First off, I would like to say I enjoy reading this thread. You guys are some of the most knowledgeable collectors out there and you all have some amazing pieces/collections. Its great that you like to share pictures and details as well so everyone can enjoy them.
Secondly, I have probably spoke to quite a few of you in the past in trying to fullfill my personal collection. I am an Iowa Hawkeye collector and thats my passion. I haven't waivered at all from that, although sometimes I get that itch. I try to keep my collection focused on that. My first enjoyment is collecting Nile Kinnick items, as all of you know, he is the only Heisman trophy winner from Iowa. Otherwise, I love to collect Iowa football autographs of past All-Americans.
Lastly, I hope I can build some further relationships with some of you on this board.
Matt
---I wanted to share with a picture of one of my most prized possessions as a Hawkeye Collector. A piece with not only two of the rarest Iowa autographs, but two autographs others have spoke about on this board. Duke Slater and Nile Kinnick on one piece.
Matt, that's a great piece with both Slater and Kinnick. Have you ever seen a Morgan Taylor autograph? I've been looking for one for a number of years. He and my father were team-mates on the football team at Grinnell - until Taylor won the Gold medal in the hurdles at the 1924 Olympics - then he concentrated on track. My dad went on to play in the NFL and Taylor won medals in both the 1928 and 1932 Olympics - not bad for two Iowa athletes from a small college.
Hello Matt, Even though I am a newbie myself, compared to many of the other posters here, I want to extend my "Welcome" to you. I am sure you are not the only Iowa Hawkeye collector out there, BUT, about a year ago, and I don't remember the circumstances, but an Iowa Hawkeye collector called me out of the blue one evening, and I remember that he had a Duke Slater and Nile Kinnick autograph, but I don't remember that they were on the same item. We talked for about an hour on the phone. I have to ask, was that you that called me? If so, this is a great " it's a small world" story !!!! Rocke

Welcome - it's always nice to meet a fellow autograph collector. Thanks for sharing the scan of your amazing piece! I have autographed cards of 66 of the 71 Heisman winners (excluding Tebow and Bradford - since they're both still in college) and Kinnick is the holy grail of Heisman autographs (followed closely by Ernie Davis). I recently read Nile Kinnick's bio and he seemed to be an amazing person. It's so tragic that his live was cut short so tragically....
Your piece is the first Duke Slater autograph that I've seen. There is a very quiet movement pushing for his enshrinement in Canton. From what I've read, he was one of the best lineman of his day. As a matter of fact, an article was written back in the early 60's, prior to the first HOF class induction in 1963, which listed the players/coaches/contributers most likely to be elected in the early years of the HOF. Of all the people listed in this article (which was written by a well respected sports columnist...I can't remember his name), Duke Slater is the only person not currently enshrined in the HOF.
The only reason that I would hate to see Duke elected into the HOF is that his autograph would be EXTREMEMLY difficult to find (e.g. Fritz Pollard)...which is purely selfish

Hello Tim, I paid $1021.00 ( that includes the buyers premium ) for my Pete Henry check. I got it from the Nov. 25th, 2007 Heritage Auction. It was also already PSA authenticated and slabbed. I also bought one on Ebay around the same time. I forget exactly what I paid, but it was in the neighborhood of $850.00 It was also already PSA authenticated and slabbed. I have never seen one sell for less than the one I got on Ebay, and the MOST that I know of was one that Rod bought from Ron Gordon at the '07 National in Cleveland for $1,300.00 but that is a REALLY nice one with NO creases, as many of them DO have. I agree with Mark's opinion that between 800 and 1,200 is fair. For what it's worth, show your salesman Mark and my opinion. Good Luck, and let us know how it turns out. Rocke

Tim, Absolutely FANTASTIC pick-up. That is the one that I talked about a couple of days after the auction ended. Bart ( BDBOP ) told me about it the day after it ended. I usually scan the Hunt auction pretty close, but I only looked at the first 100 items. Congratulations. Very nice Pollard (and a great deal too). It surprises me how difficult Pollard's signature is to find. He died in 1986 and was a generous TTM signer. As a collector of college football HOF autographs, I spent years looking for Pollard sigs before his induction into Canton. He was tough to find then too (unlike Benny Friedman, who you could regularly find on ebay for $20 - and he died four years before Pollard).
Thanks for the comments. The Pollard 3x5 was listed somewhere in the 600s for Hunt Auction. Here are 2 more of my summer purchases just back from PSA/DNA

<< <i>I was the high bidder of the Fritz Pollard signed 3x5 from the Hunt Auction this summer. I just got it back from PSA/DNA and I wanted to show it off. With buyers fee and postage the total was a little under $480. Tim
>>
Tim,
Absolutely FANTASTIC pick-up. That is the one that I talked about a couple of days after the auction ended. Bart ( BDBOP ) told me about it the day after it ended. I usually scan the Hunt auction pretty close, but I only looked at the first 100 items. Congratulations. I am always happy, and as Jim Rome says, I feel as if I "got over" when I "steal" something, and in this instance, you definitely "got over" !!!
Rocke
Very nice Pollard (and a great deal too). It surprises me how difficult Pollard's signature is to find. He died in 1986 and was a generous TTM signer. As a collector of college football HOF autographs, I spent years looking for Pollard sigs before his induction into Canton. He was tough to find then too (unlike Benny Friedman, who you could regularly find on ebay for $20 - and he died four years before Pollard).
Congrats again Tim

