    Greg,

I have a question about the group sub. On the spreadsheet it is showing that your 2 card submission with Jay(#4583741) is the same order number as my 4 75 Fleers (#4583741). Do you by chance have the number for my submission?

  • One of your PSA/DNA orders popped (the 4 card order w/ no grades). The Len Ford came back as questionable authentication..... Unreal.

I'll wait till i get the card back before I contact Richard, but I'm not happyimage

I can't believe that CJ missed the Owen, Kevin Keating missed the Neale and Richard missed the Ford. Either the biggest dealers don't know what they're doing or PSA/DNA doesn't know what they're talking about.

Did anyone else see this auction last night?

    Henry Jordan

I was going to take a flyer, but e-mailed the seller first to ask if he'd guarantee its authenticity. In the meantime, someone else swooped in and bought it!!! I'm really not sure if its good....I've never seen Henry Jordan sign his name as Hank Jordan. Everyone else's thoughts?

I saw it, but nothing about that signature looks real to me. The "Jordan" doesn't even look close IMO.

Well I have been lucky as late. My Al Davis went through and the same with the Waterfield. I havent emailed the seller of the Marshall yet, but it might have been pulled due to the number of reviews that were done.

Maybe my theory of sending in hard autos under our group submission is kinda true. Not sure how hard the waterfield is really as a few of you have some already. We know the Davis and Jordans are tough to get through. My Davis I sent in alone under the normal price. I figure if it got slabbed it would be worth the $5 extra!!

whose evers that was great grades. i have noticed that small PSA/DNA orders seem to pop pretty quick

on another note, my 200 card modern submission hasnt been logged in yet. i am still waiting on the football special that logged in on 10/29 as well. i have to look up my sub # from my 2 fleer HOF cards that were PSA/DNA'd as well.

i will be adding some new cards to my set that came in the mail today. i also got my other PSA/DNA sub in the mail today. somehow there is all kinds of paper attached to the back of the levy and thats why the 2. I dont remember that being there before, but its also possible that i never looked at the back. oh well, its still a card that i needed anyway.
today was a good mail day!!!

on a side topic, does anyone have any 96 inscriptions that they might be able to help me out with. i am at 100% but currently sitting 0.04 points behind the evil empire. any help on upgrades would be appreciated.

    incriptions set

    thanks

I bought the George Marshall auto'd 1966 Philly card last night for $450. It comes w/ a UK Redskins COA, so I feel someone comfortable. Please see attached scans.

    Greg,

So you are the one that i was bidding against. He had orginally told me that if I was high he would give it to me if I didnt agree to a PSA/DNA requirement. I guess he said that you were wavering in that requirement later and that I needed to bid more again, so i did. Then he came back with 3 minutes left saying that you dropped the requirement altogether and i need to bid more again. I just didnt feel 100% comfortable that someone was really on the other end of the bidding anymore, since the other party was requiring PSA/DNA approval or a refund before, and I figured that it would have been one of us. Since some of us have been burned lately i figured that it wasnt a high probablity that it was one of us at he end. Oh well. Just like with the Neale that Frank won I guess I should have bid more. I just wasnt liking the way things were going there, especially since he said that if i was higher and the didnt want PSA/DNA that it was mine I got leary. Did he let you know that someone else was bidding at all??

I think you have a good shot at getting it slabbed. The photo that he used in the ebay auction made it really tough to see the auto. To me there are many similarites bewteen this auto and the one that Reese has. One was probably more rushed than the other. I doubt that UK had a bad auto, and probably the Owen is real as well, just that they didnt approve it at PSA.

  • I forgot if I saw the link here on a thread, but I saw recently that there were a few NFL player contracts on Ebay for $69.99. The key sig on the contracts was Bert Bell. I compared the signature on the contract to my Canton Cuts Bert Bell Fabfranks HOF Auto set
and the signature looks like it was cut from one of these player contracts.
I paid over $500 for the card, but for those who are looking for this signature, you can buy the contract have Knuckles make you a card and save some cash.image

    Greg,

Here are some other George Preston Marshall signatures if you would like to compare. Most of the autos I have seen from him are sloppy. Your card is much more legible than these examples. Like Jay said there are similarities. Good luck and congrats!

    Jay,

I think that he played both of us on the PSA/DNA requirement. In all honesty, I really don't blame him because it came with a UK Redskins COA. He told me tha the other bidder had dropped the requirement, and that the other bidder offered $425, which was the amount to beat (I had originally offered him $450 to end the auction early).

I don't blame you for being wary. I still have somewhat leary, and have already e-mailed CJ to hear his thoughts on the card and confirm that its the card he sold to the seller. As I said, I knew that someone else was bidding (or that's what I was led to believe) but I was also firm that $450 was my best and final offer. I was going to be bid up by a "phantom bidder"....because I wasn't sure it there really was another bidder or if he was trying to squeeze a few more $ out of me.

We'll see how it works out.

    Regards,

Here's an e-mail that I received back from Kevin Keating on the Greasy Neale. I really think that he went above and beyond and I'll mail the card back to PSA once I receive it. That's why it pays to buy from a reputable dealer!

