I am desperately seeking PSA 7 or 8's of Card #1 John Ball and #23 Len Holland from the 1927 Churchman Small set. IF you have either and are willing to part with them, I will pay 125% of SMR.

    Let me know!

    Thanks!

I know I have pimped them before, but check out www.greenjacketauctions.com

I have consigned a couple of the golf cards, including the graded Jones, Sarazen and Hagen, as well as the Lot of 1920-30's with sweester gourlay and cotton. The Old Tom Morris is pretty nice.....likely a bid coming from Golfcollector on that one!

Dave, that's a great looking postcard of Old Tom Morris. Any idea what recent sale of his autographs have gone for???
  • GolfcollectorGolfcollector Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭
Problem is there ARE NO recent sales of his autographs....

I gotta believe the reserve is in the 4-5K neighborhood...I have never seen an auto from him ever...but I mainly collect cards, not autographs....

Still, that is one coolooomundo card (fonzie reference)

In an attempt to put a little focus in my collection - I will look to be a 'player collector' of:
Bobby Jones, Harry Vardon, Ted Ray, and Walter Hagan.

If you have any of their cards available - please shoot me an email

I currently have a 1928 Walter Hagen Men of the Moment in sport PSA 7 for sale.

I also acquired BOTH 1927 Churchman Famous Golfers Small Old Tom Morris cards that are currently graded PSA 9.

I am willing to part with one of them for what I have into it, as I have a chance to use those funds to pick up some additional raw vintage golf.

Please drop me a note if interested.

    Tom Morris PSA 9

Tonight I get an email from the buyer saying he can't pay.

    SHOCKER..

Maybe the last feedback from 2004 was my first clue....

Sorry to vent but I have never gotten scorched on a deal for something this expensive before.

  • Great thread guys! Just curious, which vintage (pre-1970s) golf card would you consider to be the parallel to the 52T Mantle or T206 Wagner on the baseball side? 33G Jones? 32 Caramel Jones?

Does anyone have any information on any recent sales of the
    1971 Barratt Jack Nicklaus PSA 9 ?
I have not seen any for sale in a long time!
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
  • GolfcollectorGolfcollector Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭
To compare these to baseball cards is a bit difficult as there are limited issues.

In terms of most expensive....Bobby Jones card OBVIOUSLY take the cake. The most expensive ones normally are those that have cross over appeal to other collectors. the American Caramel and Sport Kings issues come to mind.

These two, however, are nowhere close to his toughest cards to locate. The Kraj Zigeretten or the Abdulla would win that award.

Walter Hagen cards are also finding a nice following, he is in a variety of issues, even more so than Jones.

Old tom Morris cards are likely underated. Especially his early issues such as the 1900 Copes, 1901 and 02 Ogdens and especially the FJ smith from 1902.

FJ Smith golf cards along with the Spalding Champions golfers are tremendously undervalued in my opinion.

    Greg,

The 71 Barrat is notorious for centering issues. This is what keeps most from acheiving the PSA 9 grade.

That is likely why you have not seeon one for quite some time. I have an 8 in my collection but would love to get a 9 someday!

If anyone can help me out on getting the last card needed for my 1927 Churchman set in all PSA 7:
    #45 Vardon

    I'd greatly appreciate it.

I have the hard ones, the two with a current population of 1 and the John Ball #1. Really surprised this is the card that is keeping me from completing the set, but it is. If anyone knows how I can get my hands on one, please let me know.

Just wanted to drop the folks here a note.

I have been offered a significant amount of money for what would amount to the vast majority of my golf card collection. I am very close to finalizing a deal with a potential buyer.

If this goes through, I will have a limited amount of graded PSA cards available for sale.

I will also have a complete run of all upper deck sets, (regular, sp authentic, sp game used etc minus the tiger /900 RC for sale as well)

I will keep you posted and will likely turn from collector of golf cards to one who looks to bring more great material into the market for other collectors.

    Happy collecting!

  • Gentlemen,

By way of introduction my name is Bobby Binder and I am with www.vintagecardprices.com we track the values of all graded sports cards. Lately I have been working on including and tracking golf cards for the site. Check it out for yourself it has become a very useful tool for collectors in the other sports areas.

Any recommendations from you would be great or any sets list for ones that I am missing would be even better, as well as images. I am trying to make this section as complete as possible.

    Thanks for the help,

    Bobby
