Whoever is interested in particpating in the group submission, please send an e-mail to montooth13 at yahoo and let me know approximately how many cards you have to submit at the PSA/DNA level and regular bulk (1960 to present) levels.

Quick question about the group sub. I have some manufacter certified "thick" cards that wont fit in the normal holder. Can these be submitted at the regular bulk level?

    Reese,

The thick cards are a little more expensive. If we can gather 250 in total, I have a special bulk rate (I'll tell you via e-mail).

  • What type of holder do you use when submitting the thick cards?
They say to use Cardsavers IV's, but I use the hard plastic holders with the magnetic tab on top. Wrap a rubber band around the holder. The card comes out easier and PSA has returned the holders tooimage

    All,

FYI - I requested that autographed versions of the Future HOF - modern and senior sets be added to the registry. Question for the group - as the parallel rc sets only include players, should be added coaches and administrators to the autographed sets?

    greg,

what i would prefer is just one type of auto'd set for future HOFers. i think that in some respects what we have up with the rc's is a little over kill. i am also surprised that they would allow either of those sets. as they will need updating every year. i mean could i request a set of jay's fav rc cards...no they would say it needs to be a collectors showcase set. and in all honesty that is where an future HOFer auto'd set should be. i know a lot of us have gone out and gotten auto'd cards of people we think are going to make the HOF, but as we found out this year even the "experts" in our midst were wrong. i thought i heard someone saying that goldberg was a vertual lock since he was a sr canidate before.

as of now i only have participated in the future modern HOF rc set. and may drop that in the near future. i didnt venture into the sr set as i feel that it will keep getting harder for sr canidates to get in. my personal feeling is that most of the players on that sr list have had plenty of time to make it in already and if they didnt make it in during the regular eligiblity period they shouldnt make it. but if they keep getting a certain percent or making it into certain cuts should still be included.

so my feeling is that a set of this type is still best suited for being a collectors showcase set. the only draw back to that is you dont get any recognition for your sets.

    Jay,

One auto'd set would be fine...I really don't mind either way. As stated above, I would like the auto'd sets to include non-players though.

    Thoughts?

<< <i>What type of qualifications does it take for a coach or admin to get elected? >>

There really is no set criteria....but I'm sure that super bowl appearances are a major factor and so is longevity. For owners, I'd say the only viable candidates right now are:

Art Modell (he has been a finalist once or twice)
Ralph Wilson Jr. (2 x finalist)
    George Young (multiple time finalist)
    Bob Harlan / Ron Wolf
    Bob Kraft

    Other executives / personalities:

    Paul Tagliabue
    Steve Sabol
    Ed Sabol

    Coaches:
    Bill Parcells
    Marty Shottenheimer
    Bill Cowher
    Bill Belichick
    Clark Shaunessey (long shot)
    Don Coryall (long shot)
Jimmy Johnson (too short of a career??)
    Dan Reeves
    Mike Shannahan

    Thoughts?

    Greg,

Dont forget to include Mike Holmgren in that group. 3 SB appearances, 1 win, turned the Packers around, did the same with the Seahawks. Plus he was good with the media. Which may help him come voting time.

I say Jimmy Johnson should be in. Same reason as Holmgren and maybe more. Won two SB's, really a third as he was the reason they won it. Plus he was the man that put that team together in the drafts. returned dallas to the top for quite awhile.

    Hey Guys,

I wanted to let you all know about an eBay member some of you were talking about a month or so ago.

    GEORGEALLEN40 , aka John Gant.

He won an auction from me and said he would send payment the next day. He never did. I left negative feedback and then he claims I over-reacted. I then give him more time and he still lied and tried to make excuses. I called (no response) and emailed him numerous times and he just keeps giving me excuses. He claimed "I am a man of my word" but this is a lie.

Do not let him bid or do not bid on anything he has to offer. You would probably get screwed. There is more to the story but you get the point.

    Jim,

I have heard the same thing over and over from him. He is not a man of his word and he still owes me $65 for that terrible Steve Owen transaction. I had to go through my credit card company to get my refund. They gave me a temporary refund on it, but the final decision still has to be made. He is a theif and a lair, and I am sure one day he is going to screw over the wrong person.

    Yes he did.

What really upsets me is his constant lying. He stated some crap about people know he only buys high end items, he doesn't care Goldberg didn't make the HOF, he knows he will eventually, he is a man of his word..blah blah blah. Why would someone do this? If the guy has money issues, I can understand, but don't lie, then lie again, then cover up a lie with a lie......

so, again everyone should put GEORGEALLEN40 on their block list. I will now follow what a very wise man once said-------------------

There is an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably Tennessee, that says "fool me once shame on.....shame on you, fool me you can't get fooled again!"

Well, right off the bat there are some differences. The "E"s are all different. Has anyone seen him sign "Earl" instead of "Earle?"Everything else looks good to me. I wish PSA would have sent my quick opinion results on this! I will wait until I get the results before I pay.

    Reese,

I know that the Neale I have is from the mid 20's. It's likely that the one you bought was from later in life. What bothers me is that he spelled the middle name as Earle for my auto and as Earl in yours...strange.

well, my quick opinion results showed up this morning as "Likely Not Geniune." I am going to email the seller, but will probably end up taking a negative on this one. It really pisses me off that PSA did not send the results until after the auction.

Are you sure that you don't want to take a chance? You could roll the dice with PSA and or JSA if the seller will offer a money back guarantee. After all, $200 is not a huge gamble on such a tough autograph.

good luck on the neale reese. but i have a hard time seeing that it would pass if he signs with the "e"'s at the ends. that is a dead give away. btw, how does it compare to the card knuckles made for you? or at least i thought that he had made an earle for you.

Compare it against the Neale cut that Frank bought recently.

The card Knuckles made for me was a later signature. It is a little shakey, but it measures up more closely to a majority of the PSA examples I have seen. Many of the same characteristics are on the Exhibit card, but the lower case "E's" and signing "Earl" instead of "Earle" is something I have not seen before. I paid for the quick opinion thinking I would get the results before the auction ended. I took a chance on it, and it looks like PSA doesn't think it is real. I would have really liked to have it slabbed for my set.

I dont think I will roll the dice on it. It seems like the quick opinion is pretty accurate. The George Preston Marshall comes to mind. If they had doubts about it now, I am sure there opinion wouldn't change. I really dont want to pay the grading fees for them to tell me the same thing they just did. The only thing that has me interested in paying for it, is that Richard Albershiem was the underbidder.

Here is the card Knuckles made for me. This was in a PSA/DNA slab before it was cracked to make this card.

  • OK guys, here is the newest addition to my set. What do you think of the autograph?
Reese, I compared it to my cut auto and there are quite a few differences. I don't have a scan at the moment of my card but here are the differences:
#1 Your first "E' in Earle is missing the long downward stroke
#2 Your Earl is missing the last e (Should read Earle)
#3 Your "N" in Neale is missing the initial loop
#4 The first "e" in Neale is closed on yours instead of an open letter.

    Hope this helps.
