    Robert,
bbcardbuyer is a seller's best friend and a bidder's nightmare. Of all the 84D buyers (although he tends to limit his buys to the more popular cards) over the last 3 years, he has the deepest pockets IMO..............

bbcardbuyer shows up here and there. Never consistently bidding on things, but does seem to have those deep pockets that Bill mentioned.

    Al,
That's a very impressive submission. You've got to be please with Straw, Ripken, etc., but I feel your biggest victory is in the 5 cards above. The mid 500 range (and you've hit the sweet spot) is one of the toughest short runs to find quality raw in.

Its amazing to me what you've done in a short time on some of the tougher commons. It goes without saying that one man's tough cards might be another's 'walk in the park'; however, the pop's seldom lie - if it's a low pop at this point, there's a good reason why..........

    Great job Al!

Those 5 cards are toughies for sure! Are any of them doubles for you? I've already got the Tug McGraw (Thanks to Bill's generosity!) and Kiko Garcia. But, the other three are definitely ones I could use! image

Maybe a little one of those multiple card trades for you? image

  • I just opened 3 boxes of 84 donruss and i was only intrested in the Mattinglys (got one real nice) I have only sent in good cards to get graded, never really thought about sending in ok cards that might grade high. I have a bunch of common not so common players that may grade high. I am not really sure if they would grade 9/10 I have a stack of 50 or 60 that look dead on to the 2 pics I have attached. Should I send some in. The Darling is one of them but it is without a # should I not send that one in??

Bill's been my mentor on this set and would defer to his knowledge but if the Darling card is as good as the two you scanned, I'd send it in and get it graded....I would definitely be interested if it comes back high grade.......like RVC noted, can you post a scan.....there are a lot of folks out there that can give you some advice...It's got to be better looking then the one I have

  • My PM is now turned on. I will try to get the scans of the 2 darlings up tonight, and like I said earlier they dont have a number on them.

    sorry Arny,
I wasn't about to let bumbry go without being noticed so I set a small snipe.........I'm glad you got it however!
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
I had my own small snipe on it too.

Guys, if there are any cards that you need to complete your sets, why don't we try and make a pact to help each other out and not bid on each other's cards. For instance, if a Joel Youngblood, Alan Ashby or Mike Fitzgerald in PSA 9 or better comes available, why not let Bill get at least one of them to get closer to completing his set. Then, we can work to help each other and not cost each other money. We can do something like ...if Bill gets Youngblood, then I get Ashby and RVC gets a 10 Fitzgerald. You know, something like that. Thoughts?

    Hey Guys,

I am not in your league in terms of buying these cards but I know If I saw one of you bidding on something there would be no way I would bid and driveup the price. The problem is that I dont know ebay id's for everyone. Maybe we should post these id's so we dont step on toes.......Post them only if you are comfortable doing so of course. I am mchenrycards!!
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • Ok well the 2 darlings look good on the front but the backs are off. Take alook at these scans and see if you see any 9/10's in the group.

    daneyb,

its hard to tell from the scans if there's any minute blemishes, touched corners, etc. but based on these scans only, you're looking at solid 9's, if not 10's. You've got the centering down - all that remains is how well the corners, etc. are judged.

  • rvcrvc Posts: 559 ✭✭
    dan i agree with bill

arny you are on to something.
    Bob
  • BugOnTheRugBugOnTheRug Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭
To reply to Arny's post, I think the best thing to do is either post a message on the boards here or pm those who might also be interested in a particular card.

With this Bumbry 9, if I knew Arny or someone else on these boards wanted it, I would have left it alone, but there were no bids with less than 10 minutes to go, so I small-sniped it.

Please note that I will put bids on cards I deem difficult and/or are priced extremely reasonable even if I already have them; the former to 'keep' within the registry set guys (these cards eventually filter back in), the latter for possible updating to what I already may have (and I've done that quite a bit).

Let's hear what the rest of you guys think...........

    Bill

Is this BGS 9.5 Mattingly going to hurt my PSA 10 on Ebay. Here are the links?

The BGS has been on Ebay less than one day and it has already surpassed my PSA.

    My PSA 10 Mattingly

    BGS 9.5 Mattingly

    Any opinions?

  • BugOnTheRugBugOnTheRug Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭
    Al,
congrats on the cards and the nice scans..............I really like the Straw and Ripken.

    Frank,
I don't know the effect of the BGS Mattingly on your card, but you gotta feel good about $850 for yours. In my view, a Mattingly identical to yours could very well be a 9 on a different day, and that 9 would sell for +/- $60 or so. I've never submitted to BGS but some of the 9.5's I've seen had less than what I'd call 9.5 centering - in fact, I witness one 9.5 with 10 centering that was worse then a BGS 9 Sandberg I recently purchased. Go figure...................

Yes, I am pleased with $850. The previous two on Ebay sold for $710 and $799 respectively. The high bidder has a feedback of 11, but it is 100%.

Being originally from western PA, I'm rooting for "one for the thumb!" image
  • BugOnTheRugBugOnTheRug Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭
They got the one for the thumb, but it wasn't the prettiest of victories. Seattle did a nice job and was certainly a worth opponent, but caught some unlucky breaks.

Special congrats to The Bus, Cowher, and the Rooney family (by far the best ownership group in football, if not most professional sports).

  • Yeah BOTR I was happy with the Super bowl outcome, but I also live only 4 hours away from Pittsburg. image
Sorry not to change the subject, but look at this BGS 84 Carew. I'm ok with all the subs except the centering?
If I crossed this over to PSA do you think it’s a 9? Anyone opinion would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

your best bet is to just bust it out of the BGS holder and submit raw................

Have you guys noticed the prices factory sets are bringing recently - $150-$200+ are you kidding me?@!?!?!?

It wasn't that long ago I was paying anywhere from $80-95 (some even included shipping at that price). I guess this is what you pay for the newly found 1984D 'visibility' in the marketplace. Oh well, I'll just have to be more patient I guess image
