Congrats Jay. I was going to bid, but promised Greg I wouldn't to give him a good shot at winning it. I'm just as glad that you won. My snipe would have been a bit higher thoughimage

    Rocke,

I have a few offers of Hickerson 3x5's, but if those don't work out I would be interested. Please e-mail me and if I still need one next weekend we can meet up. I live about 5 minutes from the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly and plan on going for a few hours on Friday and Sunday. Thanks!

    Frank,

Well my snipe was set much higher than the final bid. Greg and I had talked about the card awhile ago and a few days before it closed he said that he would leave it to me. Hopefully when the others surface you two will be able to get them around the same price. It wouldnt have been good for the 3 of us to really jack the price up too high. Though beware there were other bidders outside of Greg and I.

Mr Herber Update....well since I had a dentist appt this AM and drove into Chicago for work afterward I contacted the seller of the Herber cut to see if it would be possible to pick it up in person. it was so off i headed on a little side trip to naperville. so i get in the shop and start talking to the owner. he sells stuff on ebay on consignment for people, like this herber. get this the guy that had the herber also pulled a quad mem card with a thorpe helmet. but back to main part...so the first thing he says was you wouldnt belive how many emails he got to end the auction early. that was even after gregs was posted on the listing. he said that almost as soon as it went up he got gregs email. btw, greg he says that you drop by his store about once a year as he said that that guy was around 80% the last time he saw him. he mentioned that he also collects HOF autos and needed a Herber, knows they are hard to come by but wasnt willing to buy it for his own collection. oh well his loss my gain. he also mentioned that the seller was pleased with the results of the auction. i was under the impression that the seller bought the back at his store. i asked him what he mainly deals in and he said packs but also 60's and 70's cards. i will have to make a trip down there again sometime to see if he has much football...though greg could probably answer that one.

now for what everyone wants to hear about. mr herber seems to be in fine shape. hopefully it grades a 9 but we all know how psa grades the newer thicker cards. i always seem to get much lower grades on them than i think i will get. but since our set isnt weighted it doenst matter much. (which raises the issue again of if it should be rated and how??) i am in the middle of finishing up writing a grant that has to be in the state capital by 5:30 PM Friday. I hope to be able to scan it soon before I send it off with my Trafton and others on the $12 special.

    Jay,

Glad to hear that Mr. Herber is safely in your possession. What's funny is that I was in the shop this evening!! I arrived around 5:40 and mentioned that I was one of the people that contacted him regarding the Herber auction. He said that the winner picked the card up earlier today - and I told him that we were friends.

I usually buy supplies there...and an occasional card but he usually doesn't have much that I collect. He's a good guy though...and is interesting to talk with.

FYI - that card shop is only 5 minutes from my work!!! I really should stop over there more often.

though my cut seems a little nicer.

beware, there was someone that did snipe my auction at the last minute with a high bid.

Did any of you 1997 UD Legends collectors try for this Fred Dean auto? A decade ago I owned about 20 1997 Legends autographs and don't remember every seeing this card.

I need a Fred Dean auto for my set and loved the photo and sig on this card so I put it on my watch list.

    Ullr,

    I have a Fred Dean if you're intersted - I think it's a signed 1984 Topps. I'm asking $15 dlvd.

I didn't think the 1997 Fred Dean UD Legends existed...holy cr*p!! There were 5 or 6 cards for which redemption cards were issued but the players never actually signed; Fred Dean, Sid Luckman, Billy White Shoes Johnson, Bob Trumpy, Mike Webster, Russ Francis and Willie Wood. To my knowledge, certified autographs of 2 of the aforementioned players have subsequently emerged; Mike Webster and Russ Francis (only a couple). I was not aware that any Fred Dean certified autographs existed....wow!! I bet that Frank would be VERY interested.

I have most of the 1997 Legends set (missing around 20) and that is a bombshell if that card is real.

    Rgs,

Greg, auction description said it was card #AL-97 not a TTM on a base card.
I already have a signed 1984 topps card. Now I'm searching for discs, topps stickers and oddball cards. I am interested in your Emmitt Thomas 1976 Wonder Bread card though.

I didn't see that auction, but I'm leery since I have never seen that card before. Part of me hopes the card is legit and part hopes it's not. I contacted the winner to see if he would consider selling. Got my fingers crossed.

Grades were posted!!!!! Turk graded a 5!!!! George Young (Line 11) somehow got a 9!?! I thought it was maybe a 7. Some of these I thought were nicer, specifically Tyrer, Thomas, Turner, and Brown, but oh well I can upgrade those later.

No worries. I can imagine that things got crazy for you today after the 75 bp cut. Unreal. That should create more pressure on the dollar in the fx markets.

    Hello,

I just met a guy through Ebay email, that has some stuff for sale. I sent him a question with my Email address and we have exchanged 6 Emails in the the last 36 hours. He told me that he has just given a '1963, 1964, and 1965 Hall of Fame program to Mastro auction. The ' 64 and ' 65 programs were signed by ALL of the inductees AND their presenters. ( Every enshrinee from the ' 64 and ' 65 class was alive and in good health at that time ). The ' 63 program is signed by John "Blood" McNally, Bronko Nagurski, George Halas, Don Hutson, "Curly" Lambeau, "Red" Grange, Ernie Nevers, Joe Guyon , and Harry Stuhldreher, Jimmy Crowley, Don Miller, and Elmer Layden, AKA The Four Horsemen of Notre Dame who were the presenters for, Stuhldreher/Sammy Baugh, Crowley/Curly Lambeau, Miller/Bronko, Layden/ Ernie Nevers. Plus it has an additional 15 signatures.

We are going to be hooking up next week as I just bought an insignificant item from him ( a 1988 HoF program ) I can't wait to see what these will go for. The nicest ' 63 program I have ever seen did have a Curly, but it only had about 5 or 6 others besides.

    Greg,

Hey, I wrote Ron Wolf TTM about 3 weeks ago and he sent back two signed 3x5's and a really nice handwritten signed letter. If you want one of the 3X5's, just PM me your address and I will get it out to you.

    Ken

P.S. I am the owner of the 97 Legends Russ Francis certified autograph card you mentioned a few days ago in the thread and was quoted a few times in the recent Beckett article on the set. I have never seen another Francis. Wish I would have seen that Dean autoimage...would have been a nice addition to my Legends set.

Those would be programs I'd find very hard to part with! What was his ebay user name - I'd like keep an eye on his auctions. Thanks.
