<< <i>Ok guys...I know most of you focus on just certified items (though a few of you do pack pulled cards as well), but this has to be the most asinine thing I have ever seen. I know cut autos usually sell for a lot more than a nice index card...but this...is just nuts. I had talked to the owner of the card and made an offer that might have been a bit low, but not sure if he sold it to someone else who posted it...or if he posted it, but he listed it at $1999 BIN OBO...and someone hit BIN.
I asked if he was the seller on ebay, but his message was a bit...confusing. lol. It sounded like he sold it and someone else listed, but not sure. If it is paid for...all I can say is wow. Someone either is trying to do the set (not going to happen), or just really wanted the auto.
And indeed it was the guy who got it in the break. He said it was even paid for right away. Supposedly a few people on the forum told him it was $1000 and they know what they are talking about...riiiight. Nothing against the guy who sold it. Glad he got good money for it but I wouldnt have paid above $400-500 for it. The auto is cut off and he just isnt that rare. Heck, the clean Stydahar went for 555.
Guess it just all depends on the buyer. Makes me want to put the Driscoll out there for $5000 and see if they will buy it if they are going to overpay that much. Yeesh.
And to add insult to injury...some uninformed listed the Steve Owen for $475 BIN 2 days ago. Little upset that I missed it, though the auto was quite ugly. Probably a late in life autograph, but still to sell at that price. I think there may be someone trying to get all of the 1/1s from the set as he got the Stydahar and now the Owen. (Probably the Christiansen too.)
No I do not think it's gold. I don't have it in hand yet. I found it for $5 DLVD....thought for that price it'd be a cool knick knack. But I do think it's old...just not sure what or when it's from.

I think that is the engagement ring Rocke gave to his wife.......Nice sale on the Ford. It still amazes me how Probstein got more than your original listing price last week. I made a bid but I'm hoping to find a 3 x 5......someday.
Does anybody know if at some point Joe Guyon lived at 3098 Pershing Way, Longview Washington? Today when I recieved the book I got on ebay autographed by Duke Slater and others i saw a book marker from the author like a buisness card and was signed Joe Guyon with the above address. Trying to figure it out any help is appreciated! Regards -Nathan

The next two will be from my REAL camera. The card itself is in decent shape. The blue ballpoint pen autograph is OUTSTANDING. Barwegan was the last 1950's ALL-DECADE Non-Hall of Fame player that I needed an autograph of. And, now the 1950's is the 1st decade that I have completed.
Thanks Derrick. >>
Rocke,
An absolutely incredible pickup w/ the Barwegan. That's the first example that I've seen and it's one of the nicest ballpoint signatures that I've seen. Congrats. Care to divulge how much you paid - even in confidence?

First of all, thanks to all for the warm welcome to the board.

Hey Greg, I would LOVE to get to meet you and exchange stories. I will be in Myrtle Beach for a week in July.
Are you planning on coming to NE Ohio for the National this year. Did you know HOF weekend is the SAME as The National weekend ? I WILL be at the National on Wed. AND Thurs. IF my contact comes through for me, I will also be their on Tues. I will be set-up at Belden Village Mall on Fri. / Sat. / Sunday for the HOF Mall show. I plan on having autograph collector friends from around the country over Wed. / Thur. / Fri. / Sunday evening. Saturday.....MAYBE.... But I am hoping that I will get an invite to the Ray Guy tent party. I told Ray in Nov. that if he get elected I would LOVE to come. I haven't texted him yet, but I will soon.

I might have to swing by Sunday night on my way home from Nationals, Rocke. Hopefully I can some away with at least one HOFer on my list of needs, though somehow I am doubtful. Kiesling is my main search so I can complete the Steeler HOFers, but I know it won't be easy.

I recently found out that the Football FanFest at the I-X center this weekend, has changed their autograph policy. Originally, every HOFer in a session had to sign the same item. It has been changed, so that now each HOFer can sign individual items. I am guessing that ticket sales, were, shall we say, a little below expectations, so now they have put some common sense into their thinking.

Originally I think this was a pretty bold idea by the Hall. It seemed like a progrssive, interactive symposium kind of thing that would have a incredible number of enshrinees together to endorse the Hall. Seriously, when was the last time there were that many HOFers together at one time ? The enshrinement ceremonies ..maybe? ! They just totally botched it ,though. Restricting access and the ridiculous autograph limitations . This is definitely an Event destination - like the ceremonies or the National - you make plans & gear your schedule to take part and its too little too late. I'm glad they eased thier restrictions with some time left for those who are attending - I DO think it would be very cool to go just as a fan ! Some of us live closer than others - Rocke !! That was a very nice Barwegan, Rocke. I'm glad you finished your 1950's AD team - Barwegan is the last guy I need as well. well, Len Ford too, haha..! I completed the 60's squad about a year ago.Picked up a very nice Larry Morris PSA slabbed card a little before he passed away.
Hey Cesar, Looking at your list, the only guy that you are looking for, that I have ever even heard of, is Bruno Banducci. And that's only because I am also looking for him.
I also noticed on your list of already having an autograph, I see you have Len Eshmont. Where, and when did you pick that up. I looked at Chantilly for one. All of the dealers I asked didn't even know who he was. Glad you got one. Nice pick-up for you.

