Don't know how many boxes bbcex had but they are all gone. Crap. How many boxes did you buy Al? If you get a submittable Youngblood, Fitzgerald, or Dk Murray let me know and I'll make it worth your while..........

Those friggin' Diamond Kings are killers, aren't they?

I had many, many commons (about 125K) of all sorts and a few years ago I went ahead and donated them to the Salvation Army. Some kids (I'm hoping) definitely had some fun going through those things!

I purchased one box of the cards. I think the word must have spread fast and the price didn't seem to high to me.......and as far as the PSA 5 Clancy I got, it will join the PSA 2 Eckersley I have...sort of a Al must have been drunk when picking the cards for his submission HOF!!

Hi Arny....not sure what I did wrong on the Clancy card, I've been checking the cards out pretty close but for some reason the DK's are giving me problems....and the one's I just posted the grades for were right from a factory set.....the one's that were 8's I can understand, I still haven't gotten the knack on the centering for the DK's yet...but I really messed up on the Clancy....I'll have to scrutinize the card when it arrives.......at least I was happy with the basketball grades I received....I needed an Erving for my set and it worked out great....can't beat an 8!!

  • Just curious, has the SMR article on this set resulted in an increase in interest in the cards?

It is a beautiful set, there's no question.
  • just a plug here..I have a few 9's and a couole of 10's laying around if anyone from the board needs them..lmk...

    PSA 9's:
    19 Steele (flip say Steel)
    33
    79
    100
    153
    155
    158
    254
    259
    286
    294
    312
    459
    601
    615

    and these 10's:

    305
    340
    459

I also just sent in another 45 1984 Donruss cards...they were received 2/4/06....I'll keep in in touch with the results...just a note..there were about 50% from factory sets that were short cuts..so I'll either add fuel to that fire if they come back minsizQ....or do the happy dance if they come back 9's and 10's.

    Writer11,
I'm noticing increased demand (read $$$) for some singles, factory sets, and unopened wax. The article probably had something to do with it.
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
Bruce, keep us posted about those additional 45.

Unfortunately, I already have all of those that you have listed. image

Anyone with any 'finds' or any new grades popping for our set?

Writer, there is definitely some renewed interest in the set since the article in the SMR. For instance, I had a couple of cards that I listed last night that sold within an hour of me putting them on eBay. So, you can definitely say that business has picked up with the '84 Donruss set!

I'm going after the Boggs psa 10 on ebay
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
Just took the snipe off of the Boggs.... image

That was the only card currently on eBay that I could use for my set as an upgrade or addition. But, I'll give it up to Bill. image

I'll also yield to rvc on the Steve Yeager 10 that Bruce got on his submission.

    But, I need a total of 5 cards from 5Stat.....172, 217, 337, 441 & 447. Can we make a deal Bruce?

If anyone needs a psa 9 1984 Donruss Gossage, I have one available. You can make a $ offer or trade me a psa 9 or psa 10 Dodger from the 70s up through 82 that I need.

Sorry I cannot help more but this is all I have!

I just have to say to everyone its been fun reading this thread and I am enjoying collecting this set. You guys have made me get "bit" by the 84 donruss bug. Hopefully soon, if my car cooperates and I dont have to pump any more money in it to make repairs I will be buying more of these cardboard plastic encased goodies. Hopefully before the word really gets out there about this set.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Say it aint so!!! Say it aint so!

Are the 84 Donruss mentors taking offers??

What would we do without you guys around!

Here's hoping you get the price you want. Who could blame you for selling. I have learned alot from everyone here but I understand the fact that if someone is going to wave 6 grand around you have to take it!!

    Good luck

I doubt that Ray will get that price, but you never know!

I know that I would definitely entertain offers for something in that range for my nearly completed set, but again....you never know.

This set has that classic beautiful design and the crisp pictures with great action shots. It's the best of the '80s and that's gotta be worth somethin' to someone, right? image

Well, I sent in another batch of 25 cards today. Wanted to get them in while the $5 special is still going on. Don't know if I will be able to send any more in this month. Hope they offer this again......Hey anyone see the Cavs beat San Antonio last night????? I took my son Saturday and saw them lose to Golden State and then they turn around and beat the SPURS....go figure!!

I have a factory set on the way and may include some of those (hopefully if worthy) on my next submission. Included will be an Ashby that should 9, so that leaves me with 2 needed for the basic.
  • Upgraded my Molitor to a 10 this week courtesy of 5Stat. Thanks.

    Arny,
Whad'ya say we revisit the set weighting issue. You should have all the data from our original machinations over it.
I would say that due to the sets popularity, now is a great time to get Joe O. to consider our changes.

  • I was just looking through some of my Donruss and came accross a Staub Diamond King PSA 10. I saw in the number one set there was one listed as a 1 pop. I wonder how bad the pop report is. I also have the #5 card in PSA 10 and it is also showing as a 1 pop. Ok I tried to add the scan and it didn't work. Either way I have a PSA 10 #6 and so does the top guy and its listed as a 1 pop

It could be that you have one of the variations the other guy has the other.( Steel vs. Steele on the reverse).

what's going on with the posting pages? Arny's last post should have started a new one, but I'm still only getting the page before. I added jibberish to see if I could force the page to turn - no luck. This is not the first time this has happened.

    '84 Donruss Brothers,

I've received word back that our proposal for re-weighting our set has been considered and will be done. I've received back another proposal based on price guide values (although not sure which price guide based on some of those prices) and I'm sending them back a revision to their proposal.

Looks like soon enough we will finally have our set weighted properly! image

    Arny,
That's great news! I can't remember what we finally decided on weights however. I'm glad to see psa's engagement in things like this. Good work Arny and all involved!

About the Mattingly PSA 10: Thanks for the kudos but I don't think the final resting place will be with me. Although it's a very nice card, Frankhardy's recently sold one is the better of the two. This is one card that will hit the 'bay' again at some point - with no BIN. I'll bet I have SMR to thank for the BIN price. image

My goal is to find a PERFECTLY centered Mattingly (that isn't already a 10). I've been looking for a long time and between a raw one at home and this one,

I'm hoping I can pull at 10 with either. If not, I'll be content with the resulting 9 - maybe. image
