I bought it on October 3. The seller has a huge collection of vintage football stuff and has some things online now. There is no way the Owen is fake.

Sorry to hear that. I would send to JSA before you ask for your money back. I guess that I should be grateful that I ended up not buying that card.

Well, I already asked him for a refund. He said he would return my money if it didn't pass PSA. Here is a pictue, what do you guys think?

    << <i>Greg,

I can't find the checklist for the UD Legends Century Cuts, but here is the scan of the Thorpe from the set. I know for sure that Nagurski and Van Brocklin are in the set and that they are all numbered 1/1.

    image

Here are some of the other Thorpe cuts

    Reese,

Thanks for posting the Thorpe auto....god would I love that. Actually, I would like an autographed Sports King card...that would be very sweet.

    No problem,

After looking at some of these I can't believe how bad some of them look. The one directly above the 99 Century cut is terrible! They were barely able to fit "Jim" in the space! On 3 (UD portraits, 05 Legends, and 99 Century) of those the autograph doesn't fit in the space. And to top it off, how about that Jim Brown sticker auto. Ridiculous!!!

I do think that Playoff did a tremendous job with National Treasures Cuts. Each fits in the space, and they didn't cut his name off in any those pictured. It gives me hope that the card companies are taking more time when working on these. I can only dream about owning one of these, so I guess I am going to have to hunt down a nice index card.

Yeah the guy I bought it from is going to refund me, then he is going to get a refund from UK. I picked up a book signed by Owen so I am going to probably send it off to Knuckles. I emailed customer service to try and figure out what the problem was. They probably do not keep detailed information about every sub, but I thought it was worth a try. I am just bummed about the whole thing....

I am getting these back from Knuckles soon. I think they look pretty cool! The Edwards and Baugh were both on the same page. I didn't want to waste the Baugh signature since it was from the same document. I also won a Guy Chamberlin auto from the last Heritage Auction so I will send him to him as soon as get it.

  • More great work from Knuckles. Are you going to get these slabbed Reese? I just added a few cards this week to my HOF Auto set. Bert bell, Cal Hubbard and and Bruiser Kinnard cut sigs as well as a really nice B. Layne

Yeah, the plan is to get them all slabbed. I have the full letter from PSA for the Edwards and Baugh. Some of the others were cracked out of slabs. I am not really sure how to submit them. I want to get a few more made before I send them in to PSA though. I just picked up a Guy Chamberlin autograph from Heritage and a Steve Owen signed book from ebay. I have my eye on two other signatures, so hopefully I can grab those as well.

Those are all great additions to your set. I remember bidding on that Bert Bell thinking I had it! The Bruiser Kinard cut is very cool! I haven't seen that one before. I love the Layne and the Hubbard as well. Great additions!

  • Reese- Walk me through this. You get the autos, get them certified by PSA/DNA, than send them to Knuckles to made into cards. Than get them re-certified by PSA/DNA again? Or do you get the autos, send the Knuckles and than PSA/DNA and hoped they get slabbed?
I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I'm a little confused.

I was wondering that as well Frank. It would suck to have bought a PSA/DNA auto, crack it, have a card made and then have PSA/DNA reject the validity of the auto.

It is a liitle bit different for each signature I have:

From what I understand, as long as you scan everything before you send it to Knuckles there wont be a problem. When Knuckles cracks the slab, he saves the flip. When you send it to PSA, as long as you have a scan of the original slab and the flip, they will slab it with no problems.

The Baugh/Edwards/Trafton all were previously certified by PSA/DNA. The Lyman was purchased from Richard Albershiem so I think it is fine. The Marshall/Bell/and Neale have not been certified by anyone, but were all bought from reputable dealers.

I have been talking to Sean (he has the big hockey collection made by Knuckles) and he said PSA is giving him a deal and are slabbing his cards for $20 each. I really dont want to pay the full PSA/DNA, but I may be forced to.

    Thanks Greg!

Congrats on finally finding a Goldberg. That is one very nice card.

What are the odds that both Goldberg and Thomas get in the Hall? I have heard some discussion that neither is really HOF worthy, and that people were not real happy about these senior candidates. What about the modern candidates for 2008?