I bought a Bill Fisk cut from a very nice eBay seller who actually helped me out to track a Bruno Banducci, it is in a 1953 program wich should be in my hands soon, once I get it I will post a picture here, it is actually from a collection of autographed programs, so I will post my findings soon.
About the list, they are mostly 49ers from the inagural season 1946 from the AAFC (which you most know well since the Browns were our greatest rivals, they always kicked our butts, LOL!!!). And from the 1950 season, our first NFL season.
The first part of the list is the ones I already have and the others are the once I am looking for, but I guess I will update it soon, since I have a couple of nice findings.
The Len Esmont I was able to get it last January and I found it from an eBay seller in New York it is in an 8x10 and it is realy GREAT!!!
I hope to be able to post the full 1946 and 1950 49ers autographs I have after my trip to Boston next month!!! (Since I am still expecting to receive a couple of nice pieces).
I also bought fron an eBay seller in Miami a nice album page with Leo Nomellini, Joe Perry, Gordie Soltau, Bill Wightkin, "Bones" Weatherly and Dick Barwegan.
So I've had very nice findings and very nice prices too.
By the way I have a piece that you will HATE!!!! 1953 Detroit Lions Autographs Spiral Album (Do I need to say who they beated in the Championship game in 52 and 53) LOL!!!
I'm helping someone figure out the story of this football - I thought it might be printed but other "Limited Edition" types I've seen have no autographs - thanks
I think the football is one of many different "Collectible" products put out for teams in limited numbers during the late 90's or so. At the tail end of the Football card boom of that time. I know the 49ers had a couple and the Raiders as well. I have one from the Eagles that Concrete Charlie Bednarik was good enough to sign for me. The signatures look real just from a glance - not facsimiles - so that would be cool. Was it Matt Snell off Left Tackle for the 1st TD in Super Bowl III ? Speaking of the 49ers , that is a pretty solid list you have there Cesar !I'm still looking for Eshmont , Beals, & Banducci myself. I have seen one ABSOLUTELY legit Len Eshmont sig - signed on a 1946 team football at Visco Grgichs' house. Visco was an original 49er, noted tough guy, and...a Teacher and Coach in the town I worked. All around good guy who loved talking football and the 49ers ! When the 9ers went to thier first Super Bowl the town chipped in and sent him to the game. He had team signed balls from all the teams he played on - very cool. It was Visco who told me firsthand stories of Eshmont and what he meant to the organization at the time - to this day I hope ! I thought you might like these pics - I remember I had to track down his 51 Bowman card from a catalog, LOL! Ah, the good old days. Now I'm the old and gray one !
UGH ! Sorry about the size format. I've been screwing around trying to figure out how to post pics and its a hassle. At least I got them up ! Better than the last couple of times I tried to do it PS - Cesar - I'm glad you were able to secure what you were after from the SF Show - I ended up not being able to go. Very Disappointed, but its cool you got hooked up ! Working on those tickets
Okay...I think I may have it. Also, trying to determine a value for the person. The book supposedly has some water damage to the cover, but the autographed page looks to be in decent condition.
Don't recognize any of the other guys. I think the book has a value of $1200. Obviously Slater is the anchor, but these signed books are tough to display without destroying them. Water damage to the book doesn't help either. People are beginning to realize that a Slater autograph is "fools gold". He likely will never be in the NFL HOF. His big appeal is really only to Iowa collectors.
This book sold for $20 on ebay a couple months back, so this guy got a steal. However there have been a few guys on this forum who found Slater autographs on ebay for under $300 recently too. Now granted, these auctions were poorly listed. But you begin to wonder if we (along with die hard Iowa collectors) are over inflating his value.....
One of the greatest football players of the first 50 years of American football was Frank Hinkey. Hinkey was a four-time All American end for Yale from 1891-94. While only 5'9" and 150 lbs (with a lung condition), he was the most feared football player of his day. Look up any pre-1950 All-Time College football team and almost all of them will contain Hinkey. Hinkey coached Yale from 1914-15, but his philosophy was ahead of the times. He tried to install a lateral-pass attack offense, which his contemporaries hated. Frank died alone in a TB sanatorium in 1925. He is an inaugural member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Recently I acquired a beautiful signed note.
Puppe, he announced a pick for Atlanta in the draft, im guessing he just isn't a huge fan of the autograph circuit. Hes signed ttm for years and i'm sure somebody will get him soon
<< <i>I heard via "Blood Bank" Bill Heinen that Strahan will not be participating in the HOF Class signing. >>
Wow, I don't understand that at all. Even when Elway and Marino went in they signed they just jacked up the price. In the past John Madden didn't sign, Darrell Green figured he could make more money selling his crap at the ribs fest so he blew off the class and then Dion Sanders stiffed the hall at the last minute but they took everyone's stuff and had someone from the hall fly to his location and had everything signed. I can't think of any others who blew it off. Unless you want to say Swann. He would only sign HOF mini's or full size helmets or the crappy shirts he sold to the hall. On top of that he personalized everything.
<< <i>I could understand when future players inducted like Tom Brady wont and will sign seperately but Strahan? really? >>
Back in the day Strahan hated doing signings, but the publication I shot for got him to agree to sign 100 mini helmets for us and we then donated $2500 to the North Shore Animal League on Long Island. His agent reminded me how lucky we were since he usually turned down these requests. From a personal observation, he always seemed to sign for kids at the stadium. Humphrey did a signing the last time he was a senior nominee. What's with Walter Jones? He did a signing with Mill Creek and that's been it.
Class signings at the Hall started in 1999. The First Inductee to blow off the Class signing..... In 2000 was Dan Rooney. Jane contacted Claude right after his election. he said he would do her show, but that he wouldn't be doing any shows until AFTER his Induction to the Hall. I think she is planning on having him very soon after.

Better than the last couple of times I tried to do it
PS - Cesar - I'm glad you were able to secure what you were after from the SF Show - I ended up not being able to go. Very Disappointed, but its cool you got hooked up ! Working on those tickets

Thanks for letting me share.
Cheers
