi Zack and Bill,
Well here is what's up with me and Chantilly. Back in July / August, I was planning on going in November, but a couple of things have changed my mind. First, to me, the Football line-up seems a little weak. There is not one guy there that I have not already had their picture taken with Ben, and only John Riggins, Sonny Jurgenson, Steve Largent and LeeRoy Selmon have not signed the 11 x 14 picture. Also, I have mentioned before that the Lady that runs the local cardshow has let me take her autograph guests out to eat after the show and then back to either the Akron / Canton airport ( or the Cleveland airport in the case of Bobby Mitchell ). Well , and I am REALLY stoked about this, Sunday November 1st, she is having Bernie Kosar. There is NO WAY I can pass this up.
I am glad that Deacon Jones will be there so Zack can meet him and get his picture with him.
    Take Care.

  • Thanks Reese. I like the card, but would like it better if they had the "Earl" part of his name on the card too. My Neale cut signature has the "E" in Neale missing.
I'm also pissed with the new Ebay search feature. I search for cut signatures each week and didn't see this card. I'm finding out that I'm missing more auctions because of the new search criteria.image

That was actually the reason I decided not to put in a higher bid on it. I think F/X cut card presents very well, but I want the whole signature including the "Earle." I was doubtful that the Neale I currently have will pull a PSA 9, but after thinking about it, I am content with the one I have.

    Jay,

I definately like your cut better. I bid $400 on the cut that ended Sunday, however I didn't like it enough to bid any higher (mainly because, as been pointed out, the signature didn't include his full name).

It was still a nice card and was already graded to boot!

Anyone here looking for a real nice Fritz Pollard? There's a nice 1946 GPC for sale at a pretty good price ($1200). Here is the link to it: http://www.touchdown-treasures.com/qsearch.php?mode=new&time=45

Just scroll down a bit and you should find it. He also has a scan of it on the site.

Just let me know if any of you end up getting it. I would have jumped at it, but it is similar to the one I have in my collection.

yeah, $100 seems a bit high but I am sure it will sell out in no time. It would be good for helmets or jerseys but cards and 3x5's wouldn't be worth it.

The fee is high but he's getting older and doesn't sign TTM. Additionally, there aren't many of his autographs floating around out there (at least that I've seen).

Just hope that he doesn't get elected to the HOF image

    Jay,

It fell through. I was close to buying a Jim Thorpe but the dealer pulled out at the last minute.....arghhhh. On a positive note, I re-submitted my 1955 Topps AA Turk Edwards w/ Mike Navarro's order...so I'm hope that it's slabbed this time (assuming the auto is good...which I believe it is).

<< <i>That was actually the reason I decided not to put in a higher bid on it. I think F/X cut card presents very well, but I want the whole signature including the "Earle." I was doubtful that the Neale I currently have will pull a PSA 9, but after thinking about it, I am content with the one I have.

    Greg,

Which Thorpe was it? Too bad it fell through, but there are others floating around.

Just sent a bundle of '48 Leaf autos via the PSA/DNA special, including a bunch of high #'s and a handful of deceased. Hoping there aren't any issues (none suspected) and crossing my fingers a few grade out at EX or better.