Joe Guyon listing the minor league baseball team he played for.
I got this from the same dealer as the Guyon above
<< <i>Did anyone here win the Jim Thorpe Tri-Star cuts card? I was outbid at $3k...
Rgs,
Greg M. >>
i had emailed the seller and wasnt convinced that he owned the card. this is same one sold in july, yet this seller claimed that he had had it for awhile. he wasnt aware that it was listed before. so i didnt bid. i would have offered him $$ on his earlier listings of this card if not for the emails that i got back from him.

<< <i>The guys I need are the usual suspects, Allen, Bidwell, Carr, Chamberlin, Driscoll, Edwards, Finks, Ford, George, Henry, Herber, Hewitt, Jordan, Kiesling, Lambeau, Mara, Marshall, Owen, Ray, Thorpe. I've seen the registry and you guys have some great collections. >>
Hello Tim,
Just in case you are interested...... I just listed 2 items on Ebay. One is one of those 2000 Fleer "Greats of the Game" card that is signed by Bob Hayes. The other item is a letter, on Chicago Bears letterhead, dated January 26th, 1983 and has a FABULOUS Black Flair tip/ THIN Black Sharpie autograph from Jim Finks. It is a REALLY nice item. Since you are a fellow poster, if you bid and win the letter, I will offer FREE shipping and insurance to you. Don't know if you are interersted....... But....... just wanted to let you know.

Rocke,
Thanks for the heads up. Finks is one of the saved searches I have on e-bay so I've already seen it. I'll keep an eye on it, thanks for the info.
Tim
Rocke - Good luck with your auctions! That letter is very nice.
Jradke - Those Wilson auto's look great. He actually signed yours a little nicer than my GLA.

<< <i>Tim - I was the winner of the Finks 3X5 on E-bay last night for $244....hope we were not bidding against each other:}. It's going in my next batch to PSA/DNA. There has been some nice Finks stuff on E-bay lately, so you should have no problems. Great steal on that Pollard...I would have paid $500 on that without even thinking about it. If I can ever help you with anything, just drop me a message.

Ken,
We were bidding against each other. The seller is who I got the Guyon and Reeves from this summer. I've also purchased a nice Joe Stydahar and Bob Waterfield from him too. Andy, the seller, is top notch.
Tim
Oh sorry about that, as I mentioned there will be another one listed within a week or two I am sure. Great to know about the seller, thanks. My Joe Guyon is actually on a 1927 Louisville Colonels team signed sheet that has most of his teammates signatures. I will post a scan sometime soon. Next on my list is Friedman, Herber, and McNally....
Ken
Sorry it took me so long to reply. Thank you all for the kind words and welcoming to the board. I hope to talk to each of you in the future and maybe we can help eachother out. Rocke, yes, that was me! Crazy. I did have a Slater autographed single signed book that I sold and had a Kinnick sig cut. I didn't have this piece at the time. Hope you all are doing well.
Matt
PS. Mark B, if you need any help with getting Slater inducted, let me know as that needs to happen.

<< <i>Picked this up last night on eBay - I thought it was a great find, but there were only a couple of bidders and it went for under $30. Maybe I've been reading too much about the Carlisle Indians - I thought a lot more people would be bidding.

Nice pick up. I just finished reading the book Carlisle vs. Army, the book was of particular interest to me since I'm an Army Officer and I was born and raised in Carlisle, PA. I learned a lot about my little town.

Some rare sigs are currently up for auction on several sites. I'm sure most of you are all ready aware. But if not, here is a short list of highlights.
Huggins and Scott:
1. Several signed Bill Hewitt checks
2. Notre Dame four horsemen signed book. Very nice grouping.
3. Davey O'Brien signed check
Heritage Sports:
1. Curly Lambeau signed cut
Ebay:
1. Fritz Pollard family papers. Seems most are signed by Fritz Jr, however there is a nice handwritten letter by Sr.
2. Gus Dorais signed 3x5.
3. Jim Crowley signed 3x5.
All the best
Mark
Been pretty quiet lately. Just wondering if anyone here bid on, or won that 2009 Donruss Classic Cut Link Lyman cut autograph card ? ..........

Hello Reese,
It is NOT the Football Beckett. It is the REGULAR September Beckett. Issue # 294. I do NOT know if Beckett has different covers that they use in different areas of the country, but in Ohio The cover was a picture of Brock Lesnar, and Beckett did a feature story on Ultimate Fighting Championship ( UFC ) getting into the mainstream with cards and merchandise.
Greg, what was on your cover in Kansas ?