    Regards,

    Greg M.

    Greg,

Kevin Keating here. We will gladly buy-back the item; however, I can assure you that your item is an autograph--it is NOT a stamp. This is a vintage signature signed during Neale's playing days and most probably in 1924 as it came from a larger collection which all dated from 1923-1926. PSA handles a lot of material and they admit that in the volume of material they receive, they do not always come to the correct conclusion the first time but always try to err on conservatism (which I don't fault them for--no one is perfect in rendering 'opinoins'). And in PSA's defense, they did not have the benefit as I did of seeing this Neale item as part of the larger original collection from whence it came but viewed it out of context and isolated with no reference.

I have already spoke with Steve Grad about your issue and he asked me to ask you to re-send the item and he will look at it again carefully (no charge to you) and I am quite certain that the conclusion will be different the second time around.

FYI--no one was using 'stamps' in the 1920's and certainly Greasy Neale was not. And he wrote extremely neatly throughout his life up until his writing got a bit shaky in the late 1960's--thus acccounting for he 'perfect' and consistent signautre you see.

    Your call--Kevin Keating

    Greg,

He emailed me in the AM of the sale to say that if I wanted the card and didnt require a PSA/DNA that it would be mine if my offer was good. I offered 350. He emailed back saying that yours was a little higher but were wavering on the PSA/DNA or refund part. I uped my offer to 425, and he said that i had the high bid. Which clearly isnt the case if you offered him 450 from the start. Then with 5 mins left he said I would have to bid 475 if i wanted it. 425 was going to be my last bid anyway but after that email I was a little leary if someone was still on the other end.

So maybe you were the reason that he ended the auction early since you offered him $450 to cancel the auction.

    Greg,

How did you get a response as to why they thought the Neale was a stamp? This was what PSA sent me in regards to the Owen.

Our graders/authenticators use the term "Questionable Authenticity"
when they believe a card/autograph is counterfeit. You will have to go to
the person you purchased the card from to get your money back. I'm not
sure if this helps but, if you submit an autograph card to be
authenticated/graded and the autograph is "not authentic" we will not
encapsulated. If the autograph is "authentic" but the card is "not authentic", we
can still encapsulate it as "Authentic Only" without a grade.
Unfortunately, there is no other information that we give regarding your
    results.

Ummmm.....this really doesnt help. The card certainly was authentic. I was looking for a specific response. image

the reason is that they dont think the auto is real. for gregs they think it was stamped as the reason why the didnt pass it.

I guess what I was hoping for was a definitive reason as to why they thought it was fake. Something like "the "S" looks inconsistant with other examples. I just can't find anything drastically different from any other examples in the PSA/DNA archive and from what I have saved on my hard drive. The grading cost was $30. I know it may be wishful thinking, but I think they should tell us why if it does not pass their inspection instead of "we think the signature is not authenitic." Give me a reason!!! Anyway, it has been mailed back to the seller and I am praying my refund is sent.

    << <i>

<< <i>I just talked to PSA and they're saying that the Neale autograph is actually a stamp. Unreal!!! You're right - the Neale came from Kevin Keating....how could he have missed that (assuming PSA is correct)?

    Regards,

    Greg M. >>

    Reese,

I wasn't given a reason why they thought the Neale was a stamp. I agree w/ you. For the $ you spend, I wish they would write a short paragraph why they think the autograph is questionable. I hate that you have no idea why PSA/DNA rejects an autograph. It would be nice to know whether the autograph is an outright fake or they think it's real, but can't be for certain. That's two completely different outcomes in my view.

I completely agree. It would probably slow things down if they wrote a paragraph for each card, but I would certainly be willing to wait. The whole situation just bummed me out, but I learned a very valauble lesson. I do not think I will be buying any more high dollar raw autographed cards. I may not be able to get a refund next time, so I will be sticking with cards that have already passed the PSA/DNA inspection.

Through all of this, I did become a big fan of Kevin Keating. I was really impressed with his knowledge and that he personally contacted Steve Grad to rectify the Greasy Neale situation. I feel more than comfortable purchasing from him, but I think he would be my only exception.

Did anyone hear that Bill Willis passed away last week. He signed of my very first autographs at the Cleveland National probably 10+ years ago.

    Reese,

I saw that...the old timers are dying off in droves. He was a pioneer in football....one of the earliest African American stars in football. RIP.

No, I dont think so. We determined Chamberlin was impossible on a gum card and he does not have any cuts cards. I am going to send this one off to Knuckles. I searched for such a long time trying to find his auto and I just had to show it offimage

I got one of my group subs back last night. I will try and get some pics added to my registry tonight.

I've talked to the seller before and he was hoping to get between 6000-7000. He asked if I was interested but I didn't have that much cash at the time. It may have been my only shot at getting a certified Thorpe since those 2 guys are buying every Thorpe out there.

Seriously, how many Jim Thorpe autographs does one person need? I think it's silly to say the least.

I think you're best bet finding a Thorpe auto is to buy an auto'd 1933 Sports Kings. I bet you could find one cheaper (although there aren't many out there) than a cut auto. For some reason, people go crazy over cut autographs.
