Hey Mike, Naw, I'm too old and lazy to start sets. I do like the 1948 Swell. It's a blue-collar, poorly printed set designed for the postwar inner city welfare kids (like me) to flip, handle and trade. Awaiting delivery on this;
And something that will make you look in the SCD to find out were the nearest card show is and who is signing! You have to love the quality of Griffey's auto and how it has changed very little over the years .
<< <i> Hi Ken Are you doing the set? We have a few TVen collectors on the board.
If so, are there any cards in the set that are harder to find?
thanx for sharing I know it's a condition sensitive set, for one due to handling - so that's actually a nice card. mike >>
Hey Mike,
Not doing the Venezuela set so I don't know much about it except that they are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. This particular card now resides in my Master Clemente Set.
Thanks for the compliments, I'm pretty happy with it!

fdny,
Is there a Washington Senator in that '48 Swell set?? If so, that'll be the next card I chase. Neat set!
<< <i>Hoof, we could always begin the official Minnesota thread!

Yeah! And we could call it the 'Hook'n'Hoof show!
I've got so much MN-related stuff it'd take a long ol' thread to show it all! I'd enjoy seeing your MN treasures, too. I know there are a couple other members here (Deyo21, sagard, envoy, et al) that have some fantastic collectibles. I'm sure we've just seen the tip of the iceberg in this "Mail Call!" thread (thanks again Mike for starting it!)...
<< <i>Advice, Brian: Buy the Gehrig BEFORE your wedding! >>
LOL, normally that would be very sound advice, but since my future brides father has spent more on cards than I could ever imagine doing I think I can get away with it. The only reason she puts up with my collecting so well is because she spent her childhood being dragged to shows and watching her father drop serious coin on cards.

I'll work my way down the list of new stuff.
First, fd
The Gehrig looks great! Another card I don't own - I'm living thru you guys!
Well, this didn't come in the mail - I had to drive over to a local auction and pick it up myself. This was near the back of a book full of worthless cards. Got the book for $7.50. Oh, and it also had 5 of the 1964 Auravision record cards (Whitey Ford, Frank Robinson, Al Kaline, and 2 Jim Gentile).
I am really glad to add this to my Ryan collection.
The guy on the far right of the german soccer card looks ummm "hitler-esque". Anyone see the resembleance besides me?

rd! Yes! I remember when my Mom bought a sheet of these each week, I believe at the (Red Owl?) grocery store, in the late '60s(??). I must have the album, with the stamps cut and glued in, someplace here...
In trade, I would like a Nathans hot dog, fries and cold Bud! >>
Holy crapola! Those cards are TOO nice for my collection! Any one of those would make the rest of my vintage stuff look like, well, "stuff". You'd deserve a life-time supply of Nathans hot dogs, fries and Buds!
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
<< <i>wooooo nice mays! My incoming one is OC, worse corners, and has a spot of paper loss on the back.... oh well, it's a 55 mays! John >>
Thanks. Surprisingly, it was only $230 and I was expecting it to go for more
I don't know what I'm going to do about the Clemente... Since it's going to be the "center piece", there's no way I'm taking a chance on it being raw. So I have to nut up and spend the cash for a PSA, SGC, or PRO (kidding). AND want to have at least decent centering, which as you know is extremely difficult. Just for a 4 without qualifiers, looking at a minimum of $450 up to $540. Hard to find a decent 3 and for the most part, they are pretty beat up.
It's tough to find decent centering and corners on the 55s without paying an arm and a leg. Can't wait to put this sucker behind me but what a great (and expensive) experience.
Good luck on your set! It's soooooo worth it

That's a nice Mays card! Are you gonna send it to PSA?
thanx for sharing mike >>
Once I complete the set and they have a 50s special, I'll send in the higher priced raws and a couple of crossovers. I don't believe any of them are altered but there's always that possibility when purchasing raw.
Knowing my luck, some will come back trimmed and the adventure will continue

Its been a while since I posted any cards to this thread. I havent been buying at all but I did buy two cards this past week. Here is one them. IMO the 1994 Upper Deck regular issue is tougher then the sp's. This is a pop of 1 psa10.
Hey Stown (what is your name by the way? ) here is the Clemente I have. I know it is raw, which is a gamble, but I picked it up in person from a partial '55 set that came into the card shop I used to work in a few months back:
I was thrilled to pick up a decently centered copy for $240+tax. It has a light crease on the back but the front is clean. I figure it's a 2 or 3 which I can live with.
Anyway, on to why I am posting, here is my 'mail call' for today:
I better stop trading with Fred "baseballfan" or I might actually finish this set!
I just won this for $5.51 including shipping! I couldn't have had it graded for that little. I know it's low grade but it is still a 55 year old card of good White Sox player for just a few dollars.

Great Gehrig !!!
That card is at the very top of my want list. I will have to wait until after my wedding next year to pick one up.
Do you plan on having it graded ? Would you mind sharing how much it set you back >?

I'm sorry - I just made a mistake - I don't have a dupe of the Yost - I had dupes of the Eddie Joost - but I do have dupes of:
Gil Coan, Irv Noren and Sam Mele from the Senators.
If you need these - I'll get them out to you.
