I just tried to add about seven cards to this set and six of them said they did not have a valid spec# associated with this set ?
Is anyone else having this trouble ? I am used to getting that message every once in a while, but six times on one set, Wow !
    image

  • I get that on EVERY card I add to the set. It's actually the correct procedure. Since the set has no specific cards to be entered (any autographed card of the player is elegible). The only time a card goes into the set automatically is when it's already been cleared (either by another collector or in one of your other sets).
I wait 1 or 2 days and than just typr the cert # in again and it enters into the set. Hope that helps.

frank is right. just give it a day or two, that is normal business days. then they will go in. the trouble is when you forget to go back and enter them. what i have found handy is to always add the scan at the same time. then when you go back to add the card you only have to add the cert number. so how the system remembers the scan you put in. i think i have even had that happen to cards that i had to request as well.

  • I like the Butkus and Biletnikoff. Are you going to get them graded with a grade or as "Authentic"?
Baseball is my Pastime, Football is my Passion
  • tennesseebankertennesseebanker Posts: 5,433 ✭✭✭
I got these because I hear all three guys are tough signers. I hear Butkus sends the Envelope back with his addy marked out for the TTM requests.

Yes, I plan to get the "Auth" grade on them. I've never sent any in to get the Auto graded, What do I specify on the Sub Form when I send it in ?
    image

  • Butkus and Biletnikoff autos are readily available through many manufacturer certified products. Bradshaw is a bit tougher. If you send in a card from 1998 and newer, you can send it under the current $5 special. Also, for Registry purposes you will get anumber grade. Your cards would have to be sent under PSA/DNA service ($20 service) and your "Authentic" grade would only have a weighting of 1. When you submit under PSA/DNA you can ask for a number grade and the card itself would be graded as well as the autographs authenticity.
I prefer added "Authentic" cards to my Registry if they are from cards that do not qualify for a number grade (such as Goal Line Art Cards or Knuckles creations). Otherwise I try to find nice company certified autos (hand signed as opposed to sticker).

Frank, I am trying to do all my autos on Vintage football only. I love the way the autos look on the cards from the players playing days for some reason.
The authentic designation is all I want on mine, I have no interest in the cards grade, Just that it is vintage with a nice bold sig on it.
You guys trying to complete this registry set should have no fear of my set it will be for viewing purposes really.
If any of you guys have any vintage football autos you would like to trade or sell, Let me know.

  • TB- You're right. It's all about preference. I have found though that the old timers have some gorgeous sigs on some of my modern cards. Check out some of the sigs in my set. Bart Starr is one that comes to mind that's really crisp and clear.

oh no doubt the old guys sigs can look gorgeous on the modern cards as well, And you have some knockout cards.

    tennesseebanker-

Are you going to be sending out TTM? If so, there are a bunch of HOFers that sign free or for a small fee. Off the top of my head, I know Chuck Bednarik, John Madden, Raymond Berry, George Blanda, Bill Dudley, Dante Lavelli, and Ace Parker are all great signers.

I was talking to 'rube' and he thought I should let you know about my website.

    It is located at:

    www.oldestlivingprofootball.com

I have listed ALL the College HOF'ers in order from oldest to youngest as well as

over 1,150 NFL players. I have been using this site and it helps me tremendously when writing older NFL players. I have recently found many players who are thought to be alive have indeed passed away. Don't waste your stamps...I know and update daily who is alive and who has passed away.

If you have any questions about it...drop me a line...

thanks rube for your kind words and membership!

    Randy,

Steve Largent will sign 1 item for free.

As you know I have been chasing the older NFL players for many years. As of today, I have 54 of the top 100 oldest living NFL'ers. That number keeps changing but it is tough getting replies from some of the older players. Some just can't write anymore. I do get letters from family members saying how happy their father was to get 'fan mail'!!

Noble Doss and George Ratterman are just 2 examples of players who can not sign anymore.

I can't wait for the preliminary list of candidates for the 2008 NFL HOF class. I just received back a Darrell Green 1987 Topps cards that I paid $25 for him to sign. I also have 2 Cris Carter auto'd cards...so I have both locks for the upcoming class. Still no luck finding a Marshall Goldberg or Emmitt Thomas yet. I sent a TTM request to Emmitt Thomas a few weeks ago but haven't rec'd anything back yet.

Besides that, nothing else much new. have 20 of the 28 future HOF candidates....after receiving 2 signed Johnny Robinson cards in the mail. I still need:
Mac Speedie (deceased - hard to find auto)
Gene Lipscomb (deceased - hard to find auto)
Jim Tyrer (deceased - moderatly tough to find auto)
Pat Fischer (sent TTM request - no response yet)
Lemar Parrish (sent TTM request - no response yet)
Cliff Harris (sent TTM request - no response yet)
Dave Robinson (sent TTM request - no response yet)
Rich Jackson (still need to send TTM request)