If the senior candidates aren't picked, then it will break a trend going back to 1998 where all of the senior candidates were elected. I agree that the candidates aren't very strong. It's surprising they were chosen over more deserving candidates.

As for the modern candidates, my choices are:

    Cris Carter
    Darrell Green
    Paul Tagliabue or George Young
    Bob Kuechenberg
    Derrick Thomas or Art Monk

    Just my opinion.

Absolutely not....After this whole Owen mess, I am staying away. Doesn't ebay pull the auction after PSA renders the "likely not genuine".
Marshall died in 1969 so it would have given him some time to sign it. Are you going to be bidding?

Here was his response to me about offering a refund if it came back fake:

"It is card #183 1966 Philadelphia. The Washington Redskins team card is on the reverse side. I would offer the money back on any of my other items but I hear cards are crazy sometimes. I'll tell you what if the card is over 500 which is where it should be and you are the winning bidder, I will offer a money back. But what I would suggest is there are several quick scan services through ebay that are inexpensive and can give you a reliable read on it and are a lot less expensive that PSA or Spence. The card was bought from a dealer that I checked out and has a good reputation. I felt good about it and did not want to spend $50+ for the authentication."

Well I have been emailing the seller of the Marshall most of the day today. He said that he bought it a few years ago from UK Redskins. Reese, who did you buy the Owen from was it from this same seller? I too got a likely not genuine. Since your Owen was from UK first as well not sure if I am planning on bidding on this one. I asked him to keep me informed if anyone wants to deal off ebay. I have been burned lately by people that have been doing that. I have a card on my watch list and then a few days later its gone. Auction ended early. Thats a real pain in the arse.

    Hi Jay,

I bought the Owen from another seller who said he bought it from UKredskins. I have bought a handful of things from UKRedskins and not had a problem. Off the top of my head, I have purchased autographed cards of George Allen, Buck Buchanan, Jim Tyrer, Al Davis, and Jack Lambert and all passed PSA/DNA. I did have a Pete Rozelle rejected that I purchased from UK, but he agreed to refund me.

I probably overpaid for the Young, but I was tired of looking for it. You got a great price on the Thomas, I bought mine a couple weeks ago from UK for $65.

    Reese,

I really don't think that you overpaid for the Young - he is very tough to find. I got lucky and paid $18 for mine earlier this year. If he makes that hall, that's a $100+ card easily.

    Greg,

The only sale I had tracked was yours. I kind of figured it would be in the $30-40 range, with the talk of him possibly getting in the Hall.
I am happy to pay the $62 for it and mark him off my list! By any chance, do you know where CJ gets his autos from?

most autos these days are stickers. but i also like some of the newer autos that are included game used materials. i really like them for a hof auto set. get a piece of the game as well as the auto.

    Greg,

FYI, you were lucky with that George Young card earlier this year! I remember it well. I was at a computer that couldn't access ebay. I was calling everyone I knew to bid on it for me! Sadly, nobody was around.

I have 2 nice 3x5's already so I wasn't tooo upset image ....you can check them out at: under the NFL 3X5 section

Great - look what just posted:

1 08261871 1921 EXHIBITS A. EARL NEALE (EARLE)-PSA/DNA CERTIFIED Not Holdered, Questionable Authentication

It's says PSA/DNA certified in the variety line but then says questionable authenticity. Unreal. I called PSA to find out what this means.

Has everyones group subs been logged in? I only got an email about one of mine, and that one popped. The other with Greg has popped as well. I have two others that I submitted the same day with Greg that I still havent heard about.

    Frank,

One of your PSA/DNA orders popped (the 4 card order w/ no grades). The Len Ford came back as questionable authentication..... Unreal.

What is going on with all this stuff? Greg didn't the Neale come from Kevin Keating? I know Frank's Len Ford came from Richard Albershiem. Are they not two of the most recognized dealers in the industry?

I just talked to PSA and they're saying that the Neale autograph is actually a stamp. Unreal!!! You're right - the Neale came from Kevin Keating....how could he have missed that (assuming PSA is correct)?
